The bodyguard sat in front of the computer, his eyes glued to the screen, manipulating the playback progress bar, carefully examining each frame of the video. His expression was serious, his gaze focused, as if searching for some important clue. The surrounding environment was quiet, with only the occasional sounds of keyboard typing and mouse scrolling.
Time ticked by, and the bodyguard began to tire, but he didn't stop. Just as he was about to lose patience, he suddenly saw the figure from that morning.
The figure appeared in the corner of the video, passing by quickly, leaving only a brief image. The bodyguard immediately zoomed in on the footage, observing carefully. The person was tall and slender, with a straight back, wearing a somewhat worn white shirt and a straw sun hat. Even from a distance, it was clear that the hat was old, with frayed edges.
He carried an outdated backpack on his back, its color faded and patched. He looked completely out of place in the bustling capital, like a fisherman, yet also like a vagrant.
However, even in such attire and appearance, the aura he exuded drew attention from those who passed by. For some reason, the bodyguard felt that he was Lu Jia.
Unfortunately, the man's face remained hidden under his straw hat, and the bodyguard's guess could not be confirmed.
With that in mind, he made a phone call and ordered his men to expand the search area. Regardless of whether it was Lu Jia or not, they had to find this person as soon as possible!
On the other side, Lu Jia was walking through a narrow and quiet alley. Sunlight filtered through the sparse leaves, casting dappled shadows on the bluestone pavement.
Suddenly, an enticing aroma wafted over, causing Lu Jia to slow his pace. He followed the scent and spotted a small noodle shop not far away. The shop's signboard was a bit old, but the lettering was still clearly visible, indicating it was a long-established business.
Lu Jia swallowed hard, his stomach growling loudly. He swallowed, closed his eyes, and savored the delicious braised pork ribs melting on his tongue.
He walked over slowly. Although his leg injury had healed, walking for too long still made him feel a little uncomfortable, so he took a break.
She pushed open the door of the noodle shop. The shop was bustling with customers sitting around tables, enjoying the pleasure of their food. However, when Lu Jia looked around, she found that there were no seats left.
He sighed in disappointment and was about to leave when he heard the proprietress call out, "You can sit at the tables and chairs outside too."
Lu Jia then noticed that there were two small tables and chairs under the shade of the tree at the entrance. Lu Jia didn't mind and went over after ordering from the proprietress.
The proprietress responded and turned to get busy. A moment later, she brought a steaming bowl of braised pork rib noodles to Lu Jia, smiling as she said, "Eat slowly. You can get free refills if you're not full."
The noodles were chewy and elastic, the broth was rich and delicious, and the braised pork ribs were fatty but not greasy, melting in your mouth. Lu Jia couldn't wait to pick up her chopsticks and start eating heartily.
Suddenly, a fierce fight broke out in the noodle shop, followed by a crisp cracking sound, as if a noodle bowl had been smashed on the floor. This unexpected turn of events immediately created a tense atmosphere in the shop.
Many diners were terrified and panicked. They put down their chopsticks and rushed out, fearing they would be accidentally injured. The noodle shop was suddenly empty.
Lu Jia also stood up and found that there were no other diners inside. Two men were wrestling, their movements swift and violent, as if they wanted to kill each other. The proprietress, standing nearby, anxiously tried to break up the fight, her face filled with worry and helplessness.
"Stop fighting! Stop fighting!" the proprietress shouted, pleading, but the two men, blinded by rage, showed no intention of stopping.
The next second, the taller man suddenly exerted his strength, executing an over-the-shoulder throw that slammed the thinner man to the ground. The man's body slammed heavily onto the ground, letting out a painful cry.
Seeing this, the tall man grabbed his coat and hurriedly left the scene with the terrified little girl standing to the side as he passed the door. Tears still clung to the girl's face, and her eyes were filled with fear and unease.
The surrounding diners began to whisper among themselves.
"Oh, that was good! You guys didn't see it, did you? That man was trying to harass this girl and was forcing her to give him his WeChat ID. When she refused, he just slapped her across the face, making her face swollen."
"Yeah, yeah, luckily her boyfriend went out to buy water and came back. He saw what happened and immediately rushed over to beat her up!"
"Oh, I see. Well, he deserves it!"
......
The crowd started talking all at once, and everyone understood what was going on.
Lu Jia realized he hadn't paid yet, so he went inside to give the money to the shop owner. But as soon as he entered the shop and reached for his cash, he witnessed a scene that infuriated him.
The proprietress was about to help the man, who was groaning in pain on the ground, to his feet. The man had clearly lost his mind; seeing that he couldn't beat the tall, strong man opposite him, he actually looked at the proprietress, obviously wanting to take his anger out on a woman weaker than himself.
He raised his hand and slapped the proprietress across the face, saying viciously, "Let you see! Let you see! I'll beat you to death!" With that, he shoved the proprietress away. Caught off guard, she hit her waist on the corner of the table, breaking out in a cold sweat from the pain.
