Chapter 1 Crossing the Apocalypse

Chapter 1 Crossing the Apocalypse

When Su Yun woke up, he found himself lying on a patch of green grass. Looking around, he saw overgrown weeds and an unfamiliar environment.

What's going on?

Su Yun was a little confused. She subconsciously hugged the backpack to her chest, which contained all her belongings. She was going camping and had brought camping equipment, a lighter, a flint and steel, a flashlight, a power bank, a sleeping mat, a sleeping bag, biscuits and snacks, a change of clothes, and some emergency medicines.

Wasn't she in the car on her way to camping?

How did I suddenly end up lying here?

This weekend, the company organized a team-building activity: camping in the mountains. They were on the bus heading to the mountains when, in the blink of an eye, all her colleagues disappeared, leaving her alone in this strange place.

She tried to search her memory and vaguely remembered that the bumpy ride on the mountain road had made her fall asleep in a daze. Then she was suddenly awakened by a huge crash. She heard her colleagues screaming in terror. She tried to open her eyes to see what had happened, but was thrown out by the huge impact and eventually fell into an even deeper sleep.

Then, after an unknown amount of time, she finally woke up and found herself here.

She checked her hazy memory, and if nothing was wrong, the bus must have been in an accident. Was she already dead?

She panicked and quickly checked herself. There were no injuries, and everything was fine.

Then I touched my heart, and thankfully, it was still in my chest, beating strongly. I checked my breathing, and yes, I was still breathing.

Looking at myself again, I saw no signs of injury whatsoever.

Is this—a dream?

So she steeled herself and pinched herself hard. "Ouch, that really hurts! Looks like it wasn't a dream after all."

She took out her phone to call 110, but found that there was no signal at all.

What's going on?

She was puzzled.

She sat up from the ground in a daze, then found a relatively high place and looked around.

Standing on the small mound and looking out, Su Yun noticed that the sky here was exceptionally blue, and the vegetation was exceptionally lush, a vibrant and lively scene.

The scenery here is just like it was a long, long time ago, when I was a child living in the countryside, before everything was polluted.

Back then, the mountains were green, the water was blue, and the sky was as vast and azure as it is now, like a pure sapphire. The grass was just as green and lush as it is now...

Despite the lush vegetation, it was unusually quiet.

It was eerily quiet.

There are many plants and insects here, but it seems like there are no people.

Su Yun looked around for a while before realizing that this vibrant green exuded an incongruous sense of desolation.

this……

This is so weird...

The unfamiliar scenery and sense of disharmony told her that something was wrong here; it was completely different from the city she lived in.

At first glance, this place seems very primitive, vibrant, and natural, but if you look closely, you'll find something unusual. For example, the grass under her feet isn't grass at all, but a solid concrete road.

If it weren't for the suddenly bulging cement block, she would hardly have been able to tell.

This is actually a highway.

Was she originally lying on a highway?

But can this still be called a highway?

The traces of cement have been covered by weeds. The original cement road is cracked in patches. The entire road surface has long been weathered and cracked, and the road body is dilapidated. Clumps of green wild grass keep growing out of the cracks, covering the original stone surface of the road.

This is very abnormal.

Su Yun looked up into the distance. The surrounding area was lush with vegetation, yet traces of the former city were still faintly visible: broken road signs, collapsed road markers, damaged railings...

Lush vegetation thus flourished atop the city's decay.

There's a sense of desolation and unease permeating the place.

Looking at all this unfamiliar surroundings, a strange thought popped into her mind: "Could this... be a time traveler...?"

Su Yun recalled the last impact and sleep in her dream.

I think this is the most likely possibility.

However, this didn't seem like a good place. Looking at the dilapidated road and the lush wilderness, Su Yun suddenly felt uneasy.

She forced herself to calm down.

Faced with an unfamiliar environment and an unknown situation, at least she had a backpack. Since she was going camping, the backpack was fairly well-equipped and could handle the current situation.

Well, since we're already here, let's take a look around.

Su Yun sighed, looked around, bent down and took out a fruit knife from his backpack. He walked to the roadside, chose a thick and handy branch, cut it down, and used it as a probe and weapon. Then he used a rope and belt to fix the fruit knife to his belt in case of emergency.

Regardless, let's try to find someone to ask about the situation first.

Su Yun looked around again. The surrounding area was unusually lush and barren. There was hardly anyone around, and he didn't know where to find someone to ask about the situation.

"Let's just walk along the road. Maybe we can get into the city and ask someone for directions."

So she set off alone along the dilapidated road.

It was probably early spring here. The trees on both sides of the road had sprouted tender green buds, and the light green layers were intertwined. They rustled in the breeze and gave off a spring-like feeling.

If it weren't for the strangely dilapidated roads and the excessively lush trees, the green mountains and blue skies along the way would have been quite a sight to behold.

Su Yun, who is usually busy working in concrete and steel office buildings, can't remember the last time she saw such beautiful natural scenery.

Her daily life revolved around the same routine: going from the company to her cramped rented apartment. Her busy work schedule, the oppressive and tense relationships with her colleagues, and the stressful life made her feel suffocated. She had almost forgotten the small mountain village of her childhood, the clear streams and green trees there. So when the company organized this camping trip, she happily signed up, thinking she could relax from the pressure of work. But unexpectedly, she was transported here by a car accident.

I can finally relax now, sigh.

Su Yun sighed, feeling uneasy but also a little relieved. She was uneasy because she had been walking for more than an hour and had not seen any signs of human activity, but relieved because she finally had a reason to get rid of that damn job and life.

Anyway, I don't have to go to work anymore. Recalling the last collision sound, I guess I can't go back this time. Sigh, since it's already like this, there's an old saying, what else can I do but go and see?

Su Yun couldn't help but sigh again, and tried her best to walk forward along the road.

After walking for about two more hours, the sun rose higher and higher, and it seemed to be noon.

The early spring sun wasn't supposed to be very strong, but after walking for so long, her body, which hadn't been exercising for a long time, quickly became tired. She felt exhausted and weak, covered in sweat, which made her feel sticky and smelly, and she was also hungry and thirsty...

But all she has right now is a bottle of water, a pack of compressed dry food, a pack of biscuits, two packs of instant noodles, and two hams.

If she saves this food, it should be enough to last her for two or three days, so she has to be as frugal as possible until she finds someone or a place to stay.

Two more hours passed, but still nothing was found. Finally, after walking for three hours...

A dilapidated tollbooth appeared at the end of the road, next to which stood a run-down two-story building, and a few figures could be vaguely seen swaying in the distance.

Seeing a glimmer of hope, Su Yun instantly felt energized, as if she'd been injected with adrenaline. She gripped the stick and took a few quick steps, running towards the spot. Before she even got close, she waved and greeted them warmly, "Hello! Excuse me, where is this place? I've gotten lost..."

Unexpectedly, the two "people" in front of her heard her shout and turned their heads in unison to look at her. Then, in a strange and eerie manner, they swayed and walked towards her.

Su Yun watched from afar, a sense of unease creeping into her heart. Her cheerful, skipping steps gradually slowed until the two figures drew closer, at which point she could finally make out their presence.

The smile on Su Yun's face froze the moment she saw who it was.

Because the two men were slowly twisting their bodies in a contorted position that no human could achieve, opening their viscous mouths to face her, emitting hoarse roars, and lunging at her...

The word "zombie" immediately assaulted Su Yun's mind.

"Damn it!" Su Yun exclaimed, instantly forgetting his fatigue and sweat. His body unleashed astonishing athleticism, and he fled the highway maintenance station at the speed of light.

"Ahhhhh!" After running for an unknown amount of time, Su Yun finally dared to look back.

Seeing that the two zombies didn't seem to be following, Su Yun finally breathed a sigh of relief...

"That's terrifying!!! What the hell!" After running for a while, Su Yun was exhausted and leaned against the wooden stick, panting heavily.

After a series of heavy breaths, Su Yun, slowly recovering, clutched her wildly beating heart and finally realized a serious problem: she seemed to have really transmigrated!

And it seems like I've been transported to the apocalypse.

...It's still a post-apocalyptic world with zombies...

No wonder this highway is in such a dilapidated state, no wonder there's no one here.

The end of the world...

Two lines of clear tears streamed down Su Yun's face. Ah, she thought to herself, why am I so unlucky?

Wasn't it supposed to be that transmigrating meant having a cheat code and living an amazing life? How come she ended up so miserable?

Su Yun's heart sank. Although she really didn't want to go to work, she also really didn't want to fight zombies...

She turned back in terror to look at the patch of weeds behind her. Seeing that the zombies weren't following, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. Clutching her pounding heart, she gazed sadly at the unknown wilderness ahead, feeling utterly desolate. Ah! This is the apocalypse!

There are zombies too!

What should we do?!

*Sobbing*
