The college's wrap-up work was simpler than I had imagined.
After breakfast, I rushed to the academy and greeted Gollum, who was already awake for some reason. Gray, whom I had arranged to meet, did not appear at the agreed location, perhaps because it was too early. When I arrived at the place where the Stargazing Tower should be, I did not see the tall tower directly, but was surprised to find that I was surrounded by a group of academy teachers.
"Has something happened?"
I looked around but didn't see any tutors who were probably just being lazy. However, I spotted the dean of the academy at a glance and squeezed through a gap to get closer.
The dean looked like he had just woken up. Although he was still dressed in the stereotypical clothes, he hadn't finished tidying his hair, which was loose and damp and draped over his shoulders.
Good morning, Yumi.
Ms. Juliana spoke first: "As you can see, a rather serious accident has occurred here. Just at dawn, the observatory where Professor Adrian usually resides was pushed down by some force. We are currently conducting a rescue operation, and while confirming the cause of the accident, we also want to check if there is any material that can be reused."
I nodded to indicate that I understood.
However, at dawn... was that when that unknown man came to raid my little garden? Was he inside the observatory at that time?
I pulled the dean aside to a side a little further away from the crowd and briefly explained the matter to her.
After removing anything related to Lena's authority and omitting some information from the previous timeline, and with some polishing, the final story sounds like a verbal battle between me and that person in the miniature garden. Although there are still many loopholes that would be easily exposed if scrutinized repeatedly, they are actually not a big deal.
Of course, I also mentioned the organization the other party might belong to.
After listening, the dean remained silent for a long time, his gaze fixed on the busy pile of rubble in the distance.
The summoned golems easily lifted stones larger than themselves and placed them aside, piling them up neatly on the open ground. A few teachers, confident in their control and magical reserves, followed suit, using enlarged magic circles to wrap smaller stones and carefully filling the gaps in the pile of stones.
"I see."
She nodded with difficulty, her stiff spine moving as if one could hear the creaking of a door hinge lacking lubrication: "I will be responsible for sending people to investigate the Wisdom of the Stars, and submit the relevant report to the academic community after it is compiled. However, if what you say is true, the most urgent matter right now may still be the monster that may exist below the Star Observation Tower."
"Were there no monsters when the Star Gazing Tower collapsed?"
Although I didn't see any monster corpses nearby, I still asked one out of concern.
Juliana shook her head: "No. According to Professor Coles, who was the first to wake up, he first heard a tremendous roar that shook the earth, and then a gray-black figure quickly darted into the air, collided violently with the academy's defensive barrier, and disappeared in a flash of lightning."
Professor Coles is the one in the academy who loves sunbathing the most.
"It must have been quite a commotion back then."
I suddenly understood why Gulu, who usually dawdles until eight or nine o'clock before starting work, woke up so early.
Just in case, I asked again: "Has Professor Coles confirmed the true identity of that shadow?"
If someone were struck by the lightning attached to the academy's defensive barrier, regardless of any lasting effects, they would certainly be paralyzed for five minutes. That's enough time for our skeletal teacher to summon an undead scourge that would fill the entire academy grounds.
"Nothing was found." The dean stated the conclusion directly, then added a guess, "If I'm not mistaken, it should be the person who attacked you."
At this point, she belatedly realized what was happening, pulled me around, and looked me up and down: "Yumi, are you alright? Are you hurt? Luckily, I brought the teacher from the academy who is in charge of treatment with me, so we can give you some basic first aid."
"Don't worry too much, Dean."
I quickly stopped her from reaching under my clothes—I don't know who she learned it from, but Ms. Juliana sometimes unconsciously makes similar careless moves as casually lifting up a young boy's clothes to check him out—even though I know it's well-intentioned, it's still irresistible.
I repeatedly reassured the academy headmaster, whose face was filled with anxiety: "Please rest assured, academy headmaster. I also know reliable healers, and I wasn't alone during the battle. Apart from some damage to the outer walls of the miniature garden, I myself was not seriously injured."
"But, isn't it said that forces from the abyss are also involved? It's hard to guarantee that..."
"If such a problem really occurred, I think the professor would be even more anxious to rush out, right? But look, the professor is still fast asleep and refuses to budge at all."
Ignoring the embarrassed and annoyed slap on the back of his head, the headmaster finally calmed down after hearing the logical analysis, and the tension on his face eased slightly.
Just then, a few brief exclamations came from the excavation team in the distance.
Without having time to say anything more, the academy headmaster hurried toward the scene, only to find the tower's wall remnants swaying precariously. It seemed that the attempt to remove the large fragment at the top had caused the smaller pieces on either side to be pinned down, barely maintaining a precarious balance, and they were showing signs of slipping and falling.
