Chapter 31 Close Encounters

Excitedly snatching the last fragment, and licking her fingers repeatedly with lingering satisfaction, the flower fairy continued her previous topic: "In short, after failing nearly two hundred times, I successfully learned how to open a rift in the shallow void. Then, I spent some time learning how to expand it and create a temporary otherworld within it. But how to stabilize it afterward has been a problem that has troubled me for many years."

...I almost blurted out the word "idiot".

"What about the monks who accepted your request to help?" I asked patiently.

The little guy curled his lip with a very disdainful expression, crossed his arms and angrily denounced: "They're just a bunch of greedy idiots! Morons! They were the ones who came to us in the first place saying they wanted to help, but they just took the funding and didn't do any work! When asked, they said they didn't know anything, and even complained that the research funding wasn't enough, that their other daily tasks were too heavy to finish, that time was too tight and the project was too difficult, and some of them even just took the money in the morning and disappeared by the afternoon! They're all a bunch of useless trash!"

"Why didn't you do something earlier if you had so many excuses!"

She continued cursing and swearing at the air for a while, as if those people were standing in front of her being criticized, before finally stopping. Meanwhile, Shenxue and I were already huddled together eating the snacks we had brought, chatting about what we would do after leaving.

"...In short, that's how it is."

With that, the flower fairy stood in mid-air, hands on her hips, looking down at us, trying to strike a haughty pose: "Do you two guests have any further questions?"

"You've been exposed." I turned my head.

"You still remember we're guests?" Miyuki said sarcastically.

The flower fairy snorted and ignored her, drifting down gracefully: "In short, the duration of my otherworld is almost over. Let's just do what we agreed on before."

"Are you coming back later?"

I exchanged a glance with Miyuki and nodded: "The Sacred Tree Barrier is, after all, our goal for this trip. We still need to understand the current situation there, not to mention that turning back now could lead to danger. In short, after we have largely accomplished our goal of conveying the message, we will continue our journey toward that place."

"Okay, see you then."

The flower fairy nodded, turning to leave as if to depart, but then remembered something and turned back halfway. "Oh, right, here's an easy way for you to contact me." She flew to me, stopping in front of the small pink flower I'd casually slipped into my pocket. She gently touched it, and a flash of brilliant light seemed to appear. Then she nodded and flew away. "Here, I left a backdoor in this flower. After you've delivered your message, just find a spot and plant it in the ground. That'll give you a tool to quickly reach the foot of the Sacred Tree. Hmm, at least it'll last until the city gate. You'll have to walk the rest of the way yourselves."

With a wave of her hand, the flower fairy vanished in an instant, disappearing into the sudden burst of intense light and vanishing without a trace.

At the same time, after a brief pause, a slightly violent tremor came from beneath our feet, and the scene in the [garden] began to tremble, as if the image was distorted and twisted, with occasional frame drops, jumps, and other unknown phenomena, revealing a deep and dark void behind the flickering scene.

"...She just abandoned us like that?"

Shenxue stared in disbelief in the direction the flower fairy had left, her jaw dropping for a moment.

I could only shrug silently: "Since it took her a long time to finally master this, she probably didn't experiment much before, or maybe she didn't try to bring in other sentient beings and get feedback to make adjustments. So she has no idea how to exclude the beings that exist in it... In short, she probably thought that when the otherworld closed, it would automatically spit out the beings inside?"

A hint of fear flickered across Shen Xue's face: "If this otherworldly realm closes down like this, where will we end up?"

The surrounding scenery began to shake more violently, and large cracks began to appear all around, revealing the danger that was gradually approaching.

I smiled silently, gestured for Miyuki to give me her hand, and then grasped it tightly: "Void."

The gray stone slab beneath my feet suddenly cracked and sank, bringing a strong sense of weightlessness. The entire process, from the stone slab starting to crack and make a cracking sound to the alien shell supporting it completely shattering, took only half a second.

As the outer shell was swallowed by the void, cracks spread to every tiny fragment, crushing and devouring them, and we suddenly fell into the void.

This feeling is not pleasant. Being in the void is the same as being in a weightless sea of stars, surrounded by nothingness above and below, where there is no leverage to exert any force.

But this is not empty. Everything in our world is built upon this void. It's just that the barrier used to protect itself is too thick, and most of the light it emits never shines outward. It's like covering an already solid window with a thick, one-way, opaque black film. Although there is a brilliant light shining constantly inside, from the outside you can only see a pitch-black color that blends into the deep darkness, as if everything has been swallowed up in a void.

It's like camouflage used for disguise.

If one had a perspective that could penetrate the void, one might discover that there are countless tiny worlds around us, like stars, twinkling with bright light, as beautiful and sparkling as diamonds, constantly being created and destroyed, releasing all their light and brilliance.
