Chapter 204 Defense Update
Emerging from the Library of All Things, I continued upwards, crossing two lawns, until I arrived in front of this colossal building, entirely silver-white, adorned only with faint blue light bands near its hidden seams.
There was no rush, so I first walked around the huge bowl-shaped building that was upside down on the spot with my hands behind my back, and then walked around it again in the opposite direction. After confirming that I could not find an entrance with a concept similar to a "door", I curled my fingers and gently tapped on the shell that was much more solid than it looked.
The sensation was like striking a piece of glass, accompanied by a sound that seemed to ripple inwards. After a short wait, a small, dark hole suddenly appeared at eye level before retracting back to its original position.
After a brief silence, the wall in front of me suddenly opened up with jagged cracks on the left and right. The silvery-white shell seemed to possess some kind of real life force, and it retreated on its own, creating a narrow passage large enough for me to stand up and walk in.
It was still the same silver color as the outer shell, and the light strips were perfectly embedded in the ceiling that had just been opened. The footholds kept changing according to my walking speed, as if guiding me, turning left and right to avoid the many large and immovable pipes along the way, without ever forcing me to come into close contact with them.
While walking, I roughly estimated my current location.
Despite the numerous turns and even two instances where it seemed like we were spinning in circles—which could be confusing for those with poor sense of direction—I was fortunate enough to adapt well. After a brief period of confusion, I was able to determine my location and the distance I had traveled by observing the locating magic.
"It's roughly five meters underground, about sixty-four meters inwards..."
I looked up at the unchanging, plain-colored sky and for a moment I really didn't realize that I had walked so far.
But that's strange.
The current detection feedback tells me that I have begun to go deeper underground, but there is no smell of soil in the air, not even a trace of mud, and I can't feel any inclination from the soles of my feet touching the ground.
Could it be that the ground beneath our feet is settling down on its own?
It seems the design continuously creates new paths ahead as I walk, and it's not impossible that it might extend downwards without my noticing. Perhaps the reason I kept circling in place earlier was to achieve this.
But that's not reasonable either.
Looking back, I witnessed firsthand the changes that occurred after Lena left the large experimental facility.
Like a reflection on the bottom of the water, or some kind of deceptive illusion, or an unfolded painting, in an instant, the huge silver-white building shimmered with white light from top to bottom, and after the many dark blue light bands on its surface dimmed simultaneously, it quickly disappeared into the air.
I confirmed at that time that the location where it was set up was still completely undeveloped, without any buildings or plants. The green grass swayed from side to side with the wind circulating naturally in the miniature garden, presenting a natural and refreshing beauty.
However, it's also possible that in the days that followed, Lena dug deeper and dug out a lot more empty spaces.
Regarding my older sister's affairs, I only occasionally pay a little attention when I think of them; otherwise, I mostly let her do as she pleases, so I don't know much more about them. At this moment, I can only make simple guesses about the ongoing experiments and their corresponding effects from the numerous components that occasionally flash before my eyes.
The moving metal and mechanical components seemed to possess a unique beauty, making me stop and admire them as I walked along the passageway. Most of the structures would generously demonstrate their movements once or twice through transparent glass, then draw an arrow shape beside them, silently urging me to move forward.
And so, after walking for about thirty minutes, I finally strolled over to Lena, who was already getting impatient.
"Dude, you're taking way too long! I've been waiting forever!"
Lena jumped off the swivel chair, quickly approached me, grabbed my wrist, and turned to walk inside.
As we walked, she chatted with me, "Brother, I'm not saying this to be mean, but... Ah! Although I know this is your first time visiting my experimental base, and most likely your first time seeing those things, you can go see them later! You can even ask me to explain!"
"Let's deal with this matter first!"
I followed closely behind: "I still don't know what you called me here to show me, boss."
"When I woke up this morning, the first thing I saw was you standing in front of my bed. It almost scared me to death! And you were being so mysterious, not saying anything specific, just asking me to come over..."
Lena tilted her head and blinked, revealing a mysterious smile: "Of course, I have something 'good' to show you."
It would be a lie to say I wasn't curious, otherwise I wouldn't have made a special trip here.
I tried to guess: "Did you make something with the materials I gave you before? Or did you complete a stage but encounter some bottleneck, so you wanted to show it to me and ask me to purchase some other materials?"
"Hmph~ I knew you wouldn't guess."
After another series of twists and turns, Lena finally led me to a door that was nearly two meters high. We leaned in front of the suddenly appearing round opening, opened our eyes wide, and reached out to touch the wall in front of us. After some effort, the tightly sealed door slowly opened to both sides with a slight mechanical sound, revealing a fairly spacious circular space.
