When her cousin was mentioned, Jiang Shuya smiled. She knew why her cousin had such great motivation later on, just to get closer to someone. Her cousin loved the man in front of her but couldn't have him, but it was also because of him that she later broke through herself and had a better future. Based on her understanding of her cousin, she knew that when she fell in love with something, she would go all out, even if she only got a little closer and was shattered to pieces, she would still try.
She was fearless from a young age, always hanging out with a group of boys. Raised at her maternal grandparents' house, she was spoiled and pampered by them, which fostered her rebellious personality. Before high school, she was her uncle's most troublesome daughter. When she took the high school entrance exam, she didn't get into the top high school, so she asked her uncle to spend money to get her into the best high school, satisfying her vanity.
Two bowls of wontons were served. Jiang Shuya's mouth watered at the sight of the meaty wontons that looked like flowers. She picked up a spoon and ate them in big bites, not even noticing how hot they were.
"It's too hot, eat slowly." Lin Moxiao frowned.
She shook her head and said, "It's only comforting and warming when it's hot. You eat it, this soup is delicious."
Lin Moxiao took a bite, nodded repeatedly, abandoning his refined and gentle image, and served the crispy and tender potstickers one spoonful at a time. The golden oil sizzled and the aroma instantly filled the whole room.
Neither of them spoke, and they tacitly and heartily devoured the food in front of them.
Jiang Shuya thought for a while, paused, and said, "Actually, I'm quite grateful to you. You're the one who made my cousin become as outstanding as she is today."
Lin Moxiao looked at her with a puzzled expression: "What do you mean by that?"
Seeing that she didn't speak, Lin Moxiao quickly realized: "Actually, you're not bad either, it's just a pity that you missed the college entrance examination back then."
Jiang Shuya was silent for a moment, then said softly, "Yes, I missed out, but I don't think it's a pity. God wasn't on my side, but I won't complain about the unfairness of fate. I'm quite satisfied with my current life as an ordinary citizen, but the people around me are living better than me, and I'm genuinely happy for them. I don't feel inferior, and I'm not jealous."
Lin Moxiao shook her head and said calmly, "I have a feeling this isn't the life you want. You may like it here now, but you don't belong here."
Suddenly seeing through her, Jiang Shuya felt a strange sadness in her heart. What could she do? This was her choice back then, and she couldn't blame anyone. Even if she failed miserably, she had to put on that disguised armor and try her best to protect herself.
She quickly finished a bowl of wontons, then ate a few potstickers, wiped her mouth contentedly, and called the waiter to pack another serving of potstickers.
Seeing that she had bought another serving, Lin Moxiao couldn't help but ask in confusion, "Is this your lunch?"
Jiang Shuya said calmly, "No, I'm going to visit Sun Qi at the hospital later. His injuries are quite serious, and he should like to eat this."
Lin Moxiao: "I'll drive you there!"
Jiang Shuya shook her head: "No need. You stayed up all night last night. You should go home and rest early! Don't worry about me. I owe you too much and I won't be able to repay you."
Lin Moxiao frowned slightly: "You really don't want anything to do with me? You don't want to owe me anything?"
Silence fell for a moment. Jiang Shuya didn't dare to look up at him, afraid that she would feel uneasy for the rest of her life because she owed him so much.
Perhaps sensing her worry, he stood up and said, "Let's go! I'll take you to see Sun Qi."
Just as the two stood up, a familiar figure walked in. Jiang Shuya's eyes seemed to be stung, and she quickly turned away.
The newcomer was Zhang Yongzhen. In fact, she had already seen Jiang Shuya. Seeing that Jiang Shuya's clothes looked like she had just finished a fight somewhere, she became even more curious. Jiang Shuya, seeing that she couldn't avoid her, didn't want to get entangled with her, so she picked up her takeout box and prepared to leave. Unexpectedly, Zhang Yongzhen spoke in a mocking tone: "Oh, isn't this the beautiful lady across the hall from my house? Her clothes look like a spiky ball. Where did she get up? Her husband is never home, so she can move around freely, going wherever she wants. She can't stand being alone, and since no one cares, she's very carefree."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Shuya was furious. She glanced at the unfinished potstickers in front of her and asked Lin Moxiao, "Are you still going to eat these?"
Lin Moxiao shook her head, somewhat puzzled.
Jiang Shuya picked up the potstickers and placed them in front of Zhang Yongzhen, giving her a wicked smile: "Since you're from the same neighborhood, I'll treat you to potstickers today. Huang Minghao and I are husband and wife, so if I'm treating, it's his treat. If he were here, seeing you would make him lose his appetite, but just looking at the food would fill him up."
Zhang Yongzhen sat up like an angry bird and then mocked, "So what if you succeeded by using underhanded means? He'll still go around badmouthing you, disliking you, and hating you."
Jiang Shuya scoffed: "Really? Do you want to see the text messages he sent me? He begged me, he loves me, he misses me, he only wants me. No matter what methods I used back then, it takes two to tango. He got on my boat, so what? I'm the one who married him. He swore to God that he would only love me for the rest of his life. Did he ever say that to you? You're risking your life's happiness to spite him. You're the stupid one. Huang Minghao ran away to a remote place to avoid you. What does that prove? You vent all your hatred on me. Why don't you look at your own reasons?"
Jiang Shuya touched a nerve, and Zhang Yongzhen retorted quickly: "You think that just because you're good-looking, you have all those advantages? You're sorely mistaken. He once said that you're stuck in your ways, boring, dull, and uninteresting. He's already lost interest in you."
Jiang Shuya almost burst out laughing, her face full of confidence: "You're right, I'm just relying on my looks, why wouldn't he love me? How could he refuse me? You're angry, aren't you! He said he likes me to take the initiative, so what? You took the initiative too, why is he ignoring you?"
That's enough.
Lin Moxiao, who was sitting next to her, suddenly stood up. Her eyes were filled with grief and anger, and a hint of coldness flashed in them. Her beautiful face was full of forbearance, and her deep eyes, under her tightly furrowed brows, revealed unspeakable pain.
"I'm going back now. Good luck." Lin Moxiao said before turning and leaving.
Zhang Yongzhen gloated: "Hehe, look, your despicable face has exposed your true nature. Even the man who was eating with you couldn't stand it anymore. The man from earlier was clearly a gentleman with an extraordinary temperament, as pure as the moon. How could he associate with such a vulgar person as you?"
Jiang Shuya snorted twice, asked the waiter to pack up the potstickers in front of her, and stopped arguing with the person in front of her. She paid and left the snack shop.
Thinking she needed to get home quickly to change her clothes, she quickened her pace. As she passed Jiangdao Square, she glanced at the parking area, but the car was no longer there. She sighed and said, "Lin Moxiao, I'm just an ordinary woman from the streets. I hope you won't come looking for me again. This is how I interact with people in my daily life. I'm showing it to you, and you definitely won't accept it. I swear I won't cause you any more trouble. Only by not seeing you can I feel at peace."
