A screeching sound of brakes rang out.
At that moment, the world stood still.
Shen Zhi Qiu fainted.
In the last second before losing consciousness, she remembered Rong Mo rushing over without hesitation to protect her; and Lu Jia, sitting in the passenger seat, turning around with a look of fear and worry.
The sound of metal clashing and shattering, along with the immense inertia and impact, knocked her unconscious.
When Shen Zhi Qiu woke up in the hospital room, she was somewhat dazed.
Shen Zhi Qiu tilted her head slightly, and the first thing she saw was Rong Mo, who looked haggard and had a bandage wrapped around his head.
It's unclear how long he's been by the bedside, but he's currently dozing off, propping his head up with his right hand.
His eyes were tightly closed, and he looked exhausted. He sat hunched over, as if he were about to collapse onto the bed.
Shen Zhi Qiu's heart stirred slightly, and she called out softly, "Brother."
Rong Mo suddenly woke up, opened his eyes and looked at Shen Zhi Qiu in disbelief, his wide eyes bloodshot.
"Zhi Qiu, you're awake." Rong Mo's voice choked as soon as he spoke.
"Brother, I'm fine." Lying down, Shen Zhi Qiu wanted to move her body and struggled to sit up.
Upon seeing this, Rong Mo immediately stood up, but he probably had been in one position for too long, and his body was now somewhat numb. He ended up falling back onto the hospital bed uncontrollably.
Afraid that his body would crush Shen Zhi Qiu, Rong Mo quickly braced himself against the bed railing, using his arm strength to stabilize his center of gravity.
"hiss".
Because of the pain, Rong Mo's lips twitched, and he made a small sound, but quickly shut his mouth to avoid worrying Shen Zhi Qiu. After several seconds, his trembling hand calmed down a bit.
“Brother.” Shen Zhi Qiu felt a pang of sadness, thinking that Rong Mo was in such a sorry state because he had to protect her.
"I'm fine, brother." To put Shen Zhi Qiu's mind at ease, Rong Mo forced a smile. "I'll raise the bed a bit, and you can eat something later. Lu Jia has already gone to buy you your favorite food."
Shen Zhi Qiu looked around the ward with some confusion. "Brother, how long have I been unconscious?"
"It's been three days." Rong Mo's voice was very low. He had been terrified for the past three days, fearing that he would lose his younger sister again.
"My child..."
Shen Zhi Qiu touched her stomach with lingering fear, her face full of worry.
"The doctor has already examined the child, and thankfully the baby is fine. You just need to rest in bed for a while, so don't worry," Rong Mo quickly explained the situation, trying to allay Shen Zhi Qiu's concerns.
Shen Zhi Qiu breathed a sigh of relief, then suddenly thought of Lu Jia, "Then, I was unconscious for three days, and Lu Jia didn't know I was awake, so why did she go and buy me food?"
After Rong Mo secured the bed, he stepped forward, gently patted Shen Zhi Qiu's head with his left hand, and said softly, "He buys your favorite foods for every meal, just so that if you wake up, you can eat what you want right away."
Shen Zhi Qiu blinked, feeling a little guilty. She always made everyone worry.
It's said that siblings are of one heart, and Rong Mo saw through Shen Zhi Qiu's thoughts at a glance. He ruffled Shen Zhi Qiu's hair and pretended to scold her, "Don't think nonsense! We will all treat you very well because you deserve the best, you know? Don't make things difficult for yourself, be good. If you feel embarrassed, eat more after the doctor's examination. Lu Jia will be very happy to see you eating well."
"Brother, this wasn't an accident, was it?" Shen Zhi Qiu sat up straight and asked, still shaken.
Before Rong Mo could answer, the doctor arrived at the ward.
"Mr. Rong, I need to conduct a check-up for Miss Shen," the doctor said respectfully to Rong Mo.
Rong Mo nodded and stepped aside to make it easier for the doctor to pass.
Suddenly, the doctor noticed faint red blood seeping from Rong Mo's right sleeve, which was hidden behind his back. He asked with some concern, "Mr. Rong, did your wound accidentally reopen? I see blood. I'll have a nurse come and treat it again."
Rong Mo frowned, but it was too late to stop him; he only gestured with his eyes for him to stop talking. Shen Zhi Qiu, lying on the hospital bed, was somewhat surprised. Looking at Rong Mo's arm hidden behind his back, she immediately understood what was going on. She couldn't help but feel annoyed that she hadn't noticed or asked Rong Mo if he was injured.
"It's alright, Zhi Qiu, don't worry. I'll take care of it. It's just a minor injury, nothing serious." Rong Mo smiled and walked outside, gently closing the door behind him so the doctor could examine Shen Zhi Qiu.
"Is my brother really alright?" Shen Zhi Qiu asked the doctor quickly when Rong Mo wasn't around.
The doctor had come to his senses. Rong Mo had clearly meant for him not to talk about it, so he avoided telling Shen Zhi Qiu that Rong Mo had suffered a mild concussion and had a severe cut on his arm that required more than a dozen stitches after the car accident, yet he still insisted on staying by her side in the hospital.
The doctor reassured him, "Mr. Rong is fine. It's just a minor injury to his arm. Once it's bandaged up and he stays away from water for a while, he'll be alright."
Only then did Shen Zhi Qiu feel at ease and lie down to let the doctor examine her.
