Countless dim, curved screens covered every inch of space except where I was standing. In the center was a huge disc with four silver pillars, each nearly half a meter high, from which a stream of pale blue light flowed down. On the disc stood two people I knew.
Correction: It was a fairy and a ghost.
Why do you look at me so rudely?
The flower fairy, whom I hadn't seen in a long time, flew over noisily, wiggling her tiny legs and giving me a little kick on the side of my shoulder. Instead of making me feel any pain, she made me roll backward like a ball.
"It's been a long time."
I recently heard that Miss [Aisha] has made some breakthroughs in her painting skills, and she nodded and greeted me.
I responded in turn.
Looking at it this way, the combination in front of us is quite strange.
Lena is not only the most skilled at manipulating artifacts from the old era in the [Dawn] group, but also seems to be the oldest among them. The fact that she was able to gather together the fairy race, who should not be good at communicating with people, and the stable remnant souls, which are unstable products of human echoes, is already a miracle that is almost impossible to replicate under normal circumstances.
Moreover, the three people in front of them each have different areas of expertise: Lena is in the assembly and repair of machinery, the Flower Fairy is in the cultivation and care of plants, and Miss [Aisha] is in the painting and restoration of artwork...
It can be said that as long as there is even one similarity, it doesn't mean that they are completely unrelated.
"They're clearly related!"
The flower fairy, with her hands on her slender waist, landed on my shoulder and loudly retorted, "Look, aren't we each good at a different kind of work: 'creation' and 'repair'?"
I raised an eyebrow.
That's a novel perspective.
If we interpret it from this perspective, we might actually find a subtle commonality.
Following the directions, I sat down in the seat where the disc had risen, and once again asked the question that had not been answered before: "So, what is the reason for calling me here today, and for the three of you to gather here together?"
Lena, the flower fairy, and Miss [Aisha] exchanged glances and smiled in unison.
"Instead of just saying it, why don't you see it for yourself before you judge?" Lena laughed. "By the way, would you like some popcorn and soda?"
What kind of popcorn movie are you looking for?
Although that's what I was thinking, my head still nodded against my will.
Soon, as the snacks were ready and the other two were seated, the dim light around us gradually dimmed and went out, leaving only the faint glimmer in our eyes.
I instinctively tried to summon the light, but before I could even raise my hand halfway, a small hand reached out from the side and pressed it down.
"It's alright," the flower fairy whispered in my ear. "Don't rush to turn on the light. Take a closer look first."
What am I supposed to see? A completely black screen displays four bewildered faces sitting in a row, and then shamelessly boasts, "Aren't you handsome?"
In the silence, it seemed as if one could hear each other's breathing and the constant vibrations emanating from their pulses.
I lay back in a daze, trying to open my eyes wide, but it seemed that I could actually glimpse a few moving points of light on the pitch-black screen.
"That is emptiness."
Lena's voice, lowered and equally quiet, rang out: "Brother, you should have seen some tiny white dots, right? If you've ever walked through the void and paid close attention, you should have been able to see those dim, uneven points of light. Those were all fragments that once belonged to a certain world."
You could sense that the flower fairy sitting on your shoulder seemed to subconsciously adjust her posture.
I know that, of course.
This is a scenario I've experienced firsthand, gleaned from reading some obscure books.
In the final moments after the alien realm constructed by the flower fairy shattered, I experienced this firsthand as I was falling, because I had to take Miyuki, who possessed magical power similar to mine, on a void walk.
Now, as Lena's voice fell, on the numerous screens that seemed to have their color gamut or brightness adjusted, countless tiny worlds, as bright as stars and as beautiful and sparkling as diamonds, were constantly being born and dying in that void that could both give birth to and destroy everything, bursting out with dazzling brilliance.
That was a magnificent sight that I had never been able to witness before.
It's as if that void is a bottomless sea, and those tiny points of light, some bright and some dim, are plankton floating on the surface. They rise to the surface, live only a day, and die at night, but in the last moment before their lives come to an end, they release their last bit of energy as if they could.
...Although the reality isn't quite so rosy.
As if the brightness and darkness had been readjusted, amidst the undulating brilliance, a particularly bright void, surrounded by numerous deep, dark colors, was instantly revealed to us after the viewpoint shifted. If I'm not mistaken, it must be the breach in the barrier of our world that I've seen with my own eyes before.
However, perhaps it's just my imagination, but compared to the one I saw before, it seems that the tear is a bit bigger?
The scene didn't linger there; after a fleeting glimpse, the camera moved to a corner near the world barrier, where the miniature garden, detached yet not entirely detached, resembled a fruit hanging from a tree, showing a hint of unripeness.
I opened my eyes wide and rubbed them repeatedly, confirming the sight in disbelief.
A satisfied hum could be heard in my ear.
