Chapter 15 This will be his new home.
"This must be Xiao Che, right? Oh, he's so handsome." Aunt Qu enthusiastically pulled Lin Che to look left and right, and the more she looked, the more she liked him.
"Put all the books in the study and the rest in the guest bedroom."
Lin Che was a little overwhelmed by Aunt Qu's enthusiasm, and the tips of her ears turned slightly red.
He nodded and smiled politely: "Hello, Aunt Qu, I'm Lin Che."
Lu Yu stood aside, watching Lin Che being pulled up and down by Aunt Qu, and the corners of his lips rose slightly.
He took off his suit jacket and handed it to Aunt Qu: "Aunt Qu, Lin Che will live here from now on. Please remember his habits."
Aunt Qu took the coat and nodded with a smile: "Of course, don't worry, my young master."
She turned to look at Lin Che again. "Xiao Che, what kind of food do you like to eat? Are there any dietary restrictions? What kind of tea do you usually drink?"
Lin Che felt a little embarrassed by the question and subconsciously glanced at Lu Yu.
Lu Yu was unbuttoning his cuffs when he noticed his gaze and said calmly, "He doesn't like spicy food, he likes light food. He has a bad stomach, so the rice should be cooked softer."
Aunt Qu nodded repeatedly: "Okay, okay, I'll remember that."
She enthusiastically pulled Lin Che towards the living room, "Come on, sit down and rest. I'll make you some tea."
Lin Che was pressed onto the sofa by Aunt Qu, and a cup of hot tea was quickly stuffed into her hand.
The tea is fragrant and is of the best quality, the temperature is just right, neither too hot nor too cold.
Lu Yu came over and sat down next to him. He picked up the tablet on the coffee table and called up the smart home system: "Your fingerprint and iris have been recorded. All the devices in the house can be controlled by voice, or use this."
He handed the tablet to Lin Che, "Set your preferences yourself."
Lin Che took the tablet and looked through it, discovering that the system had already preset a user mode for "Lin Che", including light brightness, air conditioning temperature, curtain opening and closing time, and even his favorite music playlist.
Aunt Qu came over with a plate of cut fruit and said with a smile, "Xiao Che, did you sleep in the guest bedroom last night? This morning I packed up your things and moved them to A Yu's room. Tell me, which couple sleeps separately?"
Lin Che blushed from his neck to his ears when he heard that, and he subconsciously looked at Lu Yu's reaction.
Lu Yu looked normal, picked up the teacup and took a sip: "I'll help you clean up after dinner."
Aunt Qu looked at the two of them and suddenly clapped her hands: "Oh, I forgot there was soup in the pot!" She hurried to the kitchen, looking back as she walked, "Xiao Che, I'll make you my signature steamed sea bass tonight. I guarantee you'll like it!"
Lin Che looked at Aunt Qu's impetuous back, and his tense shoulders unconsciously relaxed.
He looked down at the tablet in his hand, his fingertips lightly sliding across the screen, and a strange feeling arose in his heart.
Everything here was different from what he had imagined.
There was no cold execution of agreements, no distant courtesy, but instead a feeling of... home.
Lu Yu put down his teacup and suddenly said, "Aunt Qu has been working in my house for twenty years and has taken care of me since I was a child."
He paused. "You can trust her."
Lin Che looked up and met Lu Yu's deep gaze.
Those eyes were still as hard to read as usual, but at this moment, he seemed to see a hint of warmth.
Lin Che nodded gently, the corners of her lips curling unconsciously. "Yeah, she's very enthusiastic."
Lu Yu looked at the corners of his mouth that were slightly raised, and his eyes darkened a little.
He reached for the tablet and brought up another interface: "This is the floor plan of the house. You are free to move around, but don't touch the safe on the right side of the study."
Lin Che wrote it down carefully: "Okay."
"If you need anything else, please tell Aunt Qu directly or contact Cheng Yi."
Lu Yu stood up and said, "I'm going to deal with some emails. You can get familiar with the environment."
Lin Che watched Lu Yu's tall back as he walked up the stairs, and only looked away when he disappeared around the corner.
He looked around at the spacious and bright living room. Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows was a lush garden. The sunlight filtered through the gauze curtains, casting mottled shadows on the floor.
This will be his new home.
This realization caused a subtle ripple in Lin Che's heart.
He picked up the tea that was already a little cold and took a sip. The fragrance of the tea spread on the tip of his tongue, with a faint sweet aftertaste.
Just like my mood at this moment, there is an indescribable sweetness in the bitterness.
For dinner, Aunt Qu prepared a table full of dishes, including steamed sea bass, stir-fried shrimp with lily bulbs, yam and pork rib soup, and several refreshing seasonal vegetables. Each dish avoided Lin Che's dietary restrictions, and the rice was also cooked specially to be soft.
"Xiao Che, try this fish. I deliberately used less ginger."
Aunt Qu enthusiastically picked up a piece of fish and placed it in Lin Che's bowl. "You're too thin. You need to eat more."
Lin Che took it a little embarrassedly: "Thank you, Aunt Qu."
Lu Yu sat at the main seat, gracefully filled a bowl of soup, and pushed it towards Lin Che: "Drink the soup first, it nourishes your stomach."
Aunt Qu looked at the two of them, her eyes filled with relief, and she couldn't help but sigh, "If the old lady could see this, I wonder how happy she would be."
She sighed, "She always complained that Mr. Lu was too lonely being alone. Now, the house is finally lively again."
Lin Che paused slightly while holding the spoon, and looked up at Lu Yu.
Lu Yu looked normal, but when he lowered his eyes to drink soup, his eyelashes cast a small shadow under the light, hiding the emotions in his eyes.
After dinner, Aunt Qu resolutely refused to let Lin Che help clean up and urged them to go to bed.
Lu Yu stood up and said to Lin Che, "Go to the study to organize your books?"
Lin Che nodded and followed him upstairs.
The study is spacious and bright, and an entire wall of bookcases is divided into two halves - on the left are Lu Yu's business and finance books, with thick hardcover books neatly arranged, exuding a sense of order that matches his own cold aura.
The right side was empty, waiting to be filled with Lin Che's medical books.
Lin Che opened the cardboard box and took out his books one by one: "Atlas of Anatomy", "Clinical Pharmacology", "Essence of Neurosurgery"...
Lu Yu stood beside him, took the book and arranged it according to his instructions.
"Put this one at the bottom. It's too heavy." Lin Che handed over a thick volume titled "Surgery."
Lu Yu took it, and his fingers accidentally brushed against his fingertips. The warm touch made Lin Che's heart skip a beat.
He lowered his head and continued to tidy up, but he heard Lu Yu suddenly say: "The old lady Aunt Qu mentioned is my grandmother."
Lin Che paused and looked up at him.
Lu Yu's eyes fell on the bookcase, and he said in a low voice, "She passed away last winter."
He paused, "Before leaving, what worried me most was that I hadn't started a family yet."
The study fell silent for a moment, the only sound remaining was the gentle clatter of books being placed on the shelf. Lin Che didn't know what to say, so she could only whisper, "Sorry."
Lu Yu shook his head, picked up the last book and handed it to him: "No need to apologize."
He watched Lin Che put the book away and suddenly said, "If she saw you, she would like you."
Lin Che was stunned, her heart seemed to be gently squeezed.
The bookcase had completely changed its appearance at this moment. The left and right compartments were filled with colorful and heavy professional books, while in the empty compartment in the middle, Lu Yu placed a small photo frame containing their wedding photo taken at the Civil Affairs Bureau today.
Two completely different worlds blend together wonderfully.
Lu Yu stood in front of the bookcase, his eyes sweeping over the vastly different books on either side before finally settling on the photo frame in the middle. The corners of his lips lifted slightly: "That's good."
Lin Che followed his gaze and saw herself smiling slightly in the photo, while there seemed to be a rare softness in Lu Yu's eyes.
Outside the window, the night deepens and the stars twinkle.
The warm yellow light in the study enveloped the two of them, casting their shadows on the bookcase, overlapping and blurring the boundaries.
