A bitter taste rose in Lin Zhibai's mouth.
Whether he was unfaithful or not is not important. What is important is that Liang Zixin and his family actually knew about his past with Gu Fanyan.
It's clear that they hold a special place in Gu Fanyan's heart.
"Mom!" Liang's father called out softly to Dai Lili, "Young Master Lin is a guest, we should refrain from interfering in his private affairs."
Liang's father also had another consideration: the Lin family was wealthy, and the Gu family was equally powerful. Even if the two families had grudges, they couldn't say too much.
Dai Lili snorted and gave her son a disdainful look. "That's right, you should treat Young Master Lin well."
"Fan Yan, let's go upstairs to talk."
She took Gu Fanyan and Liang Zixin upstairs.
The rest of the Liang family were left downstairs.
The atmosphere was slightly awkward, and for a moment, the Liang family didn't know what to say.
Lin Zhibai took the initiative to break the awkward atmosphere: "President Liang, you just mentioned that project in Nanwan, how much investment is needed again?"
“Yes,” Mr. Liang immediately chimed in, “Let me tell you, Young Master Lin, that project has three development plans…”
Dai Lili led Gu Fanyan to her study.
Her study is quite unique, with medieval-style furniture and, in addition to books, many antiques and trinkets she has collected from all over the world.
The cup she used to brew tea for Gu Fanyan was also quite old; it had once been a beloved possession of a royal princess.
Gu Fanyan liked being here; it made her feel calm and peaceful.
"Grandma, why is Lin Zhibai here?" Liang Zixin sat down casually and asked with dissatisfaction, "Our family wouldn't stoop to currying favor with the Lin family, would we?"
Dai Lili glanced at him. "If you could win Fan Yan's heart, you wouldn't be in this situation. Who told you to be so useless?"
Liang Zixin looked at Gu Fanyan, her face full of confusion: "Fanyan, what is it about me that I can't compare to that Lin guy?"
Gu Fanyan smiled and said, "I am a woman with a child, and I am not good enough for you."
Liang Zixin immediately said in a serious tone, "Let me tell you a secret, I have a special fondness for young married women."
Gu Fanyan was speechless: "I really want to kick you."
Liang Zixin chuckled.
Dai Lili sighed softly to herself.
Gu Fanyan and Liang Zixin have a visibly good relationship; Gu Fanyan can even show a true side of herself that ordinary people don't see in front of Liang Zixin.
But if men and women can joke like that, they're basically not in a romantic or marital relationship.
Although Dai Lili felt sorry, she didn't insist and said, "Lin Zhibai came here on his own."
Gu Fanyan straightened her expression and asked, "What did he say after he arrived?"
Dai Lili shook her head: "We talked about some company business matters, but not much else."
“Fan Yan,” she said, “it seems he’s after you.”
"How did he know Fan Yan would come to my house?" Liang Zixin asked.
Dai Lili smiled meaningfully; the reason for that is self-evident.
Gu Fanyan lowered her head and took a sip of hot tea, feeling a surge of irritation.
How else could Lin Zhibai know? He just asked around.
“Fan Yan,” Dai Lili comforted, “Don’t keep things to yourself, talk to him about it.”
Gu Fanyan came out of the side door of the villa and wandered alone in the back garden.
Under the lamplight, a figure slowly approached her. "Fan Yan," the man called out to her, followed by a soft sigh.
She turned to look at his face, her eyes filled with coldness: "Lin Zhibai, were you following me?"
"I don't."
"You had someone investigate me?"
"You still want to deny it? You wouldn't be trying to say that you also happen to have business dealings with the Liang family, would you?"
Lin Zhibai was silent for a moment, then said, "I just want to find out what your relationship with Liang Zixin is."
"What do I have to do with him? What does it have to do with you?" Gu Fanyan questioned.
A bitter smile flickered across Lin Zhibai's lips. "Fan Yan, do you have to say that...? These past few years, I've been waiting..."
"I thought if I matured a bit, we would still have a future..."
He was so sincere, so cautious, with a deep sadness in his eyes.
Lin Shao, who is seen as aloof and superior by everyone, is now just a disappointed person who cannot get what he wants.
At this moment, Gu Fanyan admitted that she had softened her heart.
She seemed to see that boy, looking at her with the same expectant yet timid eyes, just waiting for her to give him a word of affirmation.
She instinctively wanted to take a step forward, but a voice rang in her mind.
Are you sure you want to go forward?
This time, won't all the pain and suffering we've experienced come back to us again?
If she could do it all over again, could she still get through it?
The step that hadn't yet been taken back took a few more inches.
"Lin Zhibai, what are you waiting for?" she said calmly. "Just because you're waiting doesn't mean others have to turn around."
"Besides, didn't we already make things clear between us at the airport three years ago?"
"Fan Yan..." Lin Zhibai felt his blood surging and his thoughts racing, with so many things he wanted to say, "Aren't you going to wait for me anymore!"
In the end, he only said this one sentence.
Gu Fanyan bit her lip, the words she wanted to say were on the tip of her tongue, but she couldn't utter them...
"What makes you think someone will wait for you forever?" Suddenly, a strong arm wrapped around her shoulder. "Fan Yan is with me now, we even have a child together, what more do you want?"
Liang Zixin has arrived.
Lin Zhibai's face turned pale, his gaze fixed on Gu Fanyan: "Is the child really his?"
Gu Fanyan's lips trembled slightly.
“Of course, you can check the household registration if you don’t believe me,” Liang Zixin replied. “The child’s name is Liang Mufan, the father is Liang Zixin, and the mother is Gu Fanyan.”
"It's written clearly on the household registration certificate, oh, but it's written in a foreign language, so I don't know if you can understand it."
"Mu Fan, Mu Fan..." Lin Zhibai murmured.
"Alright, everything's clear now, Fanyan, let's go." Liang Zixin put his arm around Gu Fanyan and they left.
Lin Zhibai wanted to stop him, but he had no strength at all.
He felt dizzy and his head was spinning. He felt a tightness in his chest, and the tightness in his chest became more and more intense. Finally, he couldn't help but vomit with a "whoosh".
But he just gagged and didn't vomit anything.
He couldn't hold on any longer, and leaning against the tree trunk, he finally collapsed to the ground, his mind echoing with three words: Liang Mufan, Liang Mufan...
Gu Fanyan walked to another secluded spot in the garden, where she could no longer move.
Tears streamed down my face like a dam had been opened.
Liang Zixin sighed softly: "I saw you were being questioned by him and couldn't say anything, so I jumped in to defend you. You can still regret it. I can turn around and explain to him right away."
Gu Fanyan shook her head, tears streaming down her face.
“I knew you were conflicted,” Liang Zixin said. “You feel sorry for him, but you’re also afraid to start over.”
"Fan Yan, have you ever been to a gambling table?"
"There are never any winners among gamblers, but if you can't accept the consequences of your bets, at least you can turn around and walk away before you even get to the table."
Liang Zixin's eyes were dim, as if he too had some sad things weighing on his heart.
