"You don't understand a damn thing!"
I pressed her head down, rubbing it rapidly from side to side, and said, "Tell me! What are you doing in my room for no reason!"
Her dark red eyes darted around: "No, I didn't! I wasn't curious because I saw the door open by itself!"
I understand. It was because he saw the door wasn't closed properly and there was no one inside that he got the idea to sneak in, right?
It's strange. Although I don't care whether anyone visits my living room, I usually make sure to double-check that the doors and windows are closed and the curtains are drawn so that I can enjoy my trip without too much outside interference. This is especially true when I leave the room.
I will always make sure the door is closed before I feel comfortable leaving.
So here's the question: why did Anne tell me that the door was open when she arrived?
There are two possibilities.
I squinted and looked her up and down, then pressed her head down with one hand and asked in a deliberately cold voice, "Tell me the truth, did you open this door?"
"Who wants to open your wooden door!"
Anne leaned back, trying to escape the pressure on her head, but failed. She could only pout and puff out her cheeks: "I just came in to take a look around. I haven't even started looking through your pile of stuff that looks so boring! Besides, your door lock is so complicated. I don't have the time or energy to waste on solving problems."
Indeed, judging by his brain and intelligence, which is on par with that of a little idiot, there's really not much chance he could solve the puzzle I left on the door and open it smoothly.
Having been repeatedly hampered by doll-like maids and scumbag rabbits who had broken into and locked my room, I was instinctively more vigilant. While I wouldn't necessarily replace the lock on an entire door, some preparation was necessary. This included setting up a multi-dimensional, high-order puzzle using magic.
This is a special mechanism where, without knowing the preset variables, you can only forcefully exhaustively solve the puzzle using more magic power than the magic power that sets it up. There is absolutely no other way to take a shortcut. Unless you can directly obtain the corresponding answer to unlock the door at the end of the level, even the most powerful transformation mode cannot be broken by those clay puppets.
However, despite this, it can only actually defend against a few people who know very little about it.
The cat and the hound, as well as the dark one who can move freely using the shadow space and is not limited by the space itself, can all ignore the door lock's defense. Miyuki's way of getting close to this is to make a hole in the wall next to it, which is more vulnerable than the lock. Yao can know the result directly but has no interest in opening the door, so he casually tells Hikari.
I've never known what he's doing in some corner of the miniature garden, pfft... To be honest, this guy's methods are a bit unconventional.
I really didn't expect that this slime, which I had just casually left in the miniature garden and ignored, would have a total amount of magic power far beyond my imagination.
Previously, during an experiment, it was even observed that it extended a part of its limbs and gently placed it on the door lock, which dissolved and digested the magic clusters attached to its surface. At the same time, it darted through the gap to the other side and opened the door!
So this guy is actually a very dangerous being! I'd believe it if you told me he could grow into a demon king who could destroy the world tomorrow.
The only saving grace was that the little guy didn't seem to have any such intentions. After successfully opening the door, he twisted his limbs, making his core flash, and wrapped his arms around my ankle, leaning towards me as if he were being affectionate.
And after I reached out and gently patted its soft and elastic exterior, the colors within it began to shimmer even faster and more intensely.
Judging from this, could it be that you really forgot to close the door properly when you left home today?
But I clearly remember that the room wasn't that messy when I left.
A gentle tap came from behind me, which brought me back to my senses. I rubbed Annie's soft black hair a few more times before letting go.
"However, I didn't expect Mr. Yumi's room to become so messy again."
Hikari sighed and didn't say anything more. She simply walked straight into the house, bent down to pick up the books that had become a mess because of Annie's fall, and gently dusted them off.
I felt wronged: "Let me state upfront, the room wasn't this messy when I left."
"Additional statement: this room was already this mess when I came in," Annie quickly interjected, adding insult to injury.
In other words, assuming someone did open my room, they must have entered after I left but before Anne.
"Huh, it's a history book?" Hikari exclaimed in surprise as she quickly picked up the books from the ground. "I thought Mr. Yumi might be more interested in light novels or spellbooks."
"Ah, it was just to look up some information."
I scratched my head, a little embarrassed: "As for the latter two, the former is just a hobby I use to pass the time when I'm bored, while the latter is a subject that I must master and have to review frequently. If my name weren't still on the academic list, I probably wouldn't even want to study those unless absolutely necessary."
That's about it.
"The hobbies we use to pass the time are because we like them, that's why we do them."
Realizing she couldn't help, Annie jumped onto my bed, sat on the edge with her legs tucked in, and tilted her head to look at me: "Hey, stop! Don't spout your weird theories to me, this is just how I feel!"
