"Manager Yuan, this young lady is looking for General Manager Rong, but she doesn't have an appointment," the receptionist said somewhat awkwardly.
“Miss, I’m sorry, Mr. Rong is very busy. Generally speaking, he can’t see you without an appointment,” Yuan Mengjie said businesslike as she stepped forward.
"Yes, I know." Chu Xia smiled faintly, then turned to the receptionist and said, "But please make a call anyway, thank you."
“This…” The receptionist frowned. “President Rong doesn’t like being disturbed during work hours for such matters.”
"Never mind then, I'll type it myself." Chu Xia said, taking off her gloves and starting to rummage through her bag for her phone.
She took out her phone and dialed Rong Mo's number.
Rong Mo was reading documents and taking a sip of coffee when he saw Chu Xia's call. His hand trembled slightly, and some coffee spilled out.
He grabbed a tissue to wipe the coffee stains, then took a deep breath and answered the phone, "Hello."
"I'm at your company entrance, can you come out and meet me? The receptionist won't let me in." Chu Xia's voice was soft and natural, as if nothing bad had ever happened between the two of them.
The next second, Rong Mo hung up the phone without saying a word.
Chu Xia frowned as she looked at the phone that had been hung up.
"I'm sorry, our CEO Rong doesn't have time to see you," the receptionist said immediately, looking at her.
But the next second, they heard footsteps approaching from afar, each step seemingly revealing a sense of impatient haste.
"Early Summer." Rong Mo stood at the door and softly called her name, his voice gentler than anyone else's.
Yuan Mengjie subconsciously curled her fingers, glancing at Rong Mo with a complicated expression. A hint of tenderness she had never seen before flashed in his eyes. Yuan Mengjie's face instantly turned extremely pale, and the muscles in her cheeks trembled uncontrollably.
"Mmm," Chu Xia replied softly. "I was just passing by, so I came to see you." As she spoke, she picked up the coffee that was being hidden from the bar and said with a smile, "I brought your favorite flat white."
Rong Mo pursed his lips, his eyes seemingly fixed solely on Chu Xia. He stepped forward, took the coffee bag from Chu Xia's hand, and, looking at the snowflakes on her clothes, resisted the urge to reach out and brush them off. He said softly, "It's cold outside, come inside with me."
“Okay.” Chu Xia obediently followed behind him, heading towards Rong Mo’s office.
In the short span of a dozen seconds, Rong Mo's mind was racing. He couldn't help but clench his hands to calm himself down.
"Manager Yuan?" The receptionist waved her hand in front of Yuan Mengjie's eyes. "Manager Yuan, are you alright?"
Yuan Mengjie then snapped out of her daze, somewhat awkwardly pressing her hand down, and said in a low voice, "I'm fine, I was just a little distracted. I'll go now." With that, she strode towards the elevator.
Along the way, she suppressed her disappointment and walked quickly, as if that would make her feel a little better.
She had seen all of Rong Mo's expressions just now.
Even if she were the most dull-witted person, she would understand who the person in front of her was.
Yuan Mengjie stepped into the elevator, looked at herself in the mirror, and couldn't help but give a wry smile.
In the office.
"Have a seat." Rong Mo placed the coffee bag on the table, then took out the coffee, glanced at the label, and placed an iced oat latte in front of Chu Xia.
"Drink less iced coffee, it's easy to get sick in this cold weather." Rong Mo's hand was chilled by the cold coffee, and he couldn't help but frown as he reminded him.
"Yeah, I'm used to it." Chu Xia reached out and took the coffee cup.
Their hands touched briefly, then quickly withdrew.
"I'm sorry." Rong Mo controlled his emotions, trying to make his voice sound as normal as possible.
"It's okay," Chu Xia said softly, lowering her head to open the lid of the coffee and insert the straw.
"You came to see me because of something?" Rong Mo asked directly, not wanting to beat around the bush.
"I'm getting married soon, Rong Mo." Chu Xia took a sip of coffee, feeling the chill seep into her heart.
"I know, you already said that." Rong Mo took a sip of coffee, his mood had calmed down, so his voice began to turn cold.
"I'm sorry, I didn't keep our promise." Chu Xia continued drinking her coffee, her voice somewhat somber.
“It’s all in the past.” Rong Mo frowned, unwilling to bring up the past again, and said with a wry smile, “Since you have chosen someone better and married him, I think he must be someone who makes you very happy. I wish you all the best, Chu Xia. But I don’t want to hear about what happened between you two anymore.”
"Don't you really hate me? Rong Mo, I've destroyed your expectations of so many years, and made your years of waiting come to nothing." Chu Xia suddenly raised her head and looked at Rong Mo.
“Early summer,” Rong Mo couldn’t help but sigh, “Hating you won’t bring me back to that summer, nor will it change anything, so I won’t hate you. It’s pointless. It would only make everyone feel uncomfortable and awkward.”
Chu Xia nodded and sat up straight. "There have been too many rumors these past few days. The news about your Rong family recognizing their biological daughter has been making headlines. Everyone is talking about it, and quite a few gossip accounts have already started digging into your past romantic history."
"Hmm?" Rong Mo frowned, suddenly understanding the purpose of Chu Xia's trip.
"So, you came here today specifically to remind me that if any marketing accounts dig up our past relationship, you hope I will deny that we were ever together in front of the media, right?"
Rong Mo raised his head, looked at Chu Xia seriously, and asked, word by word.
"My fiancé has experienced many bad things before, including betrayal and hurt in relationships, which has left an indelible pain in his heart."
"So, so," Chu Xia hesitated, not even daring to look Rong Mo in the eye to answer his question. After a moment, she seemed to have made up her mind and said, "So, I hope you can help me. If that day really comes, even if the photos are unearthed, I hope you won't reveal the fact that we were together."
Rong Mo stared intently at her, watching her face scrunched up with nervousness and embarrassment, and he suddenly felt somewhat ridiculous.
Why bother?
Why bother?
Rong Mo chuckled self-deprecatingly, "Chu Xia, thank you for stabbing me in the final blow. I will do what you asked, don't worry."
But I hope you won't contact me again.
Let's just go back to being strangers.
"We can still be friends," Chu Xia said, biting her lip.
"No need. Chu Xia, ask yourself honestly, can you really be friends with me?" Rong Mo gave a wry smile. "I don't need another friend like you. I won't say a word about what happened between us."
After saying that, Rong Mo stood up, walked towards the door, and then pulled it open, silently asking Chu Xia to leave.
