Chapter 7 We Are Already Married, Lin Che

Chapter 7 We Are Already Married, Lin Che

When Lu Yu returned to the office, the sunlight outside the floor-to-ceiling windows had already set, and the golden afterglow shone through the glass, dyeing the entire space a warm amber color.

The door was pushed open so gently that it made almost no sound.

His eyes immediately locked onto the figure on the sofa—Lin Che was leaning against the back of the sofa, head slightly tilted, already asleep.

The sunlight gently outlined his features, casting a soft halo on his cold face.

The thin lips that were usually tightly pursed were now slightly relaxed, revealing a hint of natural light pink. The long eyelashes cast fine shadows under the eyes, trembling slightly with the even breathing.

Lu Yu approached with light steps, his eyes involuntarily falling on Lin Che's sleeping face.

Without the frost of defense that he had when he was awake, Lin Che now looked exceptionally young, even with a hint of childish fragility.

A few strands of black hair fell naturally on his forehead, rising and falling slightly with his breathing.

The snacks and tea on the coffee table were still untouched, only the mobile phone screen was still on, showing an alarm that would ring in forty minutes.

Lu Yu's gaze softened. He gently picked up the neglected wool blanket and carefully unfolded it. The moment he leaned over to cover Lin Che, he could smell the faint mint scent of her hair, mixed with the warmth of the sun.

As soon as the blanket touched his shoulders, Lin Che's eyelashes trembled slightly, but he didn't wake up. His head unconsciously rubbed against the inside of the sofa, like a small animal seeking warmth.

This unintentional little action made Lu Yu's mouth corners unconsciously rise.

After covering Lin Che with the blanket, Lu Yu didn't leave immediately. He knelt on one knee on the carpet next to the sofa, keeping a perfect distance from her, and quietly stared at Lin Che's sleeping face.

The sunlight danced on his eyelashes, adding a touch of warmth to his usually cold eyes and brows.

Lu Yu's gaze swept across the tip of Lin Che's ear, which was slightly red. It was almost transparent in the sunlight, and tiny blood vessels could be seen.

His fingers moved, as if wanting to touch, but stopped in mid-air, and finally he just gently pushed the falling hair aside.

There were soft footsteps outside the office. Lu Yu immediately raised his index finger to his lips and made a hushed gesture to Cheng Yi, who was about to knock on the door. Cheng Yi nodded in understanding and quietly retreated.

Lu Yu stood up, walked to the desk, picked up a document, and glanced back at the person sleeping soundly on the sofa. He hesitated for a moment, then walked back to the sofa, turned his phone to silent mode, and gently placed it next to Lin Che's hand.

Lu Yu was sitting in an office chair not far away, processing documents, and from time to time he would look up at the figure sleeping peacefully on the sofa. His eyes would always soften unconsciously when they touched the figure curled up under the blanket.

As the last ray of sunlight faded from Lin Che's face, his brow furrowed slightly, as if sensing the change in temperature. Lu Yu immediately put down his documents and stood up to adjust the air conditioning. When he returned to his seat, he found that Lin Che had changed his posture, burying half of his face in the blanket, revealing only his closed eyes and a small section of his straight nose.

This unconscious action made Lu Yu's heart feel like it was gently bumped by something.

The sky outside the window gradually darkened. Lu Yu didn't turn on the lights, letting the twilight shroud the office, leaving only the small table lamp on his desk. In the dim light, he looked at Lin Che's peaceful sleeping face.

Lin Che was awakened by the subtle sound of shuffling papers.

His eyelashes fluttered a few times, and as consciousness gradually returned, the first thing he felt was the soft wool blanket on his body, with a faint scent of cedar. He opened his eyes and saw that only a single desk lamp was on in the dim office, casting a warm glow in the twilight.

"woke up?"

A deep voice came from the side, and Lin Che turned his head sharply, only then realizing that Lu Yu was sitting on the sofa next to him, a few documents on his knees, looking up at him. The warm yellow light cast a soft shadow on his deep features, softening his usually sharp features.

Lin Che subconsciously sat up straight, the blanket slipping from his shoulders. He glanced out the window at the completely dark sky, then looked down at the long-outdated alarm on his phone, his brows furrowed slightly.

"I turned off your alarm." Lu Yu explained the cell phone alarm to Lin Che in a concise manner.

Lu Yu closed the file and casually placed it on the coffee table. "You seem to be sound asleep." His gaze fell on Lin Che's face, and his voice was softer than usual. "Is hospital work tiring?"

This question came so suddenly that Lin Che was stunned.

He raised his hand to rub his still heavy temples, his voice slightly hoarse from just waking up: "It's okay, just these few days..."

The words stopped at his lips, he didn't want to mention those sleepless nights.

"Have you rested well?" Lu Yu asked. "If you're still tired, we can have dinner another day."

Lin Che shook his head. "No, I'm fine." He glanced out the window. "Let's go to the restaurant now?"

Lu Yu stood up and picked up the coat draped over the back of the sofa: "Well, the car is waiting downstairs.

When Lin Che followed Lu Yu into the underground garage, a chill immediately hit him from all directions.

He subconsciously tightened the collar of his thin shirt, and the next second, a suit jacket with body temperature fell gently on his shoulders.

"Put it on." Lu Yu's voice sounded particularly low in the dim garage, and there was a bit of concern hidden in his tone that did not allow for rejection.

Lin Che was stunned, the faint scent of cedar from the coat lingering on her nose.

He hesitated for a second, but finally put it on obediently.

Lu Yu's coat was more than one size too big for him. The cuffs hung down to his fingertips, and the hem almost covered his thighs. He seemed to be completely enveloped by the other person's aura.

"Thank you." He whispered, his voice almost inaudible.

Lu Yu didn't respond, but simply reached out and opened the back door for him. The door closed gently, and Lu Yu got in from the other side and sat down not too far from him.

In the enclosed space, the scent of cedar becomes stronger.

Lin Che unconsciously moved closer to the car door, trying to create some distance.

He turned his head to look at the night scene rapidly receding outside the window, but found that Lu Yu's profile was reflected in the car window - the man was looking down at his mobile phone, his sharp outline was dyed with changing colors by the neon lights outside the window, and his long eyelashes cast a small shadow under his eyes.

As if noticing his gaze, Lu Yu suddenly looked up, and their eyes met unexpectedly through the car window.

Lin Che hurriedly looked away, only to hear a low chuckle.

"Are you cold?" Lu Yu asked, with a hint of smile in his voice.

Lin Che shook her head, only to find that her fingertips were indeed a little cold.

Just as he was about to hide his hands in his overly long sleeves, a warm palm suddenly covered him.

"Your hands are so cold." Lu Yu's tone was calm, as if he was just stating a fact, but the temperature from his palm was surprisingly hot. His thumb gently stroked the back of Lin Che's hand.

Lin Che's heart skipped a beat. She tried to pull her hand back, but the other party held it firmly, not allowing her to refuse.

Lu Yu's hand was a whole circle bigger than his, and could completely wrap around his fingers, and warmth came continuously from the touching skin.

"Mr. Lu..."

"Call me by my name." Lu Yu interrupted him, his voice low, "We're already married, Lin Che."

These words made Lin Che's ears burn.

He pursed his lips and tried to speak: "Lu...Yu."
