...To be honest, I'm not used to having an older sister who suddenly appeared in my life.
Although my mother, Mitchell, also liked to show affection directly through her hands, that was still physical affection. Unlike Leticia, although I knew in my heart that she was now my new family, she was still a stranger I had only met a few times, and she had a close relationship with my brother, so I always felt a little awkward and uncomfortable.
On the contrary, Leticia looked perfectly normal, which made me wonder if I was the one with the problem.
Miyuki, who was standing quietly to the side holding her sword, observed us with her usual calm expression: "You two know each other?"
I nodded slightly: "My brother's wife, whom he married not long ago, is my sister-in-law."
Leticia emerged from the sealed-off room and introduced herself with a smile, showing no fear or awkwardness.
Miyuki returned the greeting briefly, then glanced at me with surprise: "I rarely hear you talk about your family. I thought you didn't get along with them."
These words left me stunned for a moment.
I remember Hikari and the others had expressed the same sentiment when they received the invitation from home. I was originally going to explain, but Yao and Hikari kept interrupting me, and I forgot about it in the blink of an eye.
As I've mentioned before, my relationship with my family isn't bad.
My steady father, beautiful mother, and capable brother are all tolerant and affectionate towards me. They support most of my decisions, and even when they disagree, they don't forcefully issue orders but rather point out the flaws in my decisions. Even if they rack their brains, they can't find any faults to complain about.
The reason why it's not usually mentioned is simply because there's nothing involving family that needs to be discussed, and I'm usually busy with other things, so it's easily forgotten.
Compared to me, it was these guys who often accompanied me who spoke very little about their kinship. Although a few of them had reasons that were inconvenient to talk about, the rest of them kept their personal matters hidden behind a great deal of secrecy.
"Hey—are you guys done yet?"
Alice's feignedly nervous voice came from the descending passage: "Those raggedly dressed guys are almost here, aren't they? If you don't hurry up, I don't mind playing with them for a while, okay?"
Damn it, this guy clearly thinks today's accident wasn't big enough!
Forget it, this isn't the time to talk about this.
After confirming once again that there was nothing else to be careful about, I walked ahead, with Shen Xue at the back, quickly returning to the dust-smoked ground through the passage.
Most of the people we rescued from the underground took advantage of my conversation with Leticia to scatter and escape from the dark basement. Miyuki watched the situation unfold with a cold eye and didn't say anything.
Only one person, whose spirit had likely completely collapsed and who had suffered a severe disability in one limb, remained huddled in place, trembling. Judging from the long, pointed ears peeking out from between her fingers, she seemed to be an elf, an extremely rare sight among humans.
"Even if we forcibly take her away, her heartbreak has already been completely healed. It's better to let her die here."
Despite making such a cold statement, Miyuki only briefly pointed the tip of her sword at the elf's chin without actually making a move before turning and leaving.
The rest of the process was thrilling but ultimately safe.
Standing atop the high ruins, Alice, gazing into the distance, was the first to spot our return. Her snow-white rabbit ears, hidden between her hood and hair, twitched slightly, and she hopped back to our side, grabbing the young boy who was trying to escape through a side path and pulling him up by the back of the neck.
"Wow, what a quick return!" the rascal said with a grin. "It would have been more interesting if it had been a little later!"
"Stop messing around, let's get out of here safely first." I shook my head. "Besides, we're here to do something. If you want to go crazy, wait until we get back."
Alice smiled and gave a "oh".
The boy, who had resigned himself to his fate, frowned in confusion when he looked up and saw Leticia sandwiched between us. "Who are you?" he asked, turning to us and demanding, "Didn't you rescue Til as well?"
"I don't know who this Til you're talking about is."
Miyuki said, "But apart from this lady and the few people who just escaped from underground, only one elf has chosen to stay underground."
I nodded in agreement with her words.
The little guy frowned, looking around with a clear expression of disbelief.
"Regardless of whether we haven't found the person you mentioned, or we found them but missed them, or we need to find out the details of how these people were kidnapped here, we need to leave here first before making any further plans."
Watching Alice forcefully grab the struggling little guy around the waist and carry him around easily like a sack of rice, I shook my head and had Miyuki take Leticia, who was following closely beside her, and quickly leave along two inconspicuous paths before the city guards, who had been stumbling and slowly making their way to surround them, arrived.
With perfect understanding, half an hour later, we successfully circled around the city and distracted the city guards, before meeting up again at the foot of the three-story building belonging to the saintess.
"You can barely see any pursuers here."
Opening her eyes, Miyuki nodded in relief, released her grip on Leticia's hand, and took a step back.
