After returning to her room, Li Ke was overwhelmed by fatigue and exhaustion. She sat on the sofa chair by the window in her bedroom, feeling lazy and unwilling to move.
The maid brought in a glass of milk and placed it on Li Ke's bedside table: "Miss Li, this is your bedtime milk. Drinking a glass will help you sleep very well."
The maid had an Asian face and a sincere smile, but spoke Chinese in a very old-fashioned way, suggesting she had grown up abroad.
Li Ke glanced at the glass of milk and then said, "Thank you, I need to rest now."
The maid politely left the room, and Li Ke already felt as if she was about to get a fever; the feeling came on quickly and intensely.
The moment the door closed, Li Ke used her last bit of strength to crawl into bed.
In just three or four minutes, she felt the breath from her eyes, mouth, and nose burning her skin, but she was shivering with cold and felt that the blanket was not thick enough.
Li Ke wrapped the blanket tightly around himself, burying himself completely under it, and his breathing became even more rapid. Li Ke had experienced this kind of severe fever several times during the apocalypse, and back then he had just toughed it out without any medicine.
But I never expected that my body would be attacked by the virus again. I wonder if it has anything to do with the big thing I did tonight? Is it because I took in too much at once?
But Li Ke had received similar items before without experiencing the same physical reaction. He couldn't quite figure it out, but there must be some connection.
Despite feeling extremely unwell, Li Ke's brain was unable to rest; she was still calculating how to use the newly acquired wealth.
He kept thinking about what supplies he needed to stockpile: weapons and ammunition, gasoline, diesel, kerosene, medicine, and medical equipment...
Spend it all, find a way to spend it all. What's left will first depreciate significantly in the apocalypse, and then become worthless paper...
He couldn't move, but his mind kept replaying the images of how he had bought a huge amount of the supplies he wanted, constantly adding them to his storage space. He couldn't spend them all, he simply couldn't spend them all. Li Ke looked at the mountain of money left behind and felt so annoyed...
There was a family medicine cabinet in the room, but Li Ke didn't want to move at all. She just wanted to wrap herself up tightly, leaving no gaps. She was uncomfortable and couldn't sleep. Her mind seemed to be filled with wild and random thoughts, but she didn't miss any of the noises from the outside world.
She didn't know how much time had passed when she heard the sound of the door lock being turned. It was strange; even though she was in so much pain, her senses were still very sharp.
Someone came in. Li Ke endured the discomfort and poked her head out from under the covers. The outside air touched her head and face, and the chill went straight into her skull. Li Ke wrapped the blanket around the top of her head, leaving only her eyes exposed.
The visitor was Zhuang Weifeng. The bedside lamp cast a very soft light, but when Zhuang Weifeng saw Li Ke wake up, lift the covers, and meet his gaze, he opened his mouth slightly in surprise and embarrassment.
Then he saw Li Ke quickly cover her head and face completely, only revealing her big, hazy eyes as she looked at him, and Zhuang Weifeng thought she was very cute.
Although Li Ke did not drink the milk and fall asleep as planned, the awake Li Ke did not seem to refuse him.
Zhuang Weifeng's eyes lit up with a smile, and he said affectionately, "Why aren't you resting yet? I was a little worried about you, so I came to check on you and see how you were sleeping."
