Chapter 2 Finding an Unconscious Orc
So what if you've been transported to a post-apocalyptic world?
Going back to work? There's no way I'll ever go back to work in this lifetime. The zombies here are terrifying and scary-looking, and I can't beat them. I can only bypass that maintenance station and continue exploring this unfamiliar land.
Knowing that this was a post-apocalyptic world infested with zombies, Su Yun dared not rush forward recklessly this time. She became extra cautious, using a stick to push aside the waist-high grass as she walked forward. Apart from grasshoppers and butterflies flying up, she could occasionally hear the rustling sounds of small animals running away.
There seem to be a lot of insects and small animals running around here, which proves that there shouldn't be any large predators around, and everything is still normal.
Su Yun had just suddenly seen the zombies when he panicked and ran for his life, only stopping after running a considerable distance.
Although the zombies didn't follow, unfortunately, Su Yun lost his bearings for a while.
She appears to have run off the road and into the nearby woods.
Looking around at the relatively simple terrain, there were no big mountains, only a few rolling small hills.
Su Yun calmed down and thought, "Well, if the maintenance station is built here, there must be a small village nearby where I can stay."
Su Yun thought about it carefully. If this were a zombie apocalypse, with so many people in big cities, there would be many zombies, and the situation wouldn't be good. She would also likely encounter some ill-intentioned people. Perhaps a small village would be more suitable for her.
She was now almost exhausted, tired and thirsty, and needed to find a place to stay. This apocalypse was too dangerous, and spending the night in the wild was not a good option.
It would be better to find a small mountain village nearby to settle down.
Su Yun made plans in his mind, then cheered himself up and continued walking forward.
It was the middle of the day, and about half an hour later, Su Yun, drenched in sweat, climbed over two more hills of varying sizes. The wild grass gradually thinned out, and the grass in front of him seemed to have become much flatter, with patches that vaguely resembled fields that had once been there.
Hmm? If this area is all farmland, then the village must be nearby.
Su Yun squatted down and looked closely, and could still find a few scattered green vegetables stubbornly surviving among the weeds.
Seeing a trace of human habitation, Su Yun breathed a slight sigh of relief. If he could find a village tonight, at least he wouldn't have to sleep in the wilderness, even though he hadn't encountered any particularly terrifying creatures along the way...
So Su Yun carefully discerned the wild grass and struggled along the field ridge that was almost blending into the weeds. After more than an hour of difficult walking, he finally arrived at the country road.
Su Yun stood on a large rock by the roadside, looking around and trying hard to discern the direction.
Everywhere you look, there is a lush green landscape.
However, the shades of green vary in intensity and density.
Throughout history, humans have been accustomed to living near water. Villages are mostly built near streams and rivers, and where there is water, trees and grasses tend to be more lush.
Su Yun stood on high ground, gazing into the distance. He quickly identified a patch of the densest, deepest greenery, roughly confirmed the direction, and walked towards that greenest grove. Half an hour later…
Su Yun heard the sound of flowing water and knew she had found the right direction.
A surge of excitement welled up inside me, and I quickened my pace, running forward. Sure enough, after rounding the earthen slope and turning a corner...
A clear stream came into view.
The river water shimmered and sparkled under the sun, and small fish could be seen swimming happily in it. Looking at the fish and thinking that her dinner for the night was settled, Su Yun continued to walk along the river with cheerful steps. After turning a corner, a lovely little village came into view.
From a distance, the village doesn't look very big, with a dozen or so scattered houses, all of them with courtyards and blue-tiled roofs, most of which are quite dilapidated.
Having learned from the experience of the highway maintenance station, Su Yun first observed from a distance for a long time, but found no signs of human or zombie activity. So she carefully bypassed the front of the village and entered from the side.
Will the villages really have fewer zombies in this apocalypse, just as she predicted?
With a sense of unease, Su Yun gripped the wooden stick tightly, took a deep breath, and carefully checked the fruit knife one last time before cautiously stepping into the village to begin his exploration.
She walked very lightly and slowly, afraid of disturbing some monster. She first slowly circled the village, which was very dilapidated, dusty and old everywhere.
Su Yun carefully walked around, but did not find any signs of zombies or human activity.
So they began to slowly explore each courtyard. After all, it was better to be prepared for danger during the day than to face it at night.
She cautiously pushed open the courtyard gates one by one with a stick, just in case a twisted, blood-red maw suddenly rushed out from behind them.
Some courtyards had their gates wide open, while others had their doors locked. She ignored the locked doors, figuring that even if there were zombies, they couldn't get out anyway. Most of the courtyards were messy and overgrown with weeds. She would only stand at the gate for a few minutes to make sure there was no danger before leaving.
After checking around, Su Yun found that the village seemed quite desolate, with no people but also no zombies, which was a relatively good situation. So he slowly followed his memory and found a house that looked fairly sturdy before.
Su Yun gently pushed open the door with a stick, afraid that a zombie might suddenly burst out from inside. Seeing that the door remained quiet after it opened, he felt relieved and went inside.
The yard was spacious, but it was overgrown with weeds, and things were scattered haphazardly, covered in dust and dirt. I don't know how long it had been, but after being exposed to the wind and sun, most of them were no longer usable.
After passing through the weeds, they arrived at the main house. The door was slightly ajar. It was still early, and the hall was fairly bright. Inside, there was an eight-immortal table covered in dust. Everything seemed normal. The dust was thick, and there were no signs of any biological activity. After observing for a long time, Su Yun finally mustered up his courage, gripped the wooden stick tightly, and carefully walked in.
To the left of the spacious hall is a room, very spacious, which should be the master bedroom, but it has been uninhabited for a long time and is covered with dust and cobwebs.
There is another room to the right of the hall, and judging from the decorations, it should be a child's room.
Further on is a passageway leading to the back hall, where there seem to be a few more rooms.
Everything seemed to be in the right place.
As she walked into the dark part of the passage and was about to turn back, she suddenly smelled a very faint scent of blood. Danger!
A loud alarm suddenly went off in my head.
I was about to back away.
But it was too late. Su Yun felt a gust of bloody wind on her head. Realizing something was wrong, she quickly ducked and moved aside.
Ah! That was close.
Still shaken, Su Yun gripped the stick and looked back, only to see a huge, ugly rat standing where she had just stood, staring at her with a fierce look in its eyes.
The rat was about the size of a dog, with black scales covering its hands and feet. Its claws were long and thin and looked exceptionally sharp. It was covered in black fur, but its eyes were a crazy, blood-red color. It was staring at Su Yun with extreme madness. Its long, thin mouth was filled with dense teeth, and its mouth was half-open, constantly dripping disgusting mucus.
Su Yun's pupils dilated instantly. Damn it!
Just now, this rat had been lurking on the roof beam at some unknown time, and pounced on Su Yun, who was completely unaware of what was happening below.
Luckily, she dodged quickly, otherwise she would have been bitten by the giant rat.
This time, the ugly giant rat's sneak attack failed, but it did not retreat at all. Its blood-red eyes, filled with madness, were fierce, and it grinned with a mouthful of sharp teeth, staring at her menacingly.
Seeing this, Su Yun hurriedly turned and ran, but the rat had no intention of letting her go, and followed closely behind with its huge, ugly tail.
Two-legged humans can't outrun four-legged mice. Seeing that she was about to be caught, Su Yun hurriedly raised a wooden stick and hit it hard on the body.
Caught off guard, the giant rat was struck squarely with a stick and squeaked in pain.
Su Yun hurriedly and frantically struck a few more blows, but in his panic, he missed several times, only hitting the ground and kicking up a thick cloud of dust.
Instead, he ended up coughing quite a bit.
"Cough cough cough—this rat must be mutated, my god, it's not dead even after being hit like this?!"
Su Yun screamed as he attacked, but due to his severe lack of combat experience, he was completely flustered in the face of the sudden crisis.
The giant rat, with its thick skin and flesh, did not retreat after being hit several times. Instead, it took advantage of Su Yun's unpreparedness, bit down hard on the wooden stick, and flung it to the side. Su Yun was caught off guard and staggered, letting go of the wooden stick with both hands.
Su Yun: !!!
This rat not only seems to have thick skin and great strength, no wonder it dares to attack humans.
Upon seeing this, Su Yun hurriedly turned around and ran back to her room, intending to close the door.
The giant rat released its grip, tossed the stick aside, and continued chasing after Su Yun.
No, Su Yun isn't confident he can defeat this terrifying giant rat in close combat with just a fruit knife. He needs to find a more suitable weapon.
Su Yun turned and rushed into the small, doorless room, but before he could find a suitable weapon, the giant rat had already caught up. With a leap, it jumped directly onto Su Yun's back, and with a "whoosh," the backpack on Su Yun's back was instantly torn apart by the giant rat's claws and sharp teeth.
Su Yun hurriedly took off his backpack, rolled forward, and dodged the terrifying attack.
The contents of the bag fell to the ground with a clatter, but thankfully the tent had a thick enough moisture-proof mat, preventing the giant rat from tearing through its back.
But this time, she had nowhere to escape.
Su Chen rolled away to avoid the attack, straightened up, and pressed himself against the corner of the wall, staring at the giant rat.
The giant rat with its pointed snout and red eyes was staring at her with a fierce look. Its long, thin snout was filled with fine, sharp teeth, and it was drooling with anticipation of the delicious meal it was about to get its hands on.
Faced with the giant rat with its fierce eyes, Su Yun suppressed his panic, took a deep breath, sharpened his gaze, took out the fruit knife hanging at his waist, and assumed a defensive stance in front of the giant rat.
Since there's no way to escape, the only option is to muster the courage and fight to the death.
Su Yun took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. Her eyes were fixed firmly on the mutated rat that was about to pounce, and she gripped her last weapon tightly in her hand—the short fruit knife.
Perhaps they were stunned by Su Yun's sudden decisiveness, or perhaps they were wary of the knife in her hand.
The mutated rat did not attack immediately. Instead, it bent its hind legs slightly, its body tense, and stared at the weak human in front of it, ready to strike.
Those scarlet beast eyes were fixed on the human before them, trying to find a weakness to exploit.
When that weak human spirit relaxes.
Looking at the standoff between the two sides.
Su Yun inwardly cried out in alarm. She was originally a transmigrator who was completely powerless, and her sudden display of courage in this emergency was a fleeting moment forced out by the pressure of death.
If this stalemate continues for too long, I definitely won't be able to hold on.
What should I do?
Just as Su Yun's nerves relaxed slightly, the giant rat seized the opportunity, its scarlet eyes flashing with a glint of light. Then, it slightly shifted its body, opened its sharp snout, and pounced towards her vulnerable neck.
Su Yun was caught completely off guard and was about to fall flat on his face—
Just then, a huge black shadow swooped down from the roof beam and pounced straight at the mutated rat...
The dark figure was seen wrestling with the giant rat. The mutated rat let out a terrible squeak as it frantically attacked and tore at the person's body. The two were entangled together, and dust billowed up in the small room.
It looks like a person?
Su Yun watched as the person who had suddenly appeared used his body weight to press down on the rat, his hands firmly holding down the frantically struggling rat. The giant rat also struggled fiercely, its sharp teeth and claws striking the person directly, almost breaking free several times.
But the man still desperately used his size advantage to suppress the giant rat, but as time slowly passed, it seemed that he could no longer suppress it.
Su Yun suddenly snapped out of his daze, hurriedly grabbed the long fruit knife, seized the opportunity, and plunged it deep into the mutated rat's neck, gripping the handle tightly with both hands.
A few minutes later, seeing that the struggling rat had finally stopped breathing, Su Yun finally breathed a sigh of relief and released his grip on the knife handle.
Looking at that person again, he seemed to have already fainted, but he was using his body weight to hold down the mutated rat.
Su Yun hurriedly stepped forward and turned him over, finally able to see what he looked like.
He can perhaps not be simply called a "human," because he has a human face and a human body, but on his head he has a pair of cat-like ears and a long cat tail, while his hands and feet are sharp claws, and his back is covered with a thick layer of black fur that feels soft and pleasant to the touch.
The word "orc" popped into Su Yun's mind.
This is a male face with a slightly mixed-race appearance. Although his face still has a bit of baby fat, it still shows the perfect advantages of his features: heroic eyebrows, a high nose, and well-defined cheeks. He is as handsome as a sculpture.
The human face.
The body of an animal.
This is not scientific.
Oh, but the rats have all grown bigger, zombies have appeared, and orcs aren't so strange after all.
Su Yun went back to check on the dead giant rat again. To prevent it from coming back to life, Su Yun cut off its head. Looking at the sharp teeth and claws that were clearly not typical of a rat, Su Yun was certain that it was also a mutated creature.
Have all species mutated in this era?
That can't be right.
Su Yun examined him closely. He seemed to have suffered a very serious injury. His entire chest was covered in blood. It didn't look like he had fought with a giant rat. It looked more like he had been ripped open by the claws of some enormous creature. The wound was very deep, and you could almost see his internal organs. The most serious injury was on his left chest, where his heart was almost damaged.
Now, in addition to the mutated rats' frantic scratching and biting before they died, their bodies and hands were almost covered with bloody wounds.
Su Yun finally understood where the faint smell of blood in the air came from. He saw that the man was lying motionless on the ground, seemingly lifeless.
Is it over? Is he dead?
Su Yun hurriedly placed her hand under his nose, but couldn't feel a breath at all.
Su Yun's heart skipped a beat. She then checked his pulse again and found only a faint throbbing.
Seeing this, Su Yun hurriedly picked up the things scattered on the ground, quickly found clean towels, bandages, and hemostatic medicine, and began to clean the wound.
The wound, wiped with a towel, was even more horrifying; it was a bloody mess, revealing the white bone, and blood was still seeping out...
Unfortunately, the medicine was limited, so Su Yun could only pour hemostatic medicine and liniment onto the deepest part of the wound on her chest... whatever medicine it was, she quickly applied it, and finally wrapped it with a bandage, hoping that this would stop the bleeding...
Seeing his pale lips from blood loss, Su Yun thought for a moment, then peeled several milk candies, put them in a sports water bottle, shook it vigorously, and after most of the candies dissolved, she carefully fed him half a cup. Finally, his lips regained a little color.
Seeing his gradually improving complexion, Su Yun finally breathed a sigh of relief. After thinking for a moment, she took out another amoxicillin capsule, forced it into his mouth, and poured him some water. She didn't know if this human medicine would actually work on an orc...
Well, there's no doctor here, so I guess I'll just have to give it a try.
After giving him the medicine, she took out the scattered sleeping bag, unfolded it, and covered him with it.
She had done everything she could for her savior, and the rest was up to fate. After all, in this desolate, post-apocalyptic world, she didn't know where to find a doctor.
After finishing all that, Su Yun noticed the dead giant rat beside him. After thinking for a moment, he grabbed a fruit knife and stood up. He still needed to deal with the dead rat, since the smell of blood could attract it, and who knows what other monsters it might attract.
So Su Yun laboriously carried the mutated dead rat outside, randomly found an abandoned water tank, threw it in, sealed it with the lid, weighed it down with a stone, and after making sure there was no more smell, she walked away. Sigh, she'll take it out and bury it another day. After all, she had just gone through a fierce battle and performed first aid, and was exhausted. She really didn't have the strength to dig a hole.
She went out into the yard and turned on the tap, but not a single drop of water came out.
"Oh, I forgot this is the apocalypse, there's no water and no electricity..."
She turned her head and looked around, and found a well in the center of the yard. It was an old-fashioned crank well. She walked over and tried to crank it. The crank made a rattling sound, obviously because it had been rusted for a long time. After persisting for a few minutes, Su Yun thought for a moment, went around to the stream outside, fetched some water and carefully poured it into the well.
He continued shaking it, and after a few minutes, Su Yun's hands were aching from shaking. Then, with a few gurgling sounds, a stream of clear well water gushed out of the iron pipe...
Finally, there's water!
Su Yun jumped up excitedly, her arms no longer aching, and shook the water vigorously for a long time until the yellowish water gradually cleared. Only then did Su Yun carefully fill a bucket and examine it closely.
The well water was crystal clear and seemed perfectly normal, so I felt safe enough to wash my hands.
This old-fashioned well water is still the best. It doesn't have to worry about water or power outages, and the well water is so refreshingly cool.
If I hadn't just witnessed the mutated animals of this world, I would have wanted to drink it straight away. But for the sake of my health, I'll boil it first.
Su Yun went into the kitchen to investigate. Fortunately, the stove, pots and pans were still intact, and there was some unburnt wood inside.
Su Yun quickly tidied up the stove and started a fire to boil water.
The water was boiled in no time. I washed it, took out a porcelain bowl, sterilized it with boiling water, poured in a little water, blew on it to cool it down, and carefully drank it.
"Finally, I can drink water." Su Yun almost cried. Poor Su Yun only had one sports water bottle. She didn't dare to drink much until she found a water source. In the end, she used the remaining half to treat her savior.
Right now, she was so thirsty her throat felt like it was on fire.
After tidying everything up, Su Yun returned to the room after drinking some water. She found him still unconscious. If it weren't for his faint breathing, she would have thought he was a corpse. Su Yun didn't dare to move him, fearing that the wound would reopen. She could only carefully feed him some sugar water again. Feeling the water flowing in his throat, she knew that he could still drink water, so his condition was not bad.
After feeding him a bowl of water, Su Yun thought for a moment, then tore open a piece of candy and put it in his mouth.
Replenishing sugar is beneficial.
Although she didn't have many snacks left: two packs of instant noodles, a pack of compressed biscuits, and a pack of biscuits.
If we can't find anything to eat the day after tomorrow, we might go hungry.
However, she was used to living in a mountain village since she was a child, and as long as the mountains were there, none of this could stop her. It was just that it was getting late and the sunlight was gradually becoming softer, and it would soon get dark.
The most important thing now was to get through the night safely, so Su Yun checked the house carefully again. Fortunately, this time, nothing dangerous appeared. So she found the latch, closed the door, fetched some water, cleaned up the bloodstains, opened the window to let the smell of blood dissipate, and cleared a space for herself to put down a moisture-proof mat.
Finally, they locked the front door, closed the windows, and moved a large pile of firewood to a corner, preparing for the night.
Finally, before sunset, Su Yun lit a small fire and sat down in the small tool shed. She originally wanted to go to another room that was more spacious and larger, but she couldn't move the seriously injured patient and was worried that he might be in other dangers if he was alone here, so she could only rest here.
She held a bowl of warm water, facing the compressed biscuits, and ate her dinner.
Looking at the silent "corpse," she thought for a moment, then took another bowl, broke the biscuits into pieces, soaked them in warm water to make a paste, opened his mouth, and fed him little by little with a spoon.
Seeing him slowly swallowing the porridge and being able to eat, Su Yun breathed a slight sigh of relief, realizing that his condition was improving. She had previously thought he was really about to die.
Su Yun looked at his tightly closed eyes and weak breathing, silently praying that he would get better. After all, he was the only person she had met since she came to this era, and moreover, he had saved her life, giving her some hope.
At night, the fire flickered and emitted a warm light, illuminating the unsettling darkness. Su Yun stared at the dancing flames, holding a bowl of warm water, and carefully drank it.
The warm water soothed her dry mouth and calmed her frightened mood from the day's injury.
Waaaaah, for a moment, I thought I was going to die.
Fortunately, the orcs came to my rescue in time, otherwise I would have been bitten to death by the giant rat. It was truly terrifying.
Through the fire, Su Yun quietly observed the orc opposite him: a strong body, sharp claws, and the sharp fangs he had seen when he was given water.
Judging by appearances, they should be... quite strong in combat...
Looking at myself in comparison, with my short arms and legs, I feel utterly pathetic.
Su Yun shook his head helplessly, feeling somewhat frustrated. It seemed that although he didn't have to go to work, this apocalypse wasn't going to be easy to survive in!
