Chapter 159 The Prophet

Chapter 159 The Prophet

I watched silently as the prophet wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, and after a long while, I spoke awkwardly, "I don't understand why you place such high hopes on me."

If we're talking about the other party's identity as a prophetic mage, the only possibility might be that I'm my mentor's only disciple. But even so, I'm just a student who hasn't graduated yet, not to mention that I'm still struggling with how to complete my graduation project and handle some miscellaneous matters.

"The reason I'm telling you these things has nothing to do with whether I have high hopes for you."

The prophet remained unmoved: "All I do is convey what I see of the future."

"—【The star of destiny will guide the way, and the dawn will eventually break】."

He paused for a few seconds, silently and steadily wiping away the fresh blood that had just trickled from the corner of his mouth, and then added: "As for what each image in this prophecy actually refers to, that's something we don't know either."

"The only thing I can do is to pass it on to you, who are strongly correlated with the prophecy, and then leave to follow the footsteps of fate and seek more clues and solutions."

The once-empty café fell silent once more.

Just then, Sheng, who had hurriedly left earlier, approached us carrying a tray with a teapot and brand-new teacups, muttering to himself, "I'm here, I'm here! Have you been waiting long? I don't know if you'll like this taste, but these are all the Tieguanyin teas we have left..."

He placed the teacups on the tray in front of us one by one, and poured in what seemed to be freshly boiled water. Sheng, who had looked up again, seemed to finally realize the somber atmosphere and looked us over repeatedly.

"...Yes, has something bad happened?"

The boy's expression at this moment clearly showed confusion and hesitation, like a child who was afraid of doing something wrong and being scolded by an adult. He didn't dare to sit down and just stood there anxiously to the side, his hands hanging down with his fingers unconsciously twisted together, his neck hunched, carefully and cautiously peering into our eyes.

"No, I just had a friendly and cordial conversation with this prophet."

I replaced my stiff face with a gentle smile, thanked Sheng for the tea, and pretended to be happy. After picking it up, I didn't drink it directly, but instead held it in front of me and gently smelled it.

A refreshing aroma of tea wafts from the nose, carrying a slightly warm and humid scent.

The prophet sitting opposite him remained silent for a while before finally declining the tea offered: "I have already conveyed the main points I needed to make regarding my visit here. It's getting late, and I need to get back as soon as possible, so I won't linger any longer."

He politely stood up, stopping Sheng from trying to persuade him to stay: "No need, I have things to do. There may be opportunities to see each other again in the future, but probably not." As he spoke, he turned to look at the petite Sheng, "Remember, those who try to understand fate must neither disrespect it nor blindly believe in it."

"Of course, even if some bad things do happen along the way, in the long run, your final destination will surely be filled with flowers and joy."

A light and airy breeze surrounded him.

Ending with this signature phrase, the prophet bowed slightly to us and, before we could stop him, strode quickly toward the door, disappearing into the deep darkness a few breaths later.

"That's really a classic line..."

He removed his right hand from his forehead, looking somewhat speechless. In the end, he could only hold the tray upright in front of his lower abdomen and casually remark, trying to make conversation, "He really walks fast."

"This is how the speed spell works."

I pondered the words I had just heard and gave a half-hearted reply.

"Big brother, big brother, Uriel." Dan Sheng leaned closer, oblivious to everything, and casually draped his hand over my shoulder. "Did the prophet say anything to you just now? Like, what kind of information it is about the final opponent we'll be facing later?"

I raised an eyebrow: "Would the game provide players with similar information so early on?"

Sheng shook his head, then nodded lightly: "Well, it's not really that early. After all, by the time the Prophet appears in the game, we've already passed about a third of the way through, so you could say the story has been initially unfolded. At this point, directly spoiling the ending seems to be an acceptable act in their eyes, and the punishment is usually very low."

"At first, I didn't realize this. I was wondering what was the point of having to have a long conversation with someone I could only interact with, but who offered no additional benefits other than dialogue and who might not even spawn. It wasn't until later that I realized it was actually important information pointing to the last task before clearing the game."

"After being taken advantage of twice, I learned to specifically seek them out and remember their information."

"Is the final boss different every time?" I asked again.

"Well, you can't say they're completely different, can you?"

Sheng sat down on a chair to the side, staring at the high ceiling beams with his eyes wide open: "After all, this game does follow certain rules overall."

As Sheng spoke, he counted on his fingers: "First, you have to circle around the Four Heavenly Kings' cars one by one, then remove the key mechanisms and ground locks, and after completing the final liberation, climb the holy mountain in the game to meet the final enemy... This is already the ninety-ninth mission."

"Even if there are many different dungeons and random traps in between, the overall process remains the same. The only things that will change are the order in which the missions are triggered and the combination of enemies."
