The rustling wind swept through the treetops, and the huge, elongated rhomboid polyhedron structure emitted a dim light, like a real moon, suspended in mid-air above the inner city.
"Alright, that's enough with the casual fun."
The rascal, whose shoulder I had patted repeatedly, shrugged and then pulled me, who had fallen off my shoulder, into his arms: "Let's get back to business."
Have you confirmed your goal for this trip?
The boy in black paused for a moment, then suddenly turned his head away and closed his mouth again.
Then he was kicked hard in the chest: "Hey, I don't care who you are, but I advise you to think it over carefully and figure out whether to choose to speak and cooperate, or whether we should use other methods to confirm the information you know."
"Let me make it clear beforehand that I'm not a completely kind person. I only got involved in this incident because I was invited. I don't mind using some special methods to achieve my goals; in fact, it might be better that way."
This threat appears to be real and effective.
Even Shenxue, who had been standing quietly not far away, couldn't help but cast a glance at me, wondering if this guy had gone too far. I also turned my head away, barely managing to conceal the change in my expression by using the cat's body as cover, so as not to give myself away.
I feel that all the impressions I had of the [Knights of Dawn] that she had raved about during our casual chats, about how powerful they were and how kind, capable, and tolerant the members were, have now completely collapsed, leaving not a trace of them.
I have absolutely no idea whether to complain about how much time has changed, or if this is just his nature.
However, for a young man who has little experience of the world, this tactic is a perfect and potent medicine.
His face showed obvious shock; his body trembled uncontrollably as he was lightly stepped on, and he instinctively opened his trembling lips: "I...I didn't see it..."
"Explain yourself! Did you never enter the rumored place of confinement, or did you enter but couldn't find it, or did you confirm it wasn't there?"
"No, not here." The boy shook his head frantically.
"In other words, you've already been inside."
The boy nodded quickly, his attitude so docile it was as if his previous resistance had been entirely fake: "Yes...! I, I searched all three floors as fast as I could. But, there was nothing inside..."
"It seems to be just as we received the information."
Alice gracefully withdrew her leg and gently rubbed the back of my neck: "Those guys put the confinement in other places. This place is just a trap to attract attention and eliminate opponents."
"And then because their skill level was too low, we just forced our way through... Is that what you meant?"
I replied, and then I noticed that the boy next to me was looking at me with surprise again.
This made my ears itch a bit, so I couldn't help but twitch them a few times before I felt a little better.
When he was being led away from the search area, he thought it would be more convenient to stay in his transformed state. However, after stopping here, he was busy dealing with the little guy he had taken with him and forgot to change back to his original state. After he slowly woke up, he felt that changing back now would be too shocking to some of the boy's ideas and seemed not good. So he missed the opportunity to undo the transformation immediately.
It's not that I can't change back now, but it's too embarrassing to be stared at like this by someone I don't know well. It's better to let him think that I'm just a little kitten who can talk and think.
At least you won't be awkwardly grabbed by the sleeve and bombarded with questions.
However, the boy's attention was quickly drawn to our conversation: "What did you mean by what you were saying just now?"
"Literal meaning."
Alice seemed uninterested in the answer, but at my patting gesture, she clicked her tongue and replied, "Simply put, those people deliberately set a trap here to lure in guys like you who want to rescue people, intending to capture or kill them. Their real target is hidden in another location, and they're making sure they can keep them under constant surveillance. There might even be stronger people guarding the area than those lying in ambush here... Do you have any ideas?"
The young boy, lost in thought and stroking his chin, remained silent for a while before nodding slightly and hesitatingly saying, "...Maybe."
"Since you have an idea, why not say it?"
“But I can’t guarantee you’re completely trustworthy.” He stared at us warily. “I still don’t know your purpose, the reason for taking me away, or why you’re asking me about all this.”
"Wow, this little brat is such a nuisance! Can I just kill him?" Alice raised her voice again, her tone exaggerated.
Seeing the boy flinch again, but then suddenly straighten his chest and glare at her, the sly rabbit narrowed her ruby-like eyes and smiled wickedly.
She extended her index finger and gently poked the boy's shoulder, then with a slight push, pressed him down against the back of the bench: "Hehe, I was just joking. My master is a very kind person, he would never allow me to do such a thing~ As for the purpose... well, let's just say, our purposes are temporarily aligned, okay?"
"...You're here to rescue Til too?"
The boy blurted out in surprise, but quickly covered his mouth with his hands and leaned back warily: "Wait, you actually said your master... Could it be that you are actually in cahoots with those guys?"
"Oh, so that's the name of the person who was taken away by those guys."
