Even when searching for capable individuals among the survivors who had been transferred with them, the significant shortage of manpower and talent still caused the [Juncheng] couple, who were in charge of coordination, to frown deeply.
"If things continue like this, it's hard to say whether we can hold out for these three days."
[Juncheng] led the way for me while muttering to himself, "The damage caused by the first wave of defense was too great. Although the process of resisting went relatively smoothly, quite a few people were injured due to their lack of experience."
"Indeed, the area we occupy now is large enough and secure enough, but our total numbers are still too small, and most of the capable and courageous young men are injured. The few bottles of [Liquid Life] we have left have been handed over to the [Myrrh] physician, but even if only a little is distributed to each seriously injured patient, there are still a number of lightly injured patients who can only be treated with basic medical skills. This has greatly slowed down the recovery speed of our manpower."
"It's a good thing that the library has a large enough Western restaurant. Before the source of resources is cut off or polluted, we will have enough water and gas. In addition, the meat we get from hunting, even if it's not very tasty, will be enough to feed everyone for a while. What we should worry about is the fruits and vegetables. The reserves of these are really not much. We must plan ahead for the long term and prepare fruits and vegetables, especially vegetables, on the high platform on the fifth floor."
“You’re very good at this,” I complimented.
The man in the suit nodded slightly, a smile unconsciously appearing on his lips: "Yes, because my job is to coordinate the allocation of all kinds of materials for a company and make reasonable arrangements. I'm sure that among everyone here now, there's almost no one who can do these things better than me."
"Thank you. Have you checked all the loot collected?"
[Juncheng] pushed up his glasses, paused for a moment, and quickly gave his answer: "Those... wolfhound-like creatures, when we were collecting their corpses, in addition to the arrows and ammunition we had fired earlier, we also got thirty-three leather coats, twelve pairs of knee pads, twelve pairs of arm guards, sixty-five claws, twenty-four pairs of fangs, a cloak, and some scattered tattered furs."
"I'm sorry, I don't know where they came from either. They're currently stored in the study, which has been converted into a warehouse, awaiting the decisions of the two leaders."
I do have a general idea of where it came from.
If Sheng heard this now, he would probably mutter something like "[Monster drop]".
Unfortunately, that guy fell into a state of near-sleep shortly after the battle began.
"I'll take a look in a bit. Thanks for your hard work, you can go ahead and get back to work."
I sincerely thanked him, and following [Juncheng]'s directions, I stopped in front of a door covered with vines. I watched him walk away quickly again before refocusing my attention on the door in front of me.
A rich, vibrant energy shone brightly in my senses, rushing towards me from behind the door as if it could not be blocked by the walls.
That was a much denser life force than the average concentration of [liquid life]. If it weren't for its unusually rapid dissipation, and the multiple illusory tendrils that sprouted around it to prevent others from getting close, I would have almost wanted to collect it or arrange for the injured to rest nearby to speed up their recovery.
Before being told by Sheng, I had never heard of any rumors about the golden apple, and therefore had no idea about its specific effects.
After acquiring it, I briefly inspected it during my handling of the case, and all I received was a simple, ordinary statement: "This is a rare golden apple," nothing more.
"Don't be fooled by its mere shimmer; this is a precious offering from ancient mythology, reserved only for the most beautiful goddess in the world."
In response to my perplexing question, Sheng made the above statement. Then, he found some pure white wine and honey in the kitchen of the Western restaurant, and took a large pot from the stove. He then hugged the golden apple and the branches of the golden tree and went into the emptied room.
Then, no one knows what he did, but the room in front of him was covered by layers of illusory green plants growing out of it, falling into a silent yet noisy fluctuation of life.
Drinking a specially prepared elixir of life in a quiet and safe place—supposedly a necessary condition for changing one's class to become an elf—sounds a bit far-fetched.
Of course, it's more likely that I've been annoyed by the constant stream of potions and pastes. Whether it's my mentor or Annie, I never had a good experience after drinking them. Anyway, it's best to keep these things far away from me... unless they are alchemical potions that I've personally concocted or classic products that I have legitimate purchasing channels for.
Of course, the reason I'm here now isn't just to stand here like an idiot. It's just that the time I agreed with Sheng is almost up, so I came to check it out before logging off.
But... to be honest, this guy is pretty slow.
Leaning against the wall on the other side, I casually sat down and, with some curiosity, gently touched the illusory vines that had drifted closer.
As the clock beside me approached the agreed-upon 12:30, the meshing gears raised the hammer to strike the hour with a crisp mechanical movement. Apart from the vines that wrapped around it slightly receding, the door in front of me remained almost unchanged. I didn't know whether it had succeeded or if something went wrong in the middle, leading to failure.
In my perception, there is still a strong life force emanating from the room ahead. However, compared to the previous more inward-circulating cocoon-like state, it now seems to be rippling outward from the very center, showing an unstable posture.
