Chapter 188 Escape

The sandstorm, which looked eerily bright under the red sun, lasted for five days. Li Ke hid underground for five whole days. When the storm finally subsided, she emerged from the tunnel. The ground in the courtyard was covered with a thick layer of sand, as if it had been raining sand for several days.

Li Ke cleared out the area where the villa had originally been placed. He first bulldozed the ground twice, then swept it clean with a multi-functional sweeper before finally putting the villa back out.

Just as they finished with that, the alarm rang again. Li Ke turned on the walkie-talkie, and Song Xian's anxious voice immediately came through: "Brother, there's a large group of people hiding outside the wall. I counted about five hundred people. They said they've been hiding under the wall for two days."

I had just noticed the storm had stopped when I spotted this group of people. I looked through my binoculars and at first I thought it was just a pile of dirt. I wouldn't have noticed them if they hadn't moved on their own.

Upon hearing this, Li Ke immediately climbed the high wall and looked down. Sure enough, he saw a large group of people in a sheltered spot. These people were cleaning the sand off their bodies, but many others were buried in the sand, motionless, making it impossible to tell whether they were dead or alive.

Li Ke had a headache. How did these people get here? Did they blow in with the wind? Li Ke didn't believe it. If they really did blow in, why was there no one in her yard?

"Have them elect a representative. Have them separate the sick, the dead, and the healthy. Then have Qiu Feng send some men over to help maintain order. Hold your gun tight. Anyone who doesn't cooperate, shoot them!" Li Ke gave the orders while setting up his machine gun and aiming it at the people below.

Song Xian habitually looked up and saw Brother Li's cool and handsome figure with the machine gun mounted. His heart immediately calmed down: "Received. I have already notified Qiu Feng's people. They are on their way. I will have them separated and quarantined now, and then I will report back to you after they have selected representatives."

Some of the people who were also paying attention to Song Xian naturally raised their heads as he did so. When they saw the machine gun muzzle on the high wall and the people wearing full combat uniforms, they were also invigorated. Several of them raised their hands and shouted at the same time: "Comrades, we are ordinary people who have fled here. We have no ill intentions. Please do not shoot."

Li Ke spoke directly into the walkie-talkie: "Song Xian, you handle this."

Upon receiving the order, Song Xian immediately shouted to his men, "As long as you cooperate with our commands and do not make any inappropriate moves, you will not be harmed. The machine guns above are just for routine alert. Now, please cooperate. Those who are sick, please move to the left; those who are not sick, please move to the right. Also, please select a representative to speak with us. We need to understand your situation before making further arrangements."

No sooner had Song Xian finished speaking than Niu Dazhuang arrived with his men on motorcycles. They were all strong and muscular, with two men on the back of each motorcycle, all carrying guns. When they reached Song Xian, they made a clean side brake, and the men on the back jumped off. Song Xian suddenly had twelve more henchmen.

Niu Dazhuang walked over to Song Xian, asked him about his plans in a low voice, and then waved for his brothers to disperse to prevent any accidents from happening.

Seeing so many armed men appear again, the group quickened their pace. Song Xian noticed someone helping another person walk to the right and asked, "What's going on with you? Sick people should walk to the left. It's the peak season for infectious diseases right now. We're separating you for your own good. If you don't cooperate, don't blame us for being impolite."

Upon hearing Song Xian's words, the two men froze in place, too afraid to move. Song Xian frowned, "I'm asking you a question! Either separate and leave, or answer me!"

The man being helped spoke weakly: "Sir, my brother is mute. Neither of us is sick. I've just been eating too little these past few days and I'm a bit weak, which is why he's helping me."

Song Xian then realized that the person dressed in loose men's clothing was a woman. He looked them over carefully and then waved them through: "Go on, if it is later found that you concealed your illness and caused others to be infected, you will be sentenced to death."

The woman nodded slightly: "We're really not sick, we wouldn't dare lie."

Song Xian ignored them and continued to look at the others. Li Ke stood on the wall and also picked up the binoculars hanging around his neck, aiming them at the people below and looking at them one by one.

The walkie-talkie was on the whole time, and Li Ke heard everything Song Xian said. Her gaze also lingered on the brother and sister for a while, but she couldn't see anything wrong with them for the time being.

The younger sister was rather thin, and the older brother was somewhat hunched over. Both of them were wearing drab, unrecognizable clothes, and their heads were covered with old clothes wrapped in headscarves. The half of their faces that were exposed were also covered in dust. In such a dirty state, Li Ke couldn't tell anything wrong, and she wasn't very familiar with the two of them.

She shifted the camera to the next target, but after a moment, she couldn't help but look back at the brother and sister. She still couldn't find anything wrong, and Li Ke wasn't sure what it was about the two of them that had attracted her attention.

If she couldn't remember, she stopped worrying about it and decided to find out after she had settled things with these people.

After everyone below had been isolated, Li Ke turned her gaze to Niu Dazhuang, who had been glancing at her from time to time, and her gaze followed the muzzle of her machine gun.

Niu Dazhuang, standing below the wall, grinned sheepishly. Li Ke now recognized him as the bearded man from before. This guy had an honest face, but he was actually cunning.
