Chapter 74 Suspicion

The little princess readily agreed to the request.

This is not surprising.

The news of the young princess's enrollment was not concealed, and it was likely at the behest of her family that she began to act in a high-profile manner as the future head of the Wan Jin Chamber of Commerce. Naturally, countless people tried to curry favor with her or get closer to her. Not only students, but even teachers often viewed her behavior differently because of this.

As a professor at the academy, and even having briefly taught Grey's courses, it's perfectly normal for Adrian to know about her connection to the Wan Jin Merchant Guild.

Even the most critical person would see this as nothing more than a series of coincidences without concrete evidence.

Making irresponsible guesses will not only prevent you from becoming a famous detective, but may also make you appear as a mentally ill person who is being unreasonable and argumentative, and may even lead to defamation lawsuits.

But I'm not the kind of person who wants to become a famous detective.

All I need to do now is quietly follow Adrian closely, make sure he's always within my sight, and find out exactly what he's up to.

Naturally, after Grey agreed to Adrian's request, she turned her gaze to everyone present, clapped her hands, squinted her eyes, and happily invited everyone to go together.

"I heard from my father that the Chamber of Commerce recently received a batch of rather special goods, as well as some new types of magical artifacts developed by alchemists who collaborate with our family. If we all go together, we might be able to find something useful!"

"Oh, right! There's also the upcoming auction!" The little princess's gaze suddenly turned to me. "Will you be coming too, senior? Don't worry! If you don't have enough money, just tell me! I still have the authority to offer discounts within a certain limit!"

"If it's not too expensive, I can just give it to you as a gift!"

"Isn't this a bit inappropriate...?"

I put on a troubled expression while secretly observing Gray and Adrian's changing demeanor as he claimed he had to leave.

Princess Grey reacted strongly to this, leaning forward and resting her body on the table, her tone carrying a hint of coquetry: "No, you don't have to feel so burdened! If possible, I should even ask you to accept it, senior!"

"It's such a rare opportunity to build a good relationship with Her Majesty the [Witch] and Senior Yumi, who will surely bring a new wave of development opportunities to the mage world in the future. If I mess this up, my family will probably scold me for not handling things well."

"Senior~ Can you bear to see such a beautiful, cute, and rich junior of yours being scolded loudly by her family, having her allowance cruelly cut off, forced to wander the streets, starving and scavenging for leftover food, and finally, unable to bear it any longer, running to your door wrapped in a tattered rag that barely covers her body, begging to be taken in and saying she'd do anything for a bite to eat? Or perhaps you actually prefer this kind of development?"

Compared to all that, simply giving one or two gifts is nothing.

I couldn't help but lean back and express my utter shock.

While it sounds pretty cool to get things for free, girl, you're definitely a bit too rich, aren't you?

And what kind of weird fantasies have you mixed into your imagination about the tragic situation you might face?! It's a completely impossible scenario... Even if you cut off your allowance, you'll still be rich, right? Did you notice that the three people next to you are practically bulging their eyes out?!

Finally, please don't ruin my reputation!

With a slight headache, I pushed the girl who had come close away away. I told her that I would meet at the agreed time and said a brief goodbye to the others who were about to leave. Then I grabbed Ale, who was still engrossed in playing with the weasel, and we fled the scene at high speed.

Faintly, one could hear the girl's soft laughter coming from behind, carrying a hint of smugness and joy after successfully teasing him.

Let whoever wants to do this lousy job do it!

"Oh, so you're not that type after all?"

Then I heard a soft sigh coming from behind me.

Looking at Ale with some doubt, the monster scholar, who had finally broken free from the bewitching state of the weasel, calmly examined me with a regretful expression: "But there's always been that rumor that you tend to be passive, and because you're busy traveling and don't have time to rest or take care of yourself, you prefer the type who takes the initiative and can handle all kinds of housework very well."

"The little princess asked me about this not long ago, and her two friends said she'd made a lot of plans in private. Just now, it seemed like she was launching an attack..."

"It's amazing that such a wonderful girl would fall for you... You're really lucky, my friend."

"No! Where did this rumor come from? Why did I never know about it?!"

To this, Arieh only responded with a mysterious smile, then quickly fled from in front of me before I could explode.

That bastard!

Okay, I have to admit, I'm flattered to be chosen by such a beautiful and wealthy woman, but isn't there something wrong with the criteria? How can you tell that I'm passive or constantly busy? All I want to do is stay home and comfortably play games for days on end!

I'm furious, but I still have to follow Adrian, who hasn't gone far... Why should I waste my time and energy following him! What's so interesting about that jerk! Why do that stupid job of following him for so long and not finding anything out of the ordinary?!
