The energy body, shimmering with a purplish-black hue, was no bigger than the palm of my hand. Yet, even through the screen, I could clearly feel that the threatening magical power emanating from it was far stronger than I had imagined, and its ominousness was even greater than before.
Surprisingly, I once again sensed something extremely familiar and familiar within it.
Before I could figure it out, a grayish-white arc of light flashed past the corner of my field of vision, slicing it in two.
The chaotic footsteps approached from afar, and a deep shadow was cast in front of him. The figure of the person was revealed by the white mist that was also cut in the middle. It was a sword demon wearing a black trench coat covered in filth.
I don't know what he did after he left. Did he slaughter another area of creatures, or did he fight a ferocious beast? In any case, the sword demon that appeared in my field of vision did not look to be in the best condition, and his body was covered with blood and filth.
He looked down and scrutinized the body that remained in place. After using his sword to knock away the fragile, withered vines that were wrapped around it, he hung high in the air, seemingly pondering where to strike.
But he ultimately did not do so.
"Was he originally a good person?" This question suddenly popped into my head.
"Hmm? You mean Sword Demon?" Sheng tilted his head and continued, "Well... I think it's a question that needs to be viewed dialectically."
"If he is one of the sword demons from the very first few reincarnations, then I can say without hesitation that he must be a genuinely good person. He is overly tender and selfless, and sometimes he can be indecisive, even willing to hurt himself to satisfy the enemy's wicked demands, but he can also make ruthless decisions, just like his [Defender of Justice] attribute."
"However... perhaps he has seen too much evil afterward. In countless reincarnations, every time he sees someone familiar from the past, he repeatedly makes the same mistakes and repeats the same errors... Indeed, if this were a game, it would just be a simple reuse of dialogue, nothing to be surprised about. But if you consider it as a person's reality, then it is too despairing."
“Every effort is erased, every change is just an empty echo. He can influence a small group of people around him, but he can never change the fact that the world he lives in is constantly sinking. Even the changes he made in the past will lose their meaning after restarting, just like the fine sand that eventually slips through his fingers, leaving no proof or significance.”
After a moment of silence, I shook my head and sighed, "...No wonder it ended up going so crazy."
"Yes, even if it were me, I don't think I could survive that endless cycle of reincarnation without going crazy."
He put his hands behind his head, leaned back, and looked up at the sky: "No, maybe I won't even make it through the first main quest. If you hadn't saved me in the beginning, I might have died in that city long ago, let alone left there and gained experience."
"That's because you told me that information." I shook my head.
Although it was only to utilize what he knew, there is no doubt that he did help me.
The petite boy chuckled, swaying his body back and forth, his slender legs kicking wildly in the air, seemingly unafraid of falling off the seat. His blue hair and ribbons swayed gently in the air.
He laughed for a while, then wiped his eyes, barely managing to suppress the smile: "Alright! I'll forgive you for now."
"Although I don't know how it was done, the tenth main quest should be considered complete now, right? Ah, among those people you said were cursed, the group with the shortest onset time and the mildest symptoms are gradually getting better. It's as if everything is getting better."
"It will be alright," I whispered reassuringly, patting the back of his hand that was placed in front of him.
Her delicate little hand twitched for a moment as if she had been electrocuted, as if she wanted to pull it back, but then settled it back in place.
Looking down, Sheng shook his head: "Don't comfort me. I know that I still couldn't do anything this time. It was almost entirely because my older brother took on most of the pressure that I look relaxed now."
"And...those who are already terminally ill...and Du Heng..."
He bit his lip and didn't continue speaking.
I am well aware of what he cares about.
After waking up, I took advantage of the time before anyone came looking for me and deliberately went out of the secluded room that was located underground to check around the house.
Those with mild symptoms are relatively easy to help, but for those whose bodies have already developed necrosis and shattering, even if the curse is lifted, they may not be able to fully recover. Like a broken glass vessel, the shattered parts are permanently broken; even if they are forcibly glued back together, it is merely piecing together a fragile facade, not restoring it to its original state.
Even the slightest movement could cause that fragile body to disintegrate and vanish completely, leaving it utterly dead.
After much deliberation, Sheng and I could only make one decision: to transfer the consciousness of those people to the plants rooted in their bodies, and control their own bodies through indirect means, in order to slow down the rate of disintegration and prolong their lives.
Undoubtedly, this proposal has been met with opposition from some people.
They are the patients' relatives and friends, the closest people to those suffering, so it is only natural that they react so strongly.
