Chapter 65 Masquerade Ball

Chapter 65 Masquerade Ball

The ball was about to begin, and the hall gradually became lively.

This ball was Mr. Suzuki's last effort to lure Kid into his trap. Otherwise, if he had made two front-page headlines without even seeing Kid, wouldn't he have become a laughing stock across the country?

However, rather than where Kidd is, people are discussing more about when they will be able to catch a glimpse of the Black Swan Heart.

The white demon Amuro stood in an inconspicuous corner of the venue, wearing a mask and strange clothes just like the various people around him.

But his upright posture still attracted the attention of many young women, just like at a dance in their school days.

Many people used to praise his good looks, saying he had both excellent skin and bone structure. Now, he only shows half of his face below the bridge of his nose, but it is precisely this mysterious mask that adds to his mystique and makes him even more captivating.

However, the man's attention is now focused on another, more mysterious woman.

She was a witch dressed in a wide black robe, with a small white anemone flower pinned to her pointed hat. Her entire body was devoid of any bright colors, consisting only of black and white, even her lipstick was black.

But he still noticed a wisp of brown hair peeking out from under the black hat.

Just as he was about to step forward, he heard someone call out from behind, "Amuro, you're here so early!"

Amuro turned around and saw that it was Santa Claus with a white beard and wearing a baggy bright red suit. He laughed and said, "Mr. Mori, you must have put a lot of effort into this outfit!"

"A little trouble is fine, my goal is to win the Best Outfit Award tonight!"

"This really deserves the Best Costume Award?" Santa Claus was met with merciless ridicule from the princess.

When Mori turned around, he saw two princesses from the Kingdom of Arendelle standing next to him—Elsa and Anna. He asked in surprise, "Lan, what are you doing here? Weren't you in the hospital?"

"I'm almost fully recovered, and I'm so bored staying in the hospital room every day, so I just wanted to come out with Sonoko for some fresh air! Don't worry, I won't eat anything indiscriminately. But Dad, I heard you went out drinking again and got completely drunk. How come you have time to come?"

"Nonsense! I have a huge capacity for alcohol, how could I get drunk?"

"Then let's make this clear, no drinking tonight!"

Listening to the father and daughter's conversation, Amuro frowned slightly behind his mask. Ran and Sonoko's appearance was unexpected. But he comforted himself that it was no big deal, just a minor incident.

However, what Amuro didn't expect was that this was just the most insignificant of many "small" episodes.

"Trick or Treat!" Three fanged little devils suddenly rushed over.

Sonoko was almost laughing in exasperation: "You little devils, Halloween is long over!"

"But the masquerade ball originated from Halloween, the professor told us!"

"By the way, where is the Doctor?"

"The professor is taking care of Ai and Conan; they both have a cold and can't come."

"That's a bit of a shame, how come they all got sick out of nowhere... Here, have some candy!" Sonoko grabbed a handful of uniquely shaped and beautifully packaged lollipops and gave them to the children.

"Thank you, Your Highness!" she said, and then ran off to exchange her spoils with the other children.

"Sonoko, you look so beautiful in that outfit!" The catwoman, dressed in a black bodysuit, walked over with a smile.

"Wow, sis?! Your style is so unusual today! Wait, didn't you say you were going back to Tokyo?"

"But I would really regret missing such a rare masquerade ball! Anyway, nobody knows anyone here, so it's nice to let loose once in a while!"

“Ayako, is that you?” A vampire baron stepped forward and asked tentatively. “I’ve never seen you dressed like this before, and I didn’t even dare to recognize you just now.”

"Huh? Yu-Yu San, what brings you here too?"

"Because you said you wanted to come to the ball, I wanted to give you a surprise!"

"Hey, future brother-in-law, since that's the case, why don't you dress up as Batman? That would make you a perfect match!"

The vampire was a little embarrassed: "I didn't know who Ayako would be dressed as, and this outfit was borrowed from a friend at the last minute..."

The White Devil felt he had heard enough of these mundane family matters and decided to shift his attention back to the black-robed witch.

However, the witch was no longer there. Just as Amuro was looking for her, he saw a strange pair of people entering the venue.

One of them was Kamen Rider, who didn't seem particularly special. However, the one next to him looked rather strange:

Wearing a turban and a crane-feather cloak, and waving a feather fan, he was handsome and refined, resembling a scholar.

Although his face was covered by a white veil, anyone could recognize him as Zhuge Kongming.

The incongruity of Superman and the strategist standing together stems not only from the era but also from the dimension.

Needless to say, Nakamori, eager to capture Kid, dragged Takaaki along to the ball.

"Jing, you really missed out by not coming today!"

Amuro silently felt sorry for his childhood friend and planned to secretly take a couple of photos to commemorate the occasion.

However, Amuro didn't have time to think about such trivial matters right now; he needed to find the witch as soon as possible.

Tonight, the organization is going to get rid of Shirley.

In addition to Bourbon, the codenamed members participating in this operation included Vermouth, Kiel, Chianti, Cohen, and Calvados.

At first glance, the list seems to have quite a lot of people, but upon closer inspection, you'll find that one of the most important people is missing: Gin.

It's unclear whether it was because Gin only found Akemi and failed to discover Sherry's punishment in the last operation, or because after hearing that Akai wanted to avenge Akemi by killing Gin, that gentleman was unwilling to sacrifice his subordinate.

In conclusion, Gin is not on the official list.

His younger brother Vodka also took a vacation.

"But is Gin really not going to show up tonight?"

He expressed skepticism about this.

At this moment, the band began playing a melodious waltz: the ball officially began.

Couples entered the dance floor, dancing gracefully to the music.

Amuro thought to himself without thinking: This music doesn't match my makeup at all!

Suddenly, a discordant note appeared amidst the beautiful music: "Oops!"

"Ayako, are you alright?" The vampire baron hurriedly helped his fiancée up. They hadn't even started dancing when Ayako twisted her ankle.

"Yuzo, I'm so sorry. It seems this outfit doesn't suit me very well; I can barely walk now."

"It's alright, let me help you over there to rest for a while."

The kind and considerate Amuro quickly followed and said, "Here are some ice cubes; you can use them to cool your body."

"thank you!"

As he passed over the vampire baron's shoulder, a dark shadow flashed before Amuro's eyes: it was the witch!

A man asked her to dance, but she refused.

Admirers continued to flock to her, and when the witch refused three times in a row, the white devil stepped forward and, with a gentlemanly air, extended an invitation: "Beautiful witch, may I have the honor of dancing with you?"

"I'm sorry, but my answer will probably disappoint you." A pleasant voice came from behind the black mask.

"Then let's not have any regrets. Everyone should have a great time at the ball, shouldn't they?"

The witch chuckled and said, "You really are different from others, Mr. Amuro."

Amuro politely gestured an invitation to the other person, and the witch happily placed her hand, clad in long-sleeved black gloves, on the other person's hand.

The two stood still on the dance floor, and Amuro noticed that the other person's posture was stiff: "You look a little nervous, Miss Witch."

"This is just a human's instinctive reaction to unknown dangers."

"So I look dangerous?"

"I don't know, so I call it unknown."

Amro smiled without saying a word, just about to dance to the music. But the band seemed to grant his wish, seamlessly switching to another piece at that moment: the elegant waltz instantly transformed into a passionate tango.

The dancers were stunned for a moment, then reacted and blended into the more unrestrained and joyful melody, their spirits soaring.

However, the scene on this side is slightly different: the witch's dancing skills are not very good, and her dance steps are clumsy and awkward.

But Amuro was a very patient teacher; at least he made sure neither of them stepped on the other's foot, and they even jumped quite well.

When the song ended, Amuro praised her, saying, "Miss Witch is the most talented dancer I have ever seen."

She accepted the compliment with a smile, and the anemone on her hat became even more beautiful and charming.

Amuro returned to the corner and reported to the man, "Shirley has appeared."

"It's the witch in black."

Bourbon knew very well that Shirley couldn't dance at all, let alone tango.

Because the organization doesn't need its scientists to become socialites!

Just then, the band abruptly stopped: Phantom Thief Kid appeared!

"Good heavens! Uncle actually dressed up like that!" Sonoko wanted to gouge her eyes out when she saw the chubby Kid in front of her.

"Distinguished guests, dear friends! First of all, thank you all for coming. There is only one purpose in holding this ball: to announce the reappearance of the Black Swan Heart! I know you are all eager to see it, and I know that Kidd will not let this opportunity slip by. So today, I would like to ask you all to witness how I catch this notorious thief!"

As soon as he finished speaking, all the lights in the hall went out, plunging the surroundings into darkness.

Exclamations rose and fell, and Nakamori shouted to maintain order: "Don't panic, this is Kid's trick!"

Suddenly, a blindingly bright white light shone on the center of the dance floor.

When everyone saw where the light was pointing, their gasps of surprise turned into screams of agony: Ahhh!

The platform that had been used to display the gems had descended. But instead of the Black Swan Heart that Mr. Suzuki had anticipated, it bore her curse:

A corpse.

The power system had not yet been restored, and only the beam of light shone precisely on the corpse, making the atmosphere even more sinister and eerie.

"Quickly put him down!" Mori and Nakamori ran over quickly, with Amuro, who seemed momentarily dazed, following closely behind.

Upon closer inspection, he realized he recognized the deceased.

He was a wise and virtuous man.
