So, the thing I mistook for a waterbed was actually a large monster.
I was taken aback, and then I recalled the time I fainted on it, and the feeling of its coolness with a hint of warmth, its softness with a sense of resistance, as if it wanted to envelop my whole body. I couldn't help but shiver.
Damn it, I was almost eaten without even knowing it!?
So that's why my mentor was laughing so hard!
Although I wanted to complain, there was nothing to say. I can only blame myself for being presumptuous... But who would be so idle as to bring a monster into the workshop and then just sleep on it so openly?! Given my mentor's habit of casually dragging back strange things to tinker with, I really thought it was just a simple waterbed!
Expanding my senses and scrutinizing the scene before me once more, I finally found the source of magic within that translucent, indeterminate body—the source of its monstrous nature. Like scattered fireflies, tiny points of light, emitting a soft glow, were now crowding to one side, converging into a dazzling radiance, attempting to propel the transparent membrane away from the gate.
Then, several hunting dogs suddenly rushed out and dragged me forcefully to my feet, whereupon they raised their paws and pinned me down, preventing me from moving an inch.
I could feel my face twitching involuntarily.
Although these guys are very efficient and have a particularly close, even loyal, attitude towards me and my mentor, they are still lazy and have a habit of not paying attention to their surroundings, which makes it difficult for me to like them.
Take that series of actions just now, for example. They were efficient and swift, but they also smashed a lot of very expensive experimental equipment on the ground. It pained me to see it.
The only saving grace was that most of the accidentally broken experimental equipment had already been cleaned up, and there were no residual liquids or experimental residues inside—thanks to my supervisor's habit of always instructing the vessels to self-clean, which alleviated my worries about unnecessary accidents caused by the interaction of residues. The few overturned bottles and jars mostly contained solid particles that could be exposed to air, such as crystal sand and fluorite; I just needed to be careful to wear gloves when picking them up and avoid direct contact with my skin.
And then, these hunting dogs are just using someone else's power as a shield, right? They only dared to go in because they have someone backing them up, right? Which one was cowering at the door, too afraid to come in? And now, having solved the problem in no time, which one is standing there proudly, strutting around taking credit? Unbelievable! Seeing that I wanted to curse, it deliberately rolled over, whimpering and looking at me with fawning eyes, right?
Do you really think I'd fall for that?!
Yes! I actually ate it.
With a helpless sigh, I touched the necks of the few monsters that had come closer, and repeatedly told them not to wander around and knock over other utensils in the workshop before signaling them to release the monster they were holding down.
If I'm not mistaken, according to the latest version of the "Common Monster Identification Encyclopedia," this should be the most common and lowest-level monster in the wild. Common names include dumpling, big bubble, slime-kun, and unidentified creature without facial features, among others. Its registered scientific name is slime. Although some people are used to calling it Slime, that's not very popular and has gradually fallen out of use.
The cause is the mixture of remnants from the slaughter of numerous monsters. Simply put, it's the special substance that causes biological transformation into monsters. When the host organism dies and isn't dealt with promptly, it accumulates after being secreted, eventually solidifying into a creature. This creature possesses a certain degree of harm and corrosiveness, and if left unchecked, it will multiply and eventually become a plague. It's a low-level monster that's easy to kill but extremely troublesome at its root.
According to the "General Monster Handling Manual," I was planning to drag it to an open area and burn it to ashes. However, perhaps sensing my thoughts from its actions, the slime in front of me suddenly jumped up and fell to the ground at my feet. Then, trembling, it stretched out its limbs and wrapped them around my ankles.
No burning sensation from corrosion was felt.
Looking down with some surprise, I saw that the pale blue liquid inside the transparent body was churning and pulsating, and the thin outer membrane was trembling, as if some kind of change was about to occur, with occasional slight popping sounds.
I was somewhat surprised, but it was still within expectations. Rather, things that interest a professor usually have something special about them.
Surrounded by the hounds and their occasional defiant growls, I dragged the slime, which had soon become completely wrapped around my calves, to the edge of the nearby courtyard wall. After knocking three times and waiting a few breaths, I saw Teacher Gollum, with his familiar pair of large breasts, leaping up in front of me, mimicking the scene of a beautiful woman emerging from the water after a bath.
"Hmm? Why are you coming to see me again, Yumi? Uh..."
Gulu, who emerged from the courtyard wall, had a flippant tone, but after opening his eyes for only a few seconds, his gaze fell on the uneasy, trembling blue ball behind him, and his expression instantly changed. He suddenly leaned back, creating some distance between himself and the ball.
When I finally came to my senses, it let out another slightly over-the-top shriek that almost sent me flying: "So there are other monsters in this academy besides those long-eared cats!"
Very well, it seems that even the one that guards the gate all year round doesn't know.
So now we need to consider whether Gollum neglected his duties, or whether the instructor simply let Gollum through the entrance security check and brought this slime into the academy? Hmm, I guess it's the latter.
