After Li Ke descended the mountain, she encountered two women on the night shift. She simply told them to continue working. As soon as she got out of the car, she pressed the alarm bell in the container in Song Xianshan Cave, which called people out.
Song Xian came out quickly, and Li Ke led him to an open space. Li Ke said in a calm voice, "I feel that the group of people who suddenly appeared is very strange, but I can't quite put my finger on what the problem is. But I have a guess in my mind. I suspect that these people must have joined here with some purpose. The most likely reason is the recent outbreak of the zombie virus."
Song Xian thought for a moment and said, "Does elder brother think there's something wrong with those patients?"
Li Ke's dream was simple and brutal: in a red sandstorm, where it should have been impossible to move an inch, she found herself surrounded by people infected with the zombie virus.
Their bodies were covered in lividity, rotting, and their expressions were numb and indifferent. Li Ke's heart raced and she felt very panicked in this environment. It was as if she had returned to the moment in her previous life when she was forced into the infected's living area.
But soon, amidst the swaying figures, Li Ke spotted some familiar faces. They were the same people he had taken in earlier that day. Then, another group of infected surged in from behind, including Qiu Feng, Niu Dazhuang and their brothers, and finally Song Xian and his three guards.
These people surged towards Li Ke like a tide, and just as she felt she had nowhere to escape and was about to suffocate, she finally woke up from her dream.
The moment her mind cleared, countless guesses flashed through Li Ke's mind. Finally, she thought of the mysterious behind-the-scenes boss who had been researching miracle drugs and patients. This force had been causing trouble all along, but so far no one had even come close to getting close to him.
In Li Ke's mind, the faces of those infected people at the foot of the mountain in his dream floated by. As long as there is any suspicion of hidden danger, we must take precautions in advance. If someone really intends to infect everyone, or if something unexpected happens, then it will be too late.
Li Ke frowned: "It's not necessarily those patients, it could be those who aren't sick, or it could be all of them! Didn't Qiu Feng's message say that the boss has been collecting infected patients for research?"
What if this person has developed a new method of infection or created something else unknown, and then spread it among us?
Of course, I might be overreacting, but we must take necessary precautions. We cannot judge the thoughts and behaviors of ordinary people by the standards of ordinary people.
Go down the mountain now and tell Qiufeng everything I said. How he investigates and arranges those people is up to him. But tell him that we won't be taking any more of these people on the mountain. If he doesn't want to take them on either, I won't force him.”
Song Xian carefully noted down every word Li Ke said. He knew that if such a thing really happened, the consequences would be unimaginable, so he naturally wouldn't underestimate Brother Li's suspicions.
Song Xian got off his bike and went to find Qiu Feng. He told Qiu Feng what Brother Li had said. Qiu Feng was equally serious after hearing this: "Okay, I will investigate thoroughly. Fortunately, we isolated these people tonight. But time is of the essence. I will take people to deal with this matter now."
Song Xian didn't rush to leave. He wanted to see how Qiu Feng and the others planned to handle the matter before reporting back to Brother Li. He asked, "Where are the bodies? Have you dealt with them? Is there a problem with the number?"
Qiu Feng didn't think there was anything wrong with Song Xian asking such questions, and said directly, "When the body was brought back, it was put into an underground cement pool for isolation. We plan to take it out again tomorrow evening and bury it outside."
After a pause, Qiu Feng added, "I'm not concerned about the quantity anymore; I'll have someone check it again."
Song Xian followed Qiu Feng and asked, "What do you plan to do with these people? Are you going to take them in?"
Qiu Feng didn't answer him immediately. Instead, he looked Song Xian up and down with admiration: "You're quite something, kid. A while ago, you were even avoiding eye contact with us. Now you've become much bolder. You've made progress."
Song Xian smiled and said, "That's all thanks to the care of you all. If I didn't know that you are all straightforward and treat me like one of your own, I wouldn't dare to be so casual around you, Brother Qiu."
Qiu Feng patted Song Xian on the shoulder: "Of course, we are definitely on the same side. I hope you can help me spread good words in the future, so that the brothers can keep up with the pace of the higher-ups and avoid accidentally making mistakes and falling behind, which would make the elder brother anxious."
“Of course, my brother and I are of the same mind. Although our leaders on the mountain are serious in their dealings, they are upright in their conduct and take good care of us. So we naturally have to follow them wholeheartedly.” Song Xian leaned closer to Qiu Feng and lowered his voice.
Qiu Feng nodded in agreement. After taking a few steps, he saw Niu Dazhuang leading his men over and then picked up the previous topic again: "If it is found that these people are really not problematic, then let them stay. But there are ways to deal with those who stay."
Even if we can't find anything or we do find something wrong, we can't drive these people away. They've come to us, so we can use this opportunity to open a loophole and maybe find out something.
This time, they recklessly drove people away, but who knows who they were? What other methods might they use against them later?
Song Xian felt a headache coming on: "Life is already so hard, why can't we just live our lives peacefully and try our best to survive? Why are there still these troublemakers around?"
Niu Dazhuang overheard their conversation and chuckled, "That's because some people have it too easy. Without regulation, they'd become even more lawless. You know, the evil in human nature is unimaginable. You should be glad you met young brother and people like us, so you can still ask such a naive question."
