Fortunately, the two teachers in charge of cleaning up the scene worked together well, which helped stabilize the golem in time. A new teacher also joined in the cleanup after learning about the situation, which prevented a possible subsequent collapse.
"That's really dangerous."
The headmistress shook her head and patted her chest reassuringly. Her expertise lay more in large-scale, expansive control techniques, particularly in using condensed ice shards to pierce, destroy, or construct terrain. However, she wasn't skilled in civil engineering work that required delicate manipulation, and would often be more of a hindrance than a help.
After repeatedly instructing me to seek medical attention if I felt unwell, she briefly spoke with the few people working there, gave them some instructions, and then handed over the responsibility of on-site supervision to her assistant before dispersing and leaving with the other teachers who were watching.
This is already the preparation time before a regular class.
Although an accident occurred here, it's not an excuse to skip class. If idle students are allowed to wander around and get into trouble, the problem will only get bigger. The dean also has a series of tasks to complete and can't just stand here wasting time.
Furthermore, given the previous incident of the observatory collapse, the academy's practical activities need to be postponed to ensure the safety of the remaining two activities. This also requires alternative arrangements.
Grey must have heard something, because she rushed over with breakfast before class. After confirming that the situation here was still unclear, she didn't say much and hurriedly left with an extra breakfast before the bell rang for the first class.
The work of cleaning up the debris was finally completed before lunch. During this time, one teacher left in a hurry to teach, and although the rest of the team continued to work hard, they could not withstand the drain of the magic power. They had to take breaks to recover, and after a short rest, they could only lend a hand to do some auxiliary work.
Only the golem silently continued its hauling work, without complaint despite the scorching heat of the sky.
Standing at the edge of the hole, exposed after all the collapsed rubble had been removed, everyone looked at each other in bewilderment.
Contrary to initial expectations, what was revealed after the tower fragments were removed was not the scene of scattered debris and remains, nor even the individual workshops with corpses lying in pools of blood, nor the precarious life-saving barrier constructed of solid foundations and walls. Instead, a huge pit was revealed, with a large amount of rubble piled up beneath it.
"How could there be such a large underground laboratory within the academy?"
A teacher murmured, and his question was shared by everyone present.
Because the academy contains a small, sealed dungeon, no one is generally willing to venture deep underground, fearing that they might accidentally create a basement that borders the edge of the dungeon, releasing any monsters that might be inside. Even when digging the foundation, they are always cautious to ensure that they do not touch any areas that might be structurally unstable.
Ms. Juliana's assistant had already hurriedly made contact. The remaining few people present discussed it amongst themselves and confirmed that they all still had a small amount of physical strength and magic power left, so they were not afraid and decided to go and explore together.
I was naturally happy to sneak in and take a look. At the same time, I became certain that the strange monster I had seen earlier had indeed emerged from this underground experiment.
The underground space of the observatory is much larger than the surface space, connected only by small steps that protrude along the edge, which may be due to the previous collapse of the tower. The deep entrance passage is about three or four people high, and then gradually opens up to reveal a huge, strictly designed experimental space extending westward.
There was little firelight; the rough stone walls and pillars in the darkness were inlaid with quartz and moonstone, still in an active state. The long experimental table was crammed with numerous ores of unknown use and a large quantity of magic stones, interspersed with a few rare metal ores. A few documents were neatly stored in locked cabinets beside the corridor. Walking a short distance further in and around the dividing stone walls, rows of experimental chambers gleaming with a faint green light could be clearly seen.
"……What's this?"
The teachers looked around in shock, occasionally picking up the ore on the table and tapping it, or approaching the capsule to try and confirm the identity of the dark figure inside.
I couldn't help but feel a headache coming on.
The familiar scene evoked memories from more than a year ago.
Damn it, another chimera.
Although not every cabin contained an object, there was no doubt that what was placed in that bright green, highly concentrated life concentrate was a chimera cultivated from a mixture of various magical creatures.
Whether it's the centipede-like monster with huge pincers, the emaciated ape with its unbalanced body and giant arms, or the typical hybrid of beast, bird, and snake that we've seen before, they all clearly indicate the purpose of the research experiments here.
It's hard to imagine how many people are still lurking beneath the surface, continuing this research, even though so much time has passed.
No wonder my mentor told me to join; it seems this is the time I've been waiting for.
But that's not something we need to think about right now.
The most important thing I need to do right now is to clear all these irrelevant people out of the area.
With great reluctance, I took the key out of my collar, held it up to eye level, and cleared my throat to attract everyone's attention.
"This is declared in the name of Yumi, the only disciple of the [Omniscient Witch]."
I tried my best to keep a blank expression, otherwise I felt I would be embarrassed to death: "From this moment on, I will take over everything here. Everyone present must sign the [Covenant of Oblivion] before leaving, and do their best to keep this place a secret and prevent leaks."
