Huo Beichen scrutinized her with a critical eye. "Undeniably, your medical skills are indeed superb, but you cannot underestimate a man's determination to protect his family."
"Tsk tsk," Hua Fei scoffed without any politeness, "President Huo's feelings for Miss Jiang are truly touching."
Huo Beichen remained silent, neither denying nor responding.
Hua Fei carefully put away the silver needles and then asked, "Has Mr. Huo ever been to Huadan City in Country A?"
Huo Beichen's eyes flickered slightly: "I've never been there."
Hua Fei smiled and said, "That's a pity. That's my hometown, and the place where I truly became an excellent doctor."
"What do you mean?" Huo Beichen seemed nonchalant, but in reality, his eyes were fixed on Hua Fei.
“Three years ago, a female patient came to me. Judging from her accent, she sounded a bit like Mr. Huo.”
"She was more than nine months pregnant at the time, and the situation was extremely critical, almost beyond my capabilities."
"I didn't expect her to be a doctor. Even under those circumstances, she was able to guide me and help her give birth smoothly."
"It was because of her guidance that I broke through the bottleneck that had plagued me for many years, and my medical skills made rapid progress."
As she spoke, she glanced at him.
My gaze deliberately probed his face.
However, she didn't find the surprise and panic she had imagined on his face.
He remained calm, deep in thought.
If you say he's faking it, then his faking skills are truly exceptional.
"What's that woman's name?" Huo Beichen asked.
Hua Fei shook her head. "She told me to call her Mary, but I know that's not her real name."
"She was a pitiful woman."
Huo Beichen frowned: "She has superb medical skills and can be considered to have them as her own. How can you say she's pitiful?"
Hua Fei disagreed: "Even if you are extremely wealthy and live a high position, what good is it if you lack what you care about most?"
"Later, her child was lost, and the child she risked her life to save... could never be found."
Huo Beichen was slightly taken aback.
"Mr. Huo, do you have any regrets?" Hua Fei suddenly asked.
“I…no,” Huo Beichen replied.
But his hesitation betrayed him.
Hua Fei smiled and said, "Then I should congratulate you."
She squatted down to clean the cabinet where the medicinal herbs were stored: "I have only one goal: to cure Zeze's illness."
"I don't believe that my act of healing and saving lives would be a hindrance to anyone."
"If anyone is obstructed, it only means that there is something wrong with that person."
Huo Beichen opened his mouth but couldn't say a word. He was speechless at Hua Fei's forceful logic.
Back in the study, I saw Jiang Xiaowei sitting slumped on the sofa, her face showing signs of crying.
Upon seeing him, her tears, which she had already stopped, began to flow again.
"What's wrong?" Huo Beichen came to her side and handed her the tissue box.
"Brother Beichen," Jiang Xiaowei said between sobs, "I really don't know what to do."
“I have tried my best to be a good mother to Zeze, and I don’t know why things turned out this way.”
"Even if he doesn't acknowledge me as his mother, he can't throw mud at me!"
"I am the eldest daughter of the Jiang family, and I was spoiled by my parents. I have everything I want. Why would I scare a little child?"
She became more and more upset as she talked.
Huo Beichen put his arm around her shoulder and said, "Don't be sad, I believe you."
Jiang Xiaowei looked up with teary eyes: "You really believe me?"
Huo Beichen picked up the phone and called the housekeeper: "Bring Zeze to the study."
A moment later, the butler brought Zeze over.
Zeze stood by the door, too afraid to come in, her eyes filled with fear.
The butler instinctively moved closer to him, letting him know he wasn't alone.
"Butler, you can go ahead and get busy," Huo Beichen said, "I have something to say to Zeze."
Although the housekeeper was very worried, he couldn't disobey the boss.
"Zeze, come in." Huo Beichen said after the butler left.
Zeze shook his head and glanced at Jiang Xiaowei with fear.
“You can stand at the door,” Huo Beichen said without forcing him, “but you have to listen carefully to what your father says.”
"Dr. Hua is here to treat your illness. Don't listen to anything she says except what's related to your treatment. Do you understand?"
Zeze nodded reluctantly.
"Also, the vase you broke today was a gift from Aunt Jiang to Dad. It was very valuable. What do you think you should have done?"
Zeze couldn't help but retort: "That night, she hid behind the vase and scared me!"
"Shut up!" Huo Beichen shouted angrily. "You've already forgotten what I just told you?"
"Aunt Jiang is Dad's fiancée and your future mother. You have no evidence whatsoever, yet you slander your elder with just your words?"
"Is this how your father taught you?"
Zeze dared not argue any further, tears of resentment welling up in her eyes.
"Remember this, you, Dad, and Aunt Jiang are the family." Huo Beichen waved his hand angrily. "You're not a child anymore, go back to your room and reflect on your actions."
After saying that, he turned his head away, clearly not wanting to look at him any longer.
Zeze turned and ran away.
He ran straight to the treatment room, threw himself into Hua Fei's arms, and burst into tears.
I feel extremely wronged.
Hua Fei's eyes immediately welled up with tears of heartache. She held back her emotions and quietly hugged Ze Ze, letting him cry out his grievances.
After he calmed down, she finally learned what had happened.
She lowered her eyes, and no one could see the true emotions in them.
His relationship with Jiang Xiaowei was indeed quite deep.
What does a child born to a woman with no status or identity count for?
"Zeze, be good. You're a little man, you need to be brave."
"As you grow up, you will encounter grievances and setbacks. If you are not brave, how will you face them?"
Zeze wiped away her tears and nodded firmly.
Then he said, "My mother never lets me suffer. I miss my mother."
Hua Fei asked, "What kind of person is your mother?"
Zeze answered without hesitation, "My mother is beautiful, smart, and very brave."
“My mother used to live with me in a small house. A snake crawled into the house, but she wasn’t afraid at all.”
"She took some powder from the drawer and sprinkled it on the floor, and the snake quickly ran away."
Hua Fei laughed and said, "Do you know what kind of powder that is?"
Zeze nodded. "My mom told me it's sulfur powder, the purest kind."
“My mom can buy the most authentic ones. She says that many people don’t know any better and end up buying fakes.”
When talking about his mother, Zeze's emotions gradually stabilized, and a proud expression appeared on his little face.
Hua Fei smiled and nodded. "Your mother must be a very skilled doctor too."
"Where did she go?" she then asked.
Zeze thought for a moment: "She went to a very far place, but she told me before she left that she would come back to pick me up."
