"But they said that this was just an intention at the moment, and that if possible, they hoped that we could send some people with them to conduct an on-site inspection before placing an order. I declined, saying that this matter could not be decided and that I needed to call a person in charge for them. As a result, I had just gotten up and had not taken more than a few steps when I suddenly felt someone hug me from behind, and then everything went black and I lost consciousness."
She meticulously recounted the story's details, her voice calm and unhurried, as if she were unconcerned about being inexplicably kidnapped.
But instead of making people feel at ease, this made them even more anxious.
Something fiery and trembling seemed to be about to erupt in my heart, and I couldn't help but frown: "And then? You were brought to Tianqi City? In this weather, and at the very end of the beast tide, nowhere is safe. Those guys just took you around like this?"
After a pause, I remembered the crucial question: "Wait, it's been more than twenty days already. Hasn't my brother realized that you've been kidnapped? Didn't he send someone out to find you on the way?"
If that's the case, then my brother has failed in his duty as a husband.
Putting everything else aside, as long as they don't leave the Mermaid Harbor area, with my family's extensive social connections, unless the other party does an extremely thorough job of concealing their actions, intercepting the newlywed wife of the next generation's heir who was kidnapped halfway through the journey wouldn't be a difficult task for them.
You could say they are the opposite extreme of me.
"So this is Apocalypse City. No wonder everyone was wearing such thick clothes..."
Leticia cupped her face, a slight wry smile appearing on her gentle expression.
She first showed me the ring on her left ring finger before continuing the conversation: "How could I not be worried? Yuel has been driving me crazy. Look at the long-distance communication magic stone set in this ring. It flashed a few times just ten minutes ago, that's Yuel trying to contact me."
"Unfortunately, the distance was too far, and the communication could not be established smoothly. So I could only try to call back to let him know that I was now safe."
"Of course, it would be great if we could connect smoothly at any moment, which would mean that he is now within a hundred kilometers of me."
This gave me a temporary sense of relief.
I then focused my attention on her fingertips, carefully examining the magic stone that she described as "allowing free communication within a hundred kilometers".
This is truly the first time I've ever seen a magical device like this.
Although after figuring out the full name of my workshop, I understood that those people would occasionally come up with some novel gadgets, this one was still beyond my comprehension.
"By changing the wavelength of magic to achieve a connection, and then using the change in wavelength itself to transmit messages? What a novel design." Even Alice, who usually didn't care much about this, turned her head to take a look while munching on tea and snacks, and briefly explained the general principle.
I feel I can understand it, but it's not clear enough, and it even raises more questions:
"How can I guarantee that the wavelength I adjust will connect to the corresponding object?" and "Won't changes in wavelength cause communication interruptions?" and "Does such a magical device have other limitations, and what form does the transmitted message take when it propagates through the wavelength?"...etc.
But now is not the time to ask these questions.
I forcibly suppressed the urge to ask questions and instead focused on Leticia herself, my sister-in-law: "Those bastards... I mean, those who kidnapped you here, they shouldn't have done anything to you, right? Have you been eating and resting properly?"
Leticia shook her head gently: "They didn't do anything to me, they even told me to eat and sleep well, and the food and water were delivered on time. Even though I was locked in a stuffy room, I could still roughly tell how much time had passed."
"Furthermore, I knew your brother had been trying to find me, so I wasn't too scared."
“I understand, I understand, it’s the power of love~” I selectively ignored Alice’s interjection.
"You must have suffered a lot on this journey, right?"
As an ordinary person, Leticia cannot enjoy the convenience of spells that are too demanding, such as Voidwalking. She can only travel slowly and painstakingly by changing vehicles and other ordinary means.
Even disregarding the impact of the beast tide, just considering the distance from Mermaid Harbor to the Frozen Snow City, which spans almost half the map, and further considering the fact that bypassing the Dark Land required more than double the journey length regardless of the route, along with the numerous bumps along the way, there is no doubt that Leticia must have suffered considerable hardship on her way here.
However, to my surprise, Leticia responded to my words with a puzzled tilt of her head and a question: "No? I didn't actually feel any hardship. Rather, I was already in that room when I opened my eyes again after losing consciousness."
What's going on here?
I felt both surprised and relieved. Surprised because Leticia's testimony was clearly illogical, but relieved because I was glad she hadn't suffered too much or encountered any accidents during the transfer.
If, like when we arrived, we stumble upon a ferocious giant bear awakened from hibernation and hunting for food, those wild mages we beat up wouldn't be able to protect Leticia, let alone themselves.
Speaking of which, we haven't seen those wild mages much since. What happened to them at Alice's hands?
