It's likely that the fighting power of those servants, whom they forcibly took in and who were often caught in hunger and despair, was more than twice that of the other group.
After calming the restless rabbit down, I pressed for more details, including "Did the person on the east side rescue anyone?", "What kinds of animals are there in the city and what is their distribution?", "Is there anywhere I can find and replace clothes similar to those of the white-robed guys?", "Other methods and channels for escaping?", and so on. I received answers in turn.
Meanwhile, someone came to investigate the spot where I had used my transformation spell earlier and discovered the unfortunate guy who had been dragged halfway into the bushes. However, according to Alice's powerful hearing, the two guys who came to check for the anomaly didn't find anything unusual. They even assumed that the unfortunate guy who had passed out on the ground had drunk too much before his shift and accidentally passed out. After waking him up, they scolded him harshly and didn't give him any time to object while he was still unconscious. They grabbed him by the back of his collar and dragged him away.
The stairs leading to the top of the tower remained quiet, not a sound could be heard at all.
"Luckily they're all idiots," Alice gloated.
"We still need to be cautious and not assume that all behaviors that others cannot understand are foolish. Maybe they are just a performance to deceive people."
I was equally disgusted by the behavior of the people I had just seen: "Just like the situation in the east is gradually becoming lively, the west seems to be quiet, but it could also be said to be a deliberate diversion. We only have one chance, and if we fail completely, it will be difficult to enter so smoothly next time."
"So?"
"Given the current situation, it's more appropriate for me to go."
I wiped my paws: "Although it's a bit strange for a cat to suddenly jump out in a place like this, it's still more relaxing than suddenly catching a glimpse of someone sneaking up on you when you're on edge. I just need to carefully avoid any potential traps or attacks and take a look at the room that Miyuki told me about before."
"Anyway, there aren't any large-scale magical turbulences like in the mountains here. If things go wrong, I can just pull the door open and escape, which is better than being surrounded with you all. At worst, I'll just be sent back to the greenhouse garden, and then I'll just go back the way I came."
"Wow, it sounds like we've suddenly gone from being a key fighting force to a liability."
Alice chuckled and said, "But your method is still not safe. Why don't I come along too? I'm confident in my ability to hide. I can stay nearby and help out if anything happens. As for Miyuki... well, you're the one in more trouble now... Why don't you just find a place where no one will find you and hide? You can also keep watch for us."
Having a swordsman who has already reached the level of a sword saint assist in keeping watch is truly a luxurious and rare thing.
However, Miyuki did not raise any objections. She simply nodded silently and took the lead in jumping out of the window. After a few leaps, she hid in a well-positioned shadow. Only when looking down from above could one discern a slight abnormality from the unnaturally undulating outline.
On the other side, Alice, who had brought me along, also swiftly and lightly descended from the tower. The transition from extreme motion to extreme stillness was almost instantaneous, yet the sensation was as smooth as ever, as if I had never felt any particularly noticeable change. There were not even many dents or cracks on the ground where she landed, as if she had simply jumped lightly from back to front and landed gently.
"That's really impressive. Even my Feather Fall Technique can't achieve this level."
I looked at the ground nearby in surprise, rubbed it gently, and then turned to look at her.
Alice stood with her hands on her hips triumphantly, when suddenly a pair of snow-white rabbit ears peeked out from under the brim of her hat. The tips of the ears twitched slightly, and then she vanished from my sight in a flash.
I immediately lunged towards the wall not far away, using my body color to blend into the darkness and observe quietly from the shadows.
The guard, emerging from around the corner, approached silently. He carried no light source, but instead rested his right hand on the hilt of his sword, his eyes gleaming faintly like those of a bloodthirsty wolf, constantly scanning left and right.
However, he didn't notice me hiding to the side, nor did he notice Alice who had just disappeared. He simply walked straight past me and turned to the other side.
I also spotted at least three or four more of these menacing guards in the shadows, all crouching on the treetops, holding crossbows and quietly looking around. There might be even more that I hadn't noticed.
"It's a good thing I didn't let Miyuki come along, otherwise we would have been exposed just now."
I shook my head, confirming that my camouflage was indeed working, and quickly walked around to the main entrance.
The small building in front of us was under close surveillance. The loose guards were just a smokescreen. All the doors and windows were tightly closed and curtains were drawn, so no light could see through them and we couldn't see the specific situation.
But I'm not entirely without options.
Patiently waiting for the patrolling guards to leave, I reached out and summoned the silver key. I prepared to unlock the door in the shortest possible time, and after making sure that I could force the door open a crack, I slipped inside and hid in an unrelated passageway.
The external chaos continues.
The bells rang incessantly, followed by a series of explosions and shouts.
I don't know who the other kind person was who barged in around the same time as us and kindly diverted most of the attention of the remaining personnel. If it weren't for him, I might have had to take a few more detours to avoid the numerous guards.
