Chapter 239 Hidden Matters

"I just used a few simple tricks to make them think the search was over."

When questioned, the blind saint gently wiped the corner of her mouth with a cotton cloth and gave a very concise explanation.

It took me half a minute to finally realize what was happening.

If there were any other way to deceive the search, aside from the Star Cultist who had already retreated to the upper floor, it would only be Til's eyes, which could see the calamity hidden in the dark world.

"But isn't it supposed to be about compatibility? Is it really okay to just let them see it so easily?"

I asked in confusion, while noticing a faint stain of blood on the cotton cloth that was quickly put away.

"If we hope that they can also witness the scene on the other side, then we really need to force a rare compatibility."

The blind saint patiently explained, her hands never stopping as she prepared the flower tea, as if she were still a person with clear eyes: "However, it is not necessary to do anything more than let them have their own wrong ideas. A simple glance is enough."

I nodded and silently processed what she had said.

It feels even slightly more powerful than illusion, and its ability to substitute common sense makes it even more worthy of vigilance.

Did she use the same method when she made eye contact with me earlier? It's hard not to think that way. However, her deliberately concealed actions just now also exposed another problem: such a method puts a heavy burden on her body, to the point that she can't perform it safely.

The chaotic flow of magic I heard through my own perception was only the slightest effect. Although I couldn't discern the deeper physiological aspects, I knew it wasn't good.

It seems there are still many things I don't know about her strange eyes.

Now, a group of us are gathered in the room where we stayed last night, enjoying tea and snacks around a small table set up on the bed.

Alice brought it up after scanning everyone around. It's unclear whether she was spoiled by Hikari or deliberately trying to stir up trouble because of the heavy atmosphere. Fortunately, her interruption successfully eased the awkward silence and made the atmosphere gentle and warm.

Apart from the slightly bitter tea leaves and honeysuckle generously provided by the blind saint, as well as the slightly hard and crumbly cookies, most of the tea snacks were things I carried with me.

Since I was confirmed to be leaving yesterday, the night before, Hikari specially set aside a few hours before bed to prepare a huge amount of snacks for me, enough to last for dozens of days, and stuffed them into a small compartment in my pocket. Thankfully, things stored in a small compartment don't have the concept of time passing or spoiling; most can be stored in appropriately divided, independent spaces. Otherwise, I would really wonder what those moldy, long-stored, gooey things actually were.

In short, thankfully, this awkward incident did not occur, which is also one of the reasons why I regretfully stated last night, when faced with such a large amount of valuables, that I did not have much space to store them.

Even the guy who had been giving me the cold shoulder quietly pulled open the door and came in, holding the plate that had been given to him, and huddled in the corner, silently chewing. At first glance, you'd think he was some kid who had a fight with his parents and couldn't bear to eat, so he just stubbornly huddled in the corner to eat.

The young boy who called the blind saintess Till seemed uninterested in the simple afternoon tea. Even after being fed by the saintess several times, he couldn't eat much. He kept his eyes fixed on her, as if he wanted to see right through her, but he remained silent.

Leticia, who had been rescued from underground and had come with us, pulled me to sit down beside her. On the other side was Alice, who was talking to herself and deliberately leaning in, making the already small space feel cramped. As a result, Miyuki had to go around the back of the bed, pick up her sword, and lean against the wall, showing that she didn't want to get involved.

Although it was a bit awkward, I didn't let this opportunity pass me by.

After thanking her for the flower tea, I held it to my nose for a moment, then put it down and turned to Leticia: "Sister, could you tell me how you got there?"

Although I tried to keep my voice down, most of the people in the room, apart from the two of us, were capable individuals who possessed magic and had a certain degree of control over it. The blind saintess, in particular, had exceptional hearing due to her blindness. I figured that only the little guy sitting a bit further away from me would likely not be able to hear our conversation.

Leticia, who had been elegantly sipping her tea, put down her cup, straightened her posture, and turned her head to look at me with a smile as gentle as autumn water: "Are you curious about this? Although it's not that I can't tell you, my memory of this matter is actually limited, and I may miss many details, so I can't provide the necessary help."

I shook my head to indicate that I didn't mind.

Leticia closed her eyes, a look of reminiscence on her face. After a while, she nodded gently: "Well, then I'll just give you a brief explanation."

"About ten days ago, I was at home helping Yuel draw up blueprints when a group of people suddenly came to our door. My parents happened to be out, and Yuel was also unable to get away, so I was responsible for meeting with them."

"The group claimed to be trade envoys sent by the city lord of Qingyuan City. They said they had heard about my family's business and wanted to come to discuss the details of the transaction. I don't know much about this kind of thing, I've only heard Yuel mention it a little, so I didn't dare to make a decision. I prepared to go upstairs to call him."
