On Lunar New Year's Eve, every household in Xixia Village was filled with joy, hanging lanterns and decorations, pasting Spring Festival couplets, and setting off firecrackers. Early in the morning, Tangtang was wearing a bright red onesie down jacket, which was particularly delightful.
Jiang Shuya couldn't help but feel puzzled. It seemed that she had never bought her such clothes before. In her opinion, this outfit should be from the brand "Baby King".
Could it be that her mother-in-law bought it? I can hardly believe it. Come to think of it, it seems that her own grandmother has never bought her a single piece of clothing before. It's like the sun has risen in the west.
Seeing her mother-in-law busily preparing the New Year's Eve dinner and instructing the old man to do this and that, Jiang Shuya simply took Tangtang and strolled around outside.
As soon as she stepped outside, she saw Old Mrs. Wang from next door squatting in the corner, drinking porridge. When she saw Jiang Shuya, the old lady stood up with a smile.
"Wow, Tangtang looks so good in that outfit! It makes her skin look so fair. Looks like my Erya has good taste."
"Ah! Did your second daughter buy this?" Jiang Shuya asked.
Grandma Wang wiped her mouth, glanced around, and muttered to herself.
"Yes, my daughter-in-law and I were having a fight. Your mother-in-law is such a gossip; it got back to my daughter-in-law. So, Er Ya bought some for my granddaughter too, and that finally calmed things down."
Jiang Shuya finally understood. Wang Erya's gift was also a token of gratitude. Suddenly, she could understand why Wang Erya, living at her parents' home, had to bow her head under their eaves.
Suddenly, a basin of water was splashed, almost hitting Jiang Shuya. It landed right at her feet. Tangtang in her arms stared wide-eyed at the person. Jiang Shuya instinctively dodged, but the water still splashed onto her trouser legs.
"Zhang Yongzhen, you did this on purpose." Jiang Shuya was furious.
Cao Gang, who was pasting Spring Festival couplets on the door frame of the main house in the yard, looked back and frowned. He knew that his wife was going to cause trouble again, so he picked up the phone and made a call.
"Jiang Shuya, open your eyes and look around! This is my front door. I can splash as much water as I want; it's none of your business!"
Zhang Yongzhen rolled her eyes with disdain and said, "Today is Lunar New Year's Eve, and it's really unlucky to have such an inauspicious star appear first thing in the morning."
Old Mrs. Wang, who was standing to the side, couldn't stand it anymore;
"Cao family daughter-in-law, you threw water, fine, but why curse them? They're a perfectly fine family, how can you talk such nonsense about them?"
"Aunt Wang, you should go home and take care of your own affairs. Don't meddle here."
As Zhang Yongzhen spoke, she glared fiercely at Jiang Shuya. Seeing that Jiang Shuya had put down Tangtang and was walking towards her, she put her hands on her hips and said menacingly.
"Want to make a move? Come on, I've been waiting for the perfect opportunity. Today I'm going to tear you apart, you slut."
Seeing this, Grandma Wang quickly pulled Jiang Shuya aside, shook her head, and whispered;
"Xiaoya, it's the New Year, don't let things get unpleasant. She's so big, you'll get hurt."
Jiang Shuya glanced gratefully at Old Mrs. Wang and smiled.
"Aunt Wang, there's no escaping her. She's disliked me for a long time."
Grandma Wang still clung tightly to her, but then Wang Hongjuan appeared behind her and forcefully pulled her away.
"Mom, the Spring Festival couplets haven't been put up yet. Dad wants you to come and make some paste, and also get out the lanterns you bought yesterday."
After Wang Hongjuan finished speaking, she smiled and looked at Zhang Yongzhen, completely ignoring Jiang Shuya, and forcibly dragged the old lady Wang home.
"Jiang Shuya, go ahead and do it. I'm waiting. I want to see who protects you today. With your small frame, don't blame me for being ruthless."
Zhang Yongzhen looked defiant, while Cao Gang behind her didn't care at all about his wife's arrogance.
At that moment, a deep and cold voice came from behind:
"Am I qualified enough to protect her today?"
Huang Minghao, his eyes still sleepy, walked over with one hand in his pocket, looking at Zhang Yongzhen with a roguish air about him on his handsome face.
When Zhang Yongzhen saw that it was Huang Minghao, she stood there dumbfounded and stammered;
"When did you get back?"
Huang Minghao relaxed, glanced at Tangtang who was squatting on the ground playing, and then hugged Jiang Shuya and teased her.
"What? I'm back, and you expect me to report to you? Looks like you have a huge grudge against my wife! Let me see how you're going to hit her."
Zhang Yongzhen was clearly flustered. She knew that this man was the most capable fighter in Xixia Village, and even her own cousin was no match for him.
He then tilted his head, forcing a smile, and stammered, "You misheard me. I wasn't going to fight her. It's just a misunderstanding."
Seeing Zhang Yongzhen's instantly cowardly expression, Jiang Shuya felt bored. She pushed Huang Minghao aside, walked to Tangtang's side, bent down to pick her up, and gave Zhang Yongzhen a cold laugh; "You two can chat slowly, I'm not keeping you company."
Cao Gang saw Huang Minghao approach him familiarly, offering him a cigarette and greeting him. The two quickly began chatting casually.
Standing to the side, Zhang Yongzhen saw the man she had once been so devoted to right in front of her, and felt a deep sense of loss.
Time flies, and several years have passed. I've already let go of the past. Actually, my current choice is better. Cao Gang is very obedient to her, and there are no trivial matters at home for her to worry about. He always tries to sit in the front. The only flaw of such a man is that he's not good-looking enough.
She has been married to Huang Minghao's family for two years now, and after getting to know them, she feels lucky.
Fortunately, Huang Minghao rejected her back then. The thought that he rejected her because of Jiang Shuya made her resentful. This resentment took root in her heart, causing her to lose face and making it impossible for her to greet Jiang Shuya with a smile no matter what.
Jiang Shuya, who was tidying up her bookshelves at home, piled the books she had moved out yesterday onto the living room sofa. In one of the shelves, she found a lot of letters.
Actually, she knew before, but thought it was something very important to Huang Minghao, so she didn't pay much attention to it. Yesterday, when that stack of letters fell down, she accidentally discovered that some of them were from Cao Fang. As long as the letters about Cao Fang hadn't been opened, it was clear that Huang Minghao didn't care.
Jiang Shuya knew this person well; she had admired Huang Minghao since school, but it was just Cao Fang's wishful thinking and a minor incident. However, there was an anonymous letter inside.
The letters were all open. Jiang Shuya took one out and glanced at it. The name was Ren Jing. Based on the intimate content in the letter, Jiang Shuya deduced that this person might be Huang Minghao's girlfriend of three years.
Driven by curiosity and a desire to give an explanation to his past self, he read through all the letters related to Ren Jing.
The letters revealed that Huang Minghao had proactively replied to many of Ren Jing's letters, personally visited her home, and received her parents' approval.
However, the clues run cold in the last letter. That letter was noticeably thicker than the others, and when it was pulled out, a 7-inch photograph fell out.
