Unconvinced, I scanned him from head to toe again, but aside from the withered fingers deliberately revealing his robes and the hunched spine that was obvious from his appearance, I could hardly make out any other details.
Even the black-robed figures standing behind him, I couldn't glean much useful information from them.
This made me frown even more.
The strange voice laughed again: "Don't waste your energy, kid. Since we know of your existence, we naturally know of your little tricks. Did you really think we would come here unguarded and stand here like this?"
My earlier guess was partially confirmed, but that didn't make me feel any better.
If he can clearly identify every move we currently have at our disposal, it's practically equivalent to our information being completely transparent to him, because we can't even clearly know what they look like, let alone identify who they are or what methods they possess.
“Since you’ve come here and made it clear you’re looking for us, you’re not here to waste time talking about these pointless things, are you?” During my silence, Sheng stepped forward, blocking my way and glaring at me. “Could it be that your lowly, insignificant cult has something you absolutely need our help with?”
Honestly, I'm more curious about what happened to Sheng than about those messengers. What kind of experiences did he go through that made a boy who used to be hesitant when he spoke to me suddenly transform into someone who knows the art of speaking with barbs?
Or perhaps this is actually Sheng's true nature, and when he was with me before, he was deliberately showing some of the more likable aspects of his personality.
The withered hand clenched tightly twice, as if suppressing anger, and finally let out a soft snort: "Hmph, sharp-tongued little girl... You must be Sheng, right? Apart from having a sharp tongue, you have nothing else to offer, not even backbone," I felt as if I was being glared at fiercely, "is weak."
They actually called Sheng a little girl...
Glancing at Sheng's ears, which quickly turned bright red, I instinctively retorted, "He may have a somewhat androgynous appearance, but that doesn't mean he's one of those spineless spoiled young ladies. Besides, he got to where he is today through his own hard work and perseverance."
"If you continue with this disrespectful attitude, then let's end our conversation here."
"It was clearly you who were disrespectful first..."
The strange voice seemed about to say something more, but was suddenly pulled back by someone who took half a step behind, whispered a few words in his ear, snorted coldly, and changed the subject.
He cut straight to the point: "We're here to give you our final notice:"
“You must hand over [Hilfider] to us within twenty-four hours, and [Uriel], you must come with us.”
"You're talking nonsense!"
Before I could even ask [Hilfider] a question, Sheng exploded: "Who do you think you are, the CIA? You're just a bunch of illegal thugs who came out of nowhere! Why should we agree to your unreasonable demands? Shouldn't you be compensating us for the damage caused by trespassing on our territory?"
"Losses... Ha, what a joke. Is there any indication here that this is a statement from your consulate? It's just a matter of whoever is stronger having the power to say what's going on."
No sooner had he finished speaking than several thick, intertwined vines sprang up from the wasteland, blocking the sunlight from above the group of people and swaying arrogantly.
I snapped my fingers at the opportune moment, causing a ball of fire that had rapidly expanded to nearly two stories high to hover above my fingertip.
Although this is just a rudimentary reverse application of compressed magic, it's enough to make a show of it if you just want to scare people.
The man in black robes panicked for a moment, and I could see that the emotions surrounding the person at the front became extremely gloomy and surprised, and there was no further sound for a long time.
I nodded in satisfaction: "It seems we've figured out the balance of power now, and we can have a proper conversation."
“Reiterate your purpose, and don’t forget to pay attention to your reasons and the tone of your voice.”
"Arrogant brat..."
In a daze, I heard a crisp snapping sound, as if someone had crushed their teeth. But after a brief moment, a strange laugh, just like before, suddenly rang out: "Hmph, I suddenly understand. Judging from your leisurely appearance and the fact that you haven't received any new revelations yet, you must not have discovered [Sylphid]'s true form, right? No wonder you can still be so ignorant and arrogant, spouting nonsense here."
I frowned again.
The man's tone became more urgent and excited, as if he had discovered some incredible secret: "Hmph, that's right. How could you ignorant brats possibly know what great things we are accomplishing? Even if we pointed out the beacon of disaster to you early on, you would probably just take it for granted and ignore it."
"Hmph, as expected, just looking at your stupid faces, I could guess pretty much everything..."
"etc."
A sudden flash of inspiration struck me, prompting me to interrupt his rambling: "The curse... that curse, could it be that you were the ones who cast it?"
The fanatical man in black robes suddenly regained his composure: "So what if it is?"
"Through human sacrifice?"
"Hmph, that was just a necessary step to help them achieve greatness ahead of time. They should be thanking me."
