A look of resentment crossed Chen Jiaojiao's face: "Zhuang Weifeng had so many supplies thanks to me, but after he benefited, he started to think of our family as a burden, and treated me, his girlfriend, like a servant. He even started having inappropriate relationships with other women. Later, Nie Wenliang betrayed him, and the supplies in his space disappeared. My father, older brother, and older sister also abandoned us and ran away. My mother, younger brother, and I ran with the refugees for a long time before finally reaching Qingyuan Base. Then my mother recognized the base commander, Mo Qing, as her first love, and our situation improved a little."
"What space?" Li Ke asked, seizing on the word, something she had only seen in books long ago.
"It's that yellow jade lucky bead you gave me. I gave it to Zhuang Weifeng. Somehow, that guy discovered there was a space inside it. After the tsunami, he collected some supplies and hid them all in the space. I saw him touch the lucky bead, and food appeared out of thin air," Chen Jiaojiao said truthfully.
Li Ke: "After he died, Nie Wenliang took the bead?"
Chen Jiaojiao: "No, after Zhuang Weifeng died, the bead broke in two, and all the supplies were gone. Everyone tried all sorts of methods, but nothing worked. So we all gave up. I thought it was my sister's thing, so I tied it with thread and wore it on my body. It's still tied around my waist now."
Li Ke lifted the hem of Chen Jiaojiao's clothes, revealing her now slender waist, exactly the waist size she had desired before the apocalypse.
A dirty, thin rope, its original color indistinguishable, threaded through the already filthy bead. Li Ke pulled the lucky bead off, revealing that the yellow jade was more than half entangled in the rope, with a noticeable crack in the middle.
This was a peace bead that her grandfather personally went to a Taoist temple to get for her when she was eight years old. He said it was obtained using her birth date and time. She always thought her grandfather had been tricked, but that didn't stop her from valuing his intentions.
Chen Jiaojiao still has many ulterior motives, which Li Ke sees very clearly. Her actions of "stirring up trouble" and "stockpiling food" are nothing more than a way to prevent Chen Jiaojiao from abandoning her if she finds out the truth. They also aim to give Chen Jiaojiao the same sordid experience so that Li Ke can control her.
Having learned enough, Li Ke had neither the energy nor the inclination to waste any more words with Chen Jiaojiao, and directly shoved the chopsticks in her hand down Chen Jiaojiao's throat.
Chen Jiaojiao opened her eyes wide in pain and struggled fiercely. Just as Li Ke was about to lose control of her, he stabbed another chopstick into her left eye and then quickly pulled it out.
Chen Jiaojiao let out a painful groan, her body curled up, her hands in agony, unsure whether to cover her neck or her eyes.
Li Ke picked up a brick used to extinguish the fire and smashed it down on Chen Jiaojiao's head, ending her suffering without any hesitation. She should have done it sooner.
After doing all this, Li Ke collapsed to the side, exhausted. It must have been late, but the night outside wasn't too dark. That's how the nights are during the hottest period; the moon and stars are very bright, and occasionally there are some brightly colored auroras, which may indicate that another natural disaster is about to strike somewhere.
After resting for a while, Li Ke, enduring the pain in his legs, dragged Chen Jiaojiao's body inside. This way, even if there was no obstruction at the door, people looking in wouldn't notice anything for a while.
Li Ke laid Chen Jiaojiao's body down in a dignified manner. Looking at the blood still flowing on her head, she swallowed hard, ultimately suppressing the desire in her heart. She couldn't let herself start that.
After covering the bloodstains on the ground with ash, Li Ke climbed to the wall, took out the loose brick, reached inside and felt around, and found a bottle of purified water, half a bag of ordinary compressed biscuits, and a bag of dried noodles that had gone bad and tasted bitter.
Li Ke had no intention of hiding them for the next meal. She ate all the cookies, which totaled only seven or eight, then drank a sip of water and leaned against the wall to continue resting.
Her right knee was injured by Lu Qing. She didn't dare to stay at the base to recover and ran away. She fell off her motorcycle and twisted her right knee again. It never healed and Chen Jiaojiao thought she had become a cripple.
Her left leg is also injured, and her thigh is swollen and painful. However, because her physical condition is so poor, she has become somewhat numb to the pain and can bear it.
But Li Ke, leaning against the wall, couldn't see her future. She was already quite lucky to have survived until now, as a girl from the bottom of society. It was just that her luck was always much worse, and she always encountered more bad people than good people.
I've heard of a base called Oasis, where management is very humane. The managers are not only capable, but they also have high expectations for their subordinates. Ordinary people there can receive some protection and are rarely oppressed.
Li Ke didn't quite believe that such a place existed, but she had good physical abilities and had been at the Bincheng base for almost two years. Sensing that something was wrong, Li Ke was planning to leave and go to the Oasis base to find a new way out, but she was still a step too late.
With her current crippled body, it's impossible for her to reach the oasis base thousands of miles away.
The leader of this gathering place has not returned yet, and Li Ke does not know how many people he took out, but what she sees is that there are about twenty or thirty people left here, mostly men and few women, all of them emaciated. They are probably guarding this place for that pool.
Li Ke also found the existence of that pool quite magical. There are almost no places to see water on the ground now. The water used by the Bincheng base is groundwater, rainwater, and snow stored during the rainy season and winter.
Although he had replenished some of his energy, Li Ke had expended a lot of strength in killing Chen Jiaojiao. Although he was still thinking about things, his eyes were already closed.
