Chapter 229 Lessons Learned

The group of people finished the list, and Director Fu had it circulated around for another check to see if anything was missing and to add it.

"Director, we've asked for so many things. What if the Mo family doesn't agree?" one of his subordinates asked with concern.

Director Fu snorted: "We can't give you all of this. Even if we only give you twenty or thirty, we'll still make a profit. As for the rest, we'll leave it for now and see what happens in the future."

In Director Fu's view, the Mo family would not cooperate with him, nor could they cooperate with anyone else. Even if he couldn't eat the whole thing, he would find a way to get the fattest piece of this big fat sheep.

However, he is currently in dire straits. Once he reunites with his elder brother and rebuilds his forces, he will no longer be inferior to the Mo family when dealing with them again.

When Li Zhenzhen returned home, her daughter Jiaojiao's room was empty. She asked Gao Ren who Jiaojiao's new boyfriend was.

Gao Ren was also completely baffled. He had been staying by Director Fu's side all night and hadn't really noticed who Jiao Jiao was spending more time with.

Knowing that Jiao Jiao hadn't done anything out of line at the banquet, Li Zhenzhen was somewhat relieved. As for who her new boyfriend was, she planned to ask her when she got back.

With no one in the room, Li Zhenzhen poured some water, washed herself, changed her clothes, and was about to leave when Chen Jiaojiao walked in.

"Mom, are you planning to go out? Where are you going? To meet that Gao Ren?" Chen Jiaojiao closed the door, her smile fading, and she spoke to Li Zhenzhen with a hint of contempt.

Instead of answering, Li Zhenzhen asked, "And what about you? Where did you go? Who is your new boyfriend? Is he from our base, or someone that Director Fu brought? If he's one of Director Fu's men, then I'm telling you right now, break up with him and don't get involved with those people."

Chen Jiaojiao frowned: "Why should I? I'm an adult and have the freedom to make friends. Stop interfering with my life. If you really want to control me, can I make you break up with Gao Ren too?"

Li Zhenzhen felt that her daughter was being unreasonable: "Gao Ren and I have special circumstances, unlike you. That Director Fu will eventually leave. You're hanging out with his people. Are you going to leave with them later?"

Chen Jiaojiao's eyes flickered: "That's none of your business. I know what I'm doing. But don't always criticize me. Maybe your Captain Gao has something you don't know about. If you really don't like him, we can find a way to get rid of him."

Li Zhenzhen stood up and pushed aside her daughter who was blocking the doorway: "You really dare to think and say anything now. Do you think Gao Ren is like your mother-in-law? That he'll fall to the ground and die if you just push him?"

Chen Jiaojiao stopped her mother's hand as she was about to open the door: "Just tell me if you want to or not? If you do, I have a way to make Gao Ren disappear right now, and you don't even have to lift a finger."

Li Zhenzhen pushed Chen Jiaojiao's hand away: "I don't want to, and I've never thought about it. Gao Ren has never wronged us. If you continue to be so restless and always want people to disappear, don't come to me for advice anymore."

Li Zhenzhen didn't like Gao Ren, but Gao Ren treated her well. Compared to all the men she had met in the past, Gao Ren was quite good.

Being with Gao Ren would be somewhat helpful to her current situation. Li Zhenzhen didn't want to carry too many unspeakable secrets on her mind. Gao Ren's life was not as easy to take as those of the others.

Chen Jiaojiao watched as her mother finished scolding her and left through the door. She slammed the door shut in anger. "All she does is scold me. What kind of good person is Gao Ren anyway?"

Without Gao Ren? How would she know Director Fu's nephew? They're still lecturing her now, but wait until Gao Ren gives her a big surprise, then let's see what she has to say to her.

Li Ke rode her motorcycle into a dilapidated city, where a few scattered green plants were sprouting. After the sun rose higher, she entered a building to prepare for her lunch break.

The temperature these past two days has reached a high of about 55 degrees Celsius, with the midday hours being the most difficult. Li Ke usually rests during the midday and evening hours and sets off on his journey in the morning and evening.

She was in a hurry, walking and stopping along the way. She occasionally encountered some pedestrians, but they would all wisely back away after seeing the machine gun on her back.

After parking his motorcycle, Li Ke checked the situation in the lobby on the first floor. It was a commercial building with a large space on the first floor. Apart from the vandalized reception desk, there was nothing else there.

It looks like the place has been thoroughly looted; all the wooden building materials that could be pried off have been taken.

After checking that no one was around, Li Ke casually swept the area next to the car, took out an inflatable mattress, laid it out, and sat down after inflating it.

Li Ke took out a lunchbox from her bag and disguised it as a meal. She first ate a plate of cold noodles, then a plate of chilled fruit, before finally finishing her lunch.

Just as he finished packing up and was about to lie down to rest, he suddenly saw a small head in the glass. The head quickly retracted, and Li Ke immediately sat up, grabbed his machine gun, and got up to check the situation.

Reaching the pillar, Li Ke looked at the exposed corner of her clothes and shouted sternly, "Come out!"

"I was here first! I've always lived here, you can't kick me out!" A small voice came from behind the pillar, trembling slightly.

Hearing the stubborn child's voice, Li Ke said with amusement, "You were here first? How come I didn't notice you just now? There are no signs of anyone living here, nor is there any place where people live."
