Chapter 448 Encountering Lu Jia

Lu Jia chose to stay at a hotel near the port. Although the hotel wasn't particularly nice, the room was clean and tidy, giving him a comfortable feeling. He swiped his card and took the elevator, which slowly ascended, bringing him into this unfamiliar world.

During his year on the island, Lu Jia seemed to live a life completely isolated from the world. Without the interference of modern communication devices, he led a simple life, working at sunrise and resting at sunset. However, now that he had suddenly returned to the bustling city, he felt somewhat out of place. Everything around him was so unfamiliar and so noisy, leaving him feeling disoriented.

Back in his room, Lu Jia took a hot shower, trying to wash away his exhaustion and confusion. Lying on the white sheets, he stared at the landline phone on the bedside table, a strange emptiness washing over him. He didn't know who to call; not a single phone number came to mind. This feeling made him feel desolate, as if he had become disconnected from the world.

He turned on the television, and a dazzling array of channels came into view. Some channels were broadcasting dramas with captivating plots; others were showing news, reporting on current events both domestically and internationally; still others were advertising various products, leaving him overwhelmed. However, all of this seemed rather uninteresting to Lu Jia. He listlessly flipped through the channels, feeling increasingly empty and lost.

Suddenly, a channel caught his attention. The host was enthusiastically introducing the city's attractions, the camera slowly zooming in from above. Lu Jia stared at the scene on the screen, a strange excitement welling up inside him. He seemed to lose track of what the host was saying; his mind went blank. That sense of familiarity was irresistible; he knew he had to go there.

Lu Jia stared intently at the screen, afraid of missing a single detail. When the camera slowly zoomed in, revealing the words "Imperial Capital," his heart raced instantly.

Lu Jia immediately had a direction.

The next morning, just as dawn was breaking, Lu Jia quickly got out of bed. He sat on the edge of the bed, took a deep breath, and tried to calm his excited emotions.

He knew that all the answers he sought were in the capital. He couldn't wait to unravel the mystery and find the truth that belonged to him.

After some twists and turns, Lu Jia finally arrived in the capital at 11:00 AM. Standing on the bustling street, looking at the busy crowds and prosperous scene around him, he felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity. Although he couldn't remember anything about his past here, that strange sense of familiarity made him feel at ease.

"Zhi Qiu," Lu Jia murmured. "Zhi Qiu, will you be here?" He closed his eyes, and the blurry figure appeared in his mind. He didn't know who she was, but he believed that she must be inextricably linked to his past.

Lu Jia walked on the Imperial Capital Bridge, where cars flowed back and forth, and the river below shimmered in the sunlight. His thoughts drifted with the breeze, immersed in memories of the past. Just then, a black Maybach sped past him.

Inside the car, the bodyguard's eyes widened, and he stammered, "President Rong, I think I see Lu Jia."

Rong Mo was engrossed in reading a financial report when he heard the bodyguard's words and looked up in shock. A flicker of panic and anticipation crossed his eyes as he hurriedly asked, "Where?!"

"On the Imperial Bridge just now. Although that man's attire was a bit strange, I... I'm not sure if it was him, but I saw his face... I think it looked like..." The bodyguard pursed his lips, hesitating, wondering if he had seen wrong.

Rong Mo's heart sank, but a glimmer of hope quickly rekindled within him. He immediately ordered, "Go back and check!"

The bodyguard drove the black Maybach back onto the Imperial Capital Bridge at breakneck speed. The scenery on the bridge flashed past him, but his attention was completely focused on finding the figure that resembled Lu Jia. However, when their car finally came to a stop and returned to the bridge, Lu Jia had vanished without a trace.

The surrounding traffic continued to flow, and pedestrians came and went. The bodyguard looked around, but to no avail.

Rong Mo sat in the car, his face filled with helplessness.

"Mr. Rong, maybe, maybe I'm seeing things." The bodyguard's voice rang out in the car, his tone filled with unease and self-reproach. He wasn't sure if he had just imagined it, but that face definitely reminded him of Lu Jia.

Rong Mo didn't speak; he simply sat quietly. After a while, he finally spoke: "Investigate! Tell me as soon as you have any results! Have someone check all the surveillance footage in the vicinity! You must find the person you saw!" His voice was cold and firm, revealing an unquestionable determination.

"Yes, Mr. Rong." The bodyguard responded and immediately began making calls to arrange for people to investigate the surveillance footage.

Rong Mo pondered for a moment, then spoke again, "Remember, before the results are in, you must not let Zhi Qiu know a single word." A hint of worry flashed in his eyes, clearly not wanting Zhi Qiu to suffer any unnecessary trouble.

"I understand, Mr. Rong, please rest assured." The bodyguard nodded.

After adjusting the cuffs of his suit, Rong Mo took a deep breath, trying to calm his inner turmoil.

Could that person be Lu Jia? If so, why hasn't he contacted Zhi Qiu?

Or was that person really not Lu Jia, but just a bodyguard seeing things?

Rong Mo sighed, wearily rolled down the car window to let the breeze in, trying to dispel the gloom in his heart. He closed his eyes, spoke slowly, his voice slightly hoarse: "Alright, let's go to the company."

The car started up and slowly drove towards the bustling city center. Throughout the journey, Rong Mo's thoughts drifted aimlessly.

Was that really Lu Jia? If it was him, why was he here? And why hadn't he contacted Zhi Qiu?

All day, Rong Mo was restless. In the conference room, he sat at the head of the table, staring blankly at the documents in front of him. Yuan Mengjie was explaining the new project plan, but Rong Mo didn't hear a word she said.

It wasn't until Yuan Mengjie called him several times that Rong Mo finally looked up as if waking from a dream.

Yuan Mengjie pursed her lips and then reiterated the planning proposal she had just given.

After work, Rong Mo stayed in the office to work overtime. He sat at his desk, looking at the mountain of documents in front of him, but had no heart to deal with them.

Just then, Rong Mo's phone suddenly rang.
