Chapter 31 Close Encounters

I just happened to run into a kid crying, falling down, and yelling for help when I went out.

Having already experienced being implicated in the commotion caused by Hikari and having to hide from others, I thought I could get some tidbits of information and have some fun this time, but in the blink of an eye, I've been caught in the crossfire again.

To reiterate, next time you should think long-term and not shoot yourself in the foot!

I must find a notebook and write this sentence down, then stick it on the wall, or better yet, keep it right in front of me to remind myself of it all the time.

"...Wait a moment!"

I reached out and blocked the flower fairy from getting any closer: "Didn't you say that you only need to look at that person to know that he is someone who can help? But since you met us, you haven't had any similar feeling, have you? At least I haven't felt it from you."

"Huh, nothing?" The flower fairy seemed easily fooled. "Oh yeah, I don't know what that feeling is either..."

Even though Hikari isn't around, it feels like someone next to me is possessed by her...

Is being an idiot contagious?!

I couldn't help but rub my forehead; I wanted to sigh again.

I feel like I'm sighing more and more often lately. What could be causing this?

“But,” the little one suddenly stopped and turned sharply, almost throwing me off my train of thought, “I feel like there’s something familiar about you.”

"What kind of talk is that?"

The absurdity of the words made me instinctively refute them. I then grabbed the flower fairy, who was tugging at my fingers, sniffing around, and muttering in confusion, by the back of her collar and pulled her up to eye level: "I suggest you think it through before you speak."

“Fairies always speak the truth,” the little guy protested, crossing his arms. “I definitely smelled a familiar scent, especially when you brought your hand closer!”

"What did you do?" Miyuki asked with a questioning look. "Did you ever catch a fairy with that hand?"

I couldn't help but feel a headache coming on. This girl's thoughts often jumped around so much that even I couldn't keep up—at least I didn't understand what she meant by what she just said: "I've never even been to the Holy Tree Stronghold, so how could I have met any ghosts or monsters?"

The flower fairy crossed her arms wide: "Correction! There are currently no fairies who possess the ability to communicate with beings like the legendary ghosts!"

"It's just an exclamation, why are you so serious about explaining the wording in an exclamation... What is all this nonsense?" I rolled my eyes, trying to steer the conversation back on track. "Okay, Flower Fairy, can you be sure what scent you're smelling? Maybe it's something left over from when you used the vines to bring us here."

The flower fairy tilted her head and thought for a second, then shook her head: "Although your guess makes sense, it's not. Rather, the way fairies observe scents is actually different from what you think. Besides the residual scent information that can be easily obtained from the body's surface, what we pay more attention to is the unique energy essence of each individual."

"Unless they belong to the same individual, even if their essence is somewhat similar, there will always be subtle differences. For example, the aura flowing in your body seems very gentle and friendly to me, but the aura surrounding that person over there is like piercing ice, making me want to stay away immediately."

"You mean, magic?"

Blinking, the flower fairy shrank her neck and lifted her foot, narrowly avoiding the sword thrust from the side, and nodded: "I think I've heard someone call me that before."

"But we don't understand it either. We were born knowing how to use it, and we never thought about doing any in-depth research. If we were like those little guys with thick glasses who spend decades poring over a book and still don't understand the content, life would be too boring. We might as well find some new gadgets nearby to pass the time."

I have a feeling that this guy just told a sad story.

I must apologize to those old scholars who have devoted decades to this research!

"So, you feel familiar with my magic..." I thought for a few seconds, then took out a fragment of magic stone from my pocket, "Is it related to this?"

"It's a magic stone!"

The flower fairy was taken aback at first, then cheered and darted out from under my hand, pouncing directly onto the magic stone fragment. She sucked on it a few times before trying to answer my question: "Although it looks similar, it's not."

"To me, that aura, though faint, is much more refreshing, rather than this almost stagnant magic. It feels like... ah! Similar to the Sacred Tree!"

The World Tree? How did it get involved with the World Tree again?

Speaking of the World Tree, I've recently handled two things related to it: one is the beloved wooden comb that the white fox entrusted me to repair, and the other is the paintbrush that [Aisha] has taken up residence in.

Unfortunately, I don't have either of these things with me right now, otherwise I could take them out and let the little one identify them.

“However, if you’re looking for a mage, aren’t there plenty within the Sacred Tree Barrier?” I suddenly had another question. “Besides, while the [Miniature Garden Creation] technique is rather troublesome to learn, it’s not particularly profound. It’s something that can be mastered with a little effort. Don’t you know anyone else who has mastered this technique all these years?”

"No, of course we considered asking for help with such important matters concerning our community, and we even tried to learn about them ourselves, but in the end we were unable to achieve the desired results."

The flower fairy shook her head and took two more sips—speaking of which, this magic stone fragment looked quite large when it was taken out, so how come after these two sips, only a few scraps remained in a short time?! What exactly are this fairy's teeth made of? It's truly a thought-provoking academic question.
