I glanced at Alice sitting across from me out of the corner of my eye, and just then I saw her smiling at me. I could only quickly lower my eyes and pretend to be nonchalant.
A silent voice suddenly rang out from a distant corner: "It's probably one of their collections. It's said to be a magical device that can minimize the effects of magic on the human body. If an ordinary person wore one, it might reduce the discomfort of [long-distance teleportation] to almost zero."
He was a silent follower of the Star Cult.
To be honest, I still don't know his name. Including the young boy who clearly lives in the inner city.
Before dwelling on that point, another question immediately arose: "Those wild mages... they clearly don't have that much spellcasting ability, right? I confirmed before that most of them can't even set up a magic circle." Otherwise, they wouldn't be using elemental stones as their main means of attack.
The man shook his head: "In order to cover necessary expenses and daily maintenance, Frost Tower regularly provides the church here with a number of scrolls as payment, some of which are [long-distance teleportation] scrolls."
Even though he didn't continue speaking, the rest was still clear.
Furthermore, those wild mages clearly have a cooperative relationship with the church, and the person I unexpectedly dealt with last night claimed to be an apprentice of the Frost Tower. Now, almost everything has been connected.
In short, these people, either by virtue of or under the guise of the Frost Tower, collaborated with the local church, which was the most powerful force in the region. The church, for its own reasons, demanded that they bring a pure young girl as a human sacrifice. It is highly likely that the initial target of this pure girl was the blind saintess, Til, but for some reason—perhaps bewitched by those eyes—they ultimately chose to abandon her.
In order to complete their task at the last minute, they forcibly tore open the scroll, put on magical tools to reduce the discomfort, and randomly selected someone to tie up in the basement and keep under strict supervision. It just so happened that the person was Leticia.
Since most people don't know who Thiel is, we can just pick anyone no one recognizes who looks decent enough to get by. Plus, given the long period of captivity they've had, even if they discover the candidate isn't right, those guys won't be able to object and will have no choice but to bite the bullet and go for it.
This also explains why, despite the deliberately leaked information that the boy's target was Thiel, we ended up rescuing Leticia instead.
...That's roughly it.
All I can say is that things happened in a very bizarre way.
Thinking this, I thoughtfully raised my eyes and looked at the blind saint sitting opposite me.
In this series of chaotic events, what role does she actually play?
