The dust and grime were wiped away, and the air became fresh and clean on its own, representing a part of the natural power under the control of the core spirit, as if it had always existed here, without any disharmony with everything here.
Well, it seems I don't need to worry about this anymore.
My physical strength was unknowingly depleted, and the air pressure at high altitude made me a little breathless. My magic circuits were also slightly stinging from bearing too much unrefined magic in a short period of time, but I could still hold on.
So, there's one last thing we can do now.
"Master, can you still hold on?"
Alice crept up to me, brandishing her ceremonial sword as she asked me a question.
Looking down, at the top of the inner city wall below, frost-white sword energy swung and slashed, shattering all the larger boulders that fell nearby, or simply bouncing them off to places where no one was moving.
I nodded, thought for a moment, and then simply gestured for her to put her arm around me to save her energy. I immediately moved on to something else.
The defense system, previously spearheaded by Lena, began to operate with a slight hum. A pale blue light flashed across the silver rings before transforming into a dangerous crimson. The three split rings merged in succession, instantly opening countless equally sized small windows from which swirling, transparent crystals encased in metal shot out, scattering in all directions according to my will, each unleashing a long, narrow blade of light.
"What is this? What is this? It's kind of cool!"
Alice was shaking me around quite loudly, which made me furrow my brows, which were already throbbing with pain in my head.
It's the Dragoon system.
As part of the sandbox interception and defense system, even when it is used for offense, its power is still evident.
The falling rubble was cleanly cleaved in two the instant it touched the light blade. The part that was touched evaporated in large quantities, and even the melted droplets were not left behind. Only a little gray smoke remained, rising upwards away from the drifting dust.
It consumes very little magic power, is exceptionally flexible and convenient to operate, has a large range of movement, and is quite powerful. Apart from the fact that controlling multiple parts requires multitasking, which slightly increases the rate at which mental fatigue accumulates, it can be said to be the best defensive weapon with almost no drawbacks.
"But if this continues, your body will give out before you can prevent the disaster."
Alice gently reminded me that my outstretched legs were firmly planted in mid-air, where there was nothing to lean on.
I nodded with difficulty, swallowed the metallic taste churning in my throat, and looked up at the empty sky that was gradually revealing itself.
We just need to hold on for a while longer.
