Chapter 197 Threat

Sheng was clearly thinking of what I had told him before: "They never made such a request, and you can't make decisions for them on your own."

"That's because you've never seen them kneeling down and begging me to take them away, so you can say such easy, sarcastic things."

"You cannot give them peace of mind and body. Rather than let them suffer in this world that will eventually perish, it would be better to let them leave early and embrace the inevitable death."

"Or perhaps, you're just seeking self-gratification?"

I truly did not know.

The last time, Sheng and I led a few people to explore the hidden city. When we returned, we were shocked to find that countless survivors were missing. Not long ago, we discovered the existence of those people in that evil sacrificial site.

Sheng seemed to want to say something, opening his mouth several times, but ultimately couldn't utter a word.

A withered hand reached out to us, beckoning gently; beneath the loose skin, the knuckles were clearly visible.

Against the backdrop of surrounding shadows, it looked like a ghostly claw reaching out from the depths of an ominous place, chilling and terrifying.

"I urge you to hand over the beacon that leads to disaster. With just a little thought, you should know who I'm talking about."

He smiled sinisterly, revealing a gaunt, aged face with prominent cheekbones beneath his black robe billowing in the wind: "Of course, if you can't tell the difference, we have our own ways of doing so."

An ominous and chaotic magical energy condensed and rose from his hand, extending from which a wisp of ethereal gray smoke pointed towards the library.

"Of course, and you too. You must come with us."

He pointed at me again, his mouth stretching out in an exaggerated grin, almost touching his ears.

If [Sylphyr] were really like us, asking us for something could at least be excused as "just for the mission," but what does that have to do with me?

Furthermore, since he is clearly the embodiment of wind, and the mission description states that wind is one of the four pillars, why does he say that it is a "beacon leading to disaster"?

Without hesitation, Sheng shouted, "Who do you think you are? Do you think we have to listen to whatever you say?"

“…Little girl, I’m just giving you face so you can leave safely. Don’t push your luck.”

What if we say no?

"Then the negotiations have broken down, and we will have no choice but to resort to abnormal means that neither of us wants to see."

They seemed to have planned this all along; almost the instant they finished speaking, the men in black robes raised their hands in unison, releasing immense magical power.

It was only then that I realized with astonishment that those people were actually mages with immense magical power!

Where on earth did they collect such a large number of magic users?!

This battle is clearly unavoidable.

I thought to myself, and raised my hand to summon a branch of lightning.
