Chu Peng's face turned deathly pale. His eyes widened as if he had heard unbelievable news. His body tensed, a powerful shock rendering him unable to move. His voice choked in his throat, and he could only manage a forceful cough to mask his discomposure. He stood up, gripping the table for support, struggling to maintain his balance.
As Chu Xia's mother, Song Yun, came downstairs, she saw Chu Peng's shocked expression and felt a pang of unease. She hurried down and saw Chu Peng standing there, pale-faced; her heart tightened. She rushed over, grabbed Chu Peng's arm, and asked with concern, "What's wrong? Why do you look so pale?"
