Chapter 198 Choice
This battle is clearly unavoidable.
Almost instantly, a massive flow of magical energy was artificially gathered, colliding violently in the middle of the confrontation area and stirring up a raging storm.
However, what happened next was beyond Sheng's and my expectations.
The figures in black robes unanimously unleashed their ominous magic, pouring it all into the massive mass of magic summoned by the withered ghost, causing it to expand rapidly like an inflating balloon, unleashing a gust of wind from all directions.
Just like a massive object suddenly crashing down on your feet, causing a noticeable tremor and leaving a dent, the convergence of a large amount of magic attracted almost all the free magic within a hundred miles. Even Sheng and I had to barely keep our balance to avoid being attracted and falling into it.
What exactly happened?
This is the first question that pops into my head.
Just when it seemed the two sides were about to clash, what did the other side do?
No matter how complicated our thoughts are at this moment, there is definitely something we need to do.
Since we've already fallen out, all we need to do now is destroy whatever the other side wants to do.
Driven by this thought, Sheng and I reached out our hands simultaneously, allowing our attacks to land evenly on the black-robed figures and the ever-growing energy spheres.
This approach has indeed been very effective.
With Sheng and I attacking from both above and below, the black-robed figures who had been standing still collapsed like toppled stalks of wheat. The sphere that was rapidly gathering magic power also paused for a moment and showed clear signs of trembling. It was obvious that after cutting off most of the magic power supply, it was much more difficult to stabilize the sphere itself and prevent it from collapsing than to absorb more magic power.
"It's useless! No matter how much you struggle or resist, everything you do is nothing more than a pebble trying to stop a wheel!"
As if it had taken root in the ground, its strange voice shouted wildly, and even as several sharp vines pierced through the middle of its body and shook it repeatedly, it did not show the slightest sign of wavering.
I tried carbonizing his vocal cords with a laser gun, which did stop his raving for a few seconds.
But then, that strange, hoarse, and crazy voice rang out again, even clearer than before!
Is someone capable of such behavior truly still alive, still considered human?
Admittedly, if those mages who are nearing the end of their lives and have transformed into liches are indeed able to perform the same actions as their physical counterparts after shedding their physical bodies.
But the way those empty, white bones moved was less like a human and more like the remains of a former human. The still spirits burned slowly like silent flames, and even if they were disguised with human-like skin and flesh, or if fuel was added, they would quickly decay.
The shrinking scene before me sent chills down my spine.
The instincts of fear and aggression arose almost simultaneously, causing me to subconsciously chant incantations and unleash a more intense spell.
The dazzling lightning flashed by, bursting forth with a blinding brilliance and leaving a crimson mark at its point of impact. Those marked and struck instantly burst into flames from within, transforming into quietly burning torches.
It was an extremely hot flame. The scorching fire, when it came into contact with the rain that suddenly fell from mid-air, generated a large amount of grayish-white mist.
That kind of rain was unusual.
I quickly noticed this and immediately frowned as I watched the white mist rapidly spreading outwards from my feet.
The thick white fog remained unmoved, and even the strong winds did not dissipate it in the slightest. Instead, the rain quietly penetrated the burning flames, silently extinguishing them and giving the blackened surfaces, which revealed charred flesh, an unusual grayish-white hue.
Sheng, standing behind me, gasped softly and abruptly pulled back countless tendrils that had sprouted from the ground.
The once vibrant green vines were now covered with scattered grayish-white spots, which continued to spread to both sides, gradually becoming withered and shrunken. After losing their support, they drooped down from the center, looking like they were on the verge of death.
"There's something wrong with those raindrops."
Sheng frowned, no longer in a hurry to attack, but decisively cut off the withered vines, and let the new branches weave a net with the help of the dead branches, which sheltered us from the rain.
He raised one hand again, summoning a ball of emerald green light, which he placed on both of us, quickly replenishing our depleted state and stopping the accumulation of injuries.
This operation was indeed very well done.
For an ordinary person who has only been exposed to magic for a month, this is the most reasonable solution based on excellent judgment and decisive choice.
However, it is quite clear that the existence we are opposing is not something that can be countered by such a simple and crude approach.
Perhaps that withered ghost is an even more troublesome and cunning adversary than the hidden bosses of the main story levels we've dealt with so effectively.
As if seizing this moment, the ghostly, withered figure frantically raised its hands and looked up at the gradually rising, enormous gray sphere.
His face was finally fully exposed to the air, his already protruding pupils wide open in a fierce rage, and the skin at the corners of his cracked mouth showed clear signs of peeling and cracking, while countless grayish-white flakes of skin continued to fall from his thin limbs.
I tried to influence the rising sphere with the spell I had conjured, but the magic I threw either lost its power in the raging wind, was torn apart and merged into it, or it deflected and flew off into the distance, out of my control.
