"Having so much fun watching a movie?" Shen Yanshan's voice broke the silence of the living room. He frowned, looking at Shen Meiyan with some disbelief. He had a feeling that his daughter had been acting strangely lately, as if she had something on her mind.
“We can’t keep up with the pace of their young world, so naturally we can’t understand it.” Lin Yueshan walked out of the kitchen carrying a plate of sliced fruit, breaking Shen Yanshan’s confusion. She had a slight smile on her face, trying to ease the tense atmosphere.
"Here, have some fruit." Lin Yueshan handed the sliced watermelon to Shen Yanshan, her tone gentle and kind.
Shen Yanshan took the fork and started eating. He tasted a slice of watermelon and found it quite delicious. His mood calmed down a bit, and he said to Shen Meiyan, "See if you have time in the next few days and meet with the youngest son of the Lin family."
"The Lin family? Which Lin family?" Lin Yueshan's voice was tinged with tension and unease; she had a bad feeling.
"Which other Lin family? Didn't you meet the youngest son of the Lin family? He's quite handsome." Shen Yanshan frowned, looking at Lin Yueshan with some displeasure. "Weren't you there last year when Old Lin treated us to dinner at Yuxi Pavilion?"
"You call him a handsome man?" Lin Yueshan suddenly raised her voice, her face turning ugly, her brows furrowed, and a sarcastic smile playing on her lips. She put down the plate in her hand. "His son is practically a ball of fat, 1.8 meters tall and weighing almost 300 pounds. You're introducing someone like that to your daughter?!" Her voice was filled with anger and dissatisfaction.
Shen Meiyan was taken aback. She had been searching her memory for information about the Lin family's youngest son, only vaguely remembering that she and Shen Yanshan had played together when they were young, but she really couldn't recall what he looked like. She did remember visiting the Lin family with Shen Yanshan when she was young. The eldest son was much older than Shen Meiyan and was always serious, but he was indeed very handsome. So she naturally assumed that the second son should be just as good.
Hearing Lin Yueshan say this, Shen Meiyan was also unhappy and questioned, "Dad, is what Mom said true?"

Upon hearing this, Shen Meiyan felt even more dissatisfied. She glared at Shen Yanshan, her eyes flashing with anger. She knew her father was sacrificing her happiness for the sake of the family's interests. However, she could not accept this arrangement.
"I'm not going. You promised yourself, so go by yourself." She said stubbornly, her voice revealing an indomitable spirit. "Why should I be inferior to Shen Zhi Qiu, who was able to marry Gu Qing Yan?"
Shen Yanshan was taken aback by Shen Meiyan's words; he hadn't expected his daughter to mention Shen Zhiqi. He remained silent for a moment, then sighed deeply. He knew he couldn't force his daughter to do something she didn't want to do. However, he also couldn't stand by and watch the family fall into trouble.
Shen Yanshan's face darkened, and his voice carried a hint of reproach and helplessness.
“Meiyan, you have to understand your father’s difficulties.” His tone softened as he tried to communicate with his daughter. “You know, from childhood to adulthood, your father has never wanted to force you to do things you don’t want to do. Upon hearing this, Shen Meiyan's anger burned even more fiercely. "Look at the kind of daughter you've raised!!" Shen Yanshan stomped his foot in anger, unable to vent his rage anywhere else but on Lin Yueshan beside him. He glared at her and questioned her sternly.
“The child is grown up, she will naturally have her own thoughts.” Lin Yueshan also disapproved of the marriage. After all, she was her own daughter, whom she had doted on since she was a child, so she refused to compromise. She looked at Shen Yanshan, thinking of the despicable things he had done, and said in an even more firm tone, “If you’re going to introduce someone to your child, you should find someone better, right?”
"Better? Where are we going to find something better?" Shen Yanshan was also a little annoyed. "You know perfectly well that our daughter has always been spoiled and willful. She even bragged in front of the Song family's daughter that she was going to marry into the Gu family.
