Chapter 30 Spending Money to Avoid Disaster

Aunt Mei knew that it was no use feeling sorry for him now. When she heard Lao Zhang's request, she went to look at his pants and naturally discovered the large wet patch.

She suppressed her disgust, went to find his pants, helped him change, then went to find his ID card and bank card, and helped Old Zhang out of the bedroom.

It was already 5:30 in the morning. Aunt Mei still felt that something was strange in the yard. After she realized what was going on, she stopped helping Old Zhang, grabbed a flashlight, and ran towards the shop in front of her.

The four rooms were completely empty. Aunt Mei's mind went blank, and she immediately sat down on the ground.

Old Zhang also came over, enduring the pain, and said to Aunt Mei, "This must be a gang crime. We can't afford to offend them. Let's just consider this a loss to avoid further trouble."

When the couple arrived at the hospital and saw the bustling crowds, they felt as if they had returned to the human world, and their minds relaxed considerably.

The doctor inevitably asked Zhang Tao what happened to his hand.

Seeing that the couple had come together, both looking unwell with red eyes, the doctor guessed that they had likely had a fight and had surgery.

Old Zhang only said that it was dark and he wasn't paying attention; he got hurt somehow when he was picking up the fruit.

Aunt Mei nodded in agreement, saying that the two of them had discussed it beforehand in the car.

When the doctor heard this excuse and saw the couple's shifty eyes, he was convinced that they were fighting. Since that was the case, he naturally wouldn't interfere and would just focus on treating the injuries.

After the knife was removed, the wound was cleaned, stitches were put in, medicine was applied, and two IV drips were administered, the couple was able to pick up their medication and be discharged by noon.

Stepping out of the hospital and standing in the sunlight, the couple felt exceptionally warm. Thinking about the horror of the previous night, neither of them wanted to go home.

Aunt Mei asked Zhang Tao, "Old Zhang, do you have a direction in mind? Do you have anyone you suspect? If we can catch him and send him to jail, we won't have to live in fear anymore."

Zhang Tao had no idea what was going on. He couldn't match anyone to the person in question. He couldn't possibly dare to offend someone so ruthless. Who knew if he had offended that woman who was passing by and was now settling scores? If that was the case, he was even more clueless.

Zhang Tao sighed: "I didn't even see a hair on that person's head before I was knocked unconscious and smothered. How would I know who it was? Besides, this is clearly a gang crime. If even one person escapes the net, we could be retaliated against. Don't even think about asking the police for help. We can't even tell our two sons and daughter about this."

Now that both sons are married and have their own families, they've each developed their own little schemes. If they knew that their family once had such a secret stash of money, which ended up falling into the hands of thieves, who knows if they would take it upon themselves to report it to the police?

Even if they don't call the police, they'll probably still harbor resentment towards the couple.

Moreover, Zhang Tao still trembled with fear when he recalled being lifted up by that person with one hand and hearing that chilling voice in his ear. That person was too strong. Although he didn't see the person at all, he knew that the other party was terrifying.

Aunt Mei knew that Old Zhang had a point, but she still said, "I did see that person's figure, just once. He was very strong, all muscle. Before I could react, I was knocked unconscious. I thought about it, and there is definitely no one like that among the people I know. You should be more honest in the future. If something like this happens again, I really can't live."

Aunt Mei was thinking that if it really happened again, she would separate from Lao Zhang and live with her son or daughter in the future, so as not to be implicated by this lecherous man again.

This time, Zhang Tao listened to advice: "After this experience, I will never dare to do it again."

His words at that moment were utterly sincere, but he himself did not expect that old habits die hard, and moreover, most people forget the pain once the wound has healed.

The Zhang couple locked the gate of their old home and went to a house in the city with trepidation to recuperate and avoid disaster.

Li Ke received a message from the person who processed the certificate early in the morning. The message gave an address, which was a park in the south of the city. Li Ke replied that she had received it and then got up to get ready.

When she came downstairs, the Chen family members were having breakfast together. When Chen Niansheng saw Li Ke come down, he said, "Xiao Ke, come and eat with us. You don't need to go to the kitchen anymore. Just eat with us."

Seeing Grandma Chen's harsh and unwilling expression, Li Ke held back and said nothing. Chen Xian, sitting next to her, glanced at Li Ke's face and continued eating.

The others kept their heads down and ate their food, either ignoring Li Ke or thinking that they didn't need to pay attention to her.

Li Ke felt it affected her appetite and replied, "No need, I'm not hungry, I'll go out first."
