“Okay, see what you want to eat.” Rong Mo smiled, adjusted his scarf, and asked Lu Wei.
A smile gradually bloomed on Lu Wei's face, her eyes curving into crescents. She said in a light tone, "I haven't been in the capital for long and I'm not very familiar with it. Could you recommend some local restaurants for me to try?"
"Actually, I want to eat some local snacks, the kind of old-established shops that locals go to, not too big, and maybe not even the nicest environment, but the taste is really authentic..." Lu Wei said, then suddenly paused.
A hint of surprise flashed in Rong Mo's eyes; he hadn't expected Lu Wei to make such a request.
Lu Wei then realized that someone of Rong Mo's status would never go to such a legendary little shop. She smiled somewhat embarrassedly, shook her head gently, and said, "I'm sorry, you probably've never been to a place like this before. I didn't think it through. How about we have some Western food?"
He smiled slightly and said, "It's okay. Actually, I know a really good little shop like the one you mentioned. We can go and have a look together."
A look of surprise appeared on Lu Wei's face. She asked expectantly, "Really? You're really willing to eat at a small shop like this with me?"
Rong Mo nodded and said, "Of course. I said I'd treat you to dinner, so you can choose the place. Since you want to go, and I happen to know the place, why not?"
On the bus.
Rong Mo turned the air conditioner temperature up a bit. "I don't usually like the temperature to be too high, but you must be very sensitive to the cold. Let me adjust it for you to see if it's enough. If not, we can adjust it again."
"It's fine, it's alright." Lu smiled and took a sip of hot tea.
As the music in the car began to play softly, Lu Wei leaned closer to the screen in surprise. "I didn't expect you to like this band?"
"You like La oreja de Van Gogh too? It's a pretty niche band." Rong Mo's eyes lit up, and he looked at Lu Wei with some surprise.
“Yes, I even flew to Spain to see their live performance before,” Lu said with a smile. “My favorite song of theirs is ‘Rosas,’ and I have different feelings every time I listen to it.”
“This is also my favorite song.” Rong Mo’s voice was somewhat cold. He smiled, but couldn’t hide the bitterness in his expression.
Lu Wei wisely refrained from asking further questions and simply smiled as she changed the subject.
Perhaps because they shared the same interests, they got along quite well along the way.
The car quickly stopped in a small alley.
Rong Mo unbuckled his seatbelt, smiled, pointed to a small shop across the street, and said, "We're here."
Lu Wei opened the car door and got out.
A light snow was falling sporadically from the sky, and the swirling snowflakes looked especially romantic under the streetlights, as if a group of little elves were dancing gracefully in the light and shadow.
"Let's go." Rong Mo strode towards the restaurant.
Lu Wei nodded, pulled her light purple down jacket tighter around herself, and then followed, her feet sinking into the white snowflakes. The two walked slowly, one after the other, through the snow.
Rong Mo carefully reminded Lu Wei to watch her step to avoid slipping, while Lu Wei looked down at the deep and shallow footprints Rong Mo had left, feeling a strange warmth in her heart.
Rong Mo patiently instructed, "If you're afraid of slipping, you can follow my footprints, but go slowly."
Lu Wei nodded and followed the footprints forward.
Watching Rong Mo's figure flicker in and out of the light, Lu Wei felt a ripple of emotion for no reason. She tried hard to control herself and calm herself down. However, when Rong Mo turned around and smiled at her, saying "We've arrived," Lu Wei's thoughts were disrupted again. As if she had lost her soul, she bumped directly into Rong Mo's arms.
Rong Mo was stunned for a moment, then gently caught her. In an instant, he felt Lu Wei's body temperature and smelled the fragrance of her hair, a very pleasant gardenia scent, just like the fragrance that Zhi Qiu liked.
He politely pushed Lu Wei away, took her arm, and whispered, "Are you alright? Be careful not to fall."
Lu Wei snapped out of her reverie and said somewhat embarrassedly, "It's nothing, I was just a little distracted."
Just then, the restaurant door opened, and the proprietress poked her head out, smiling as she asked, "Want to eat?"
Rong Mo looked up, smiled at the proprietress, and said, "Aunt Dong, it's been a long time."
"Xiao Mo!" Aunt Dong looked at him with surprise and delight, almost speechless with astonishment, her smile wide and unstoppable.
"Xiao Mo, it's been so long since you've come! Auntie has missed you!"
Aunt Dong warmly took Rong Mo's hand and ushered him into the shop. "Come in quickly! Luckily, I bought some fish today. I'll make you your favorite sweet and sour fish in a bit!"
Rong Mo smiled and said, "Then thank you, Aunt Dong!"
"Why are you being so polite with your auntie!" Aunt Dong gave him a reproachful look. "Sit down first, I'll go cook for you!"
Lu Wei sat down opposite Rong Mo and looked around.
Are there any schools nearby?
"Yes, there are junior high and high schools around here." Rong Mo smiled and took out a tissue to wipe the table.
This is a small restaurant near a school. The shop isn't big, and the decor is a bit outdated, but it has a warm and inviting atmosphere. The walls are covered with posters of various celebrities that students like, and the tables and chairs are arranged neatly and orderly. Although it looks a bit old, it's still clean and tidy.
The restaurant's menu was pasted on the table. Lu Wei glanced at it casually; it listed various home-style dishes and snacks, and the prices were quite reasonable.
"Do you come here often?" Lu asked with a smile.
“Yes, I used to come here often when I was in school, so I’m quite familiar with the owner.” Rong Mo nodded.
A moment later, Aunt Dong brought out the dish, a plate of sweet and sour fish that looked and smelled delicious, and placed it in front of Rong Mo.
"Xiao Mo, come and try it! See if Auntie's cooking skills have gotten worse!" Aunt Dong looked at Rong Mo expectantly.
Rong Mo picked up his chopsticks, took a piece of fish, and put it in his mouth. The fish was tender and juicy, with a perfect balance of sweet and sour flavors—it tasted wonderful.
"Delicious!" Rong Mo exclaimed sincerely. "Aunt Dong, your cooking is still so good!"
Aunt Dong smiled happily and said, "I'm glad you like it! By the way, what have you been busy with lately? I haven't seen you around for a while."
Lu Wei also took a bite and listened quietly to their conversation. It seemed that the boss probably didn't know Rong Mo's identity.
Rong Mo smiled and said, "I've been really busy at the company lately and haven't been able to find the time."
Aunt Dong said, "Work is important, but your health is important too. You must take care to rest!"
Rong Mo nodded and said, "I know, thank you for your concern, Aunt Dong."
"You guys eat first, Auntie will continue to make you some more, all your favorite dishes." With that, Aunt Dong stood up, tied her apron, and hurried back to the kitchen.
