Chapter 23

Chapter 23

Jiang Wanwan paused in her hand as she tossed her hair, thought for a moment, and then smiled at Kuang Ye, saying, "Okay."

When paying, Kuang Ye stood next to Jiang Wanwan and said kindly, "Sister, you can ask me any questions you have about your hair in the future, and I will definitely answer them for you."

At that moment, the sound of receiving five thousand yuan rang out, and Kuang Ye's smile became even more genuine.

Jiang Wanwan raised an eyebrow and said, "Then let's add each other on WeChat."

She handed her QR code to Kuang Ye and asked him to scan it.

Kuang Ye looked surprised. He remembered that he had asked Jiang Wanwan for her contact information before and was rejected, although he had only said it casually and did not really want it.

Jiang Wanwan smiled slightly, patiently waiting for the other party to add her as a friend.

She didn't add him at first because they weren't familiar with each other, but now that she's invested so much money in the store, if he runs away, she can still find him and demand an explanation.

When I walked out of the barbershop, it was already dark outside.

When Jiang Wanwan returned home, she was stunned to see the food covered with plates on the dining table. Then she smiled as she looked at the closed bedroom.

After she finished eating, she put the washed dishes into the cupboard and suddenly noticed that the dish soap in the house was almost gone.

She opened the refrigerator again and found that there was very little food left.

Jiang Wanwan thought for a while and decided to go to the supermarket to do some shopping tomorrow.

"Ah Xiao, do you want to go to the supermarket with me tomorrow?" Jiang Wanwan arrived at the man's door, knocked on the door, and called out through the door panel.

She was worried that Mr. Xiao was going to get bored staying at home all the time.

About half a minute later, a cold voice came from inside: "Okay."

The man didn't open the door, and a hint of disappointment flashed across Jiang Wanwan's eyes. She had just gotten her hair permed and wanted him to admire it.

Jiang Wanwan pouted and stomped her feet as she walked back to her room.

At this moment, Xiao Mingzhu was pale, leaning against the headboard, with veins bulging on his forehead.

His mind was filled with a multitude of fragmented memories, chaotic and intertwined, causing his head to throb.

Sweat dripped down his chin, and when the man opened his eyes, they were clear.

After a long while, Xiao Mingzhu suddenly chuckled, a strange smile playing on his lips, his eyes flashing with an eerie dark light.

The next day, Jiang Wanwan and Xiao Mingzhu went to the supermarket.

She pushed her shopping cart and did a big shopping spree in the supermarket. In no time, the cart was full.

"Ah Xiao, how about we have chicken soup today? I'll cook it myself!" Jiang Wanwan said enthusiastically.

Although she can't cook much, she's quite good at making chicken soup, because it's a family recipe passed down from her mother, Ms. Fang, who taught her how to make it step by step.

Xiao Mingzhu nodded and said gently, "Okay, then I'll assist Wanwan."

Looking into the man's affectionate gaze, Jiang Wanwan suddenly felt a little awkward, as if something was off.

So she quickly looked away, pointed to the meat counter, and said, "Let's go take a look over there."

The two arrived at the raw meat display case and looked at the plucked chickens, feeling somewhat bewildered.

She stared at the chickens, all of which looked almost identical, and murmured, "They're all the same, how am I supposed to choose?"

Previously, her mother would buy everything, and she could simply follow the steps. But this time, she was asked to buy it herself, and she was truly at a loss.

At this moment, seeing Jiang Wanwan's dilemma, the supermarket employee selling meat immediately and enthusiastically recommended to her, "Young lady, this one is just right, big and sturdy!"

The employee pointed to a chicken in the corner and praised it to the skies, making Jiang Wanwan feel as if she would miss out on some delicious food if she didn't eat it.

"Okay, that's it then." After listening to the other party's introduction, Jiang Wanwan made up her mind and prepared to let him pack up the chicken.

The employee's smile grew even brighter. "Okay, please wait a moment."

Unexpectedly, Xiao Mingzhu, who had been silent all along, suddenly called out to the employee, "Wait a minute."

The employee, who was about to grab the chicken, froze, looking at the man who had spoken. "What's wrong?"

Xiao Mingzhu stepped forward from behind Jiang Wanwan and said slowly, "We want this one."

He pointed to a chicken in the middle of the display case, indicating that the other party should pack it up.

“Young man, this one is great! You young people don’t have much experience, so listen to your uncle and buy this one.”

The older employee looked disapproving of Xiao Mingzhu's decision, and Jiang Wanwan, standing beside him, also didn't understand his actions.

At this moment, Xiao Mingzhu slightly curled the corner of his mouth and calmly said, "Although that chicken is big, it is an old chicken, and the meat is dry and tough."

The employee's expression gradually turned to shock, and then he heard the man continue, "And the one in the middle is exactly one and a half years old, perfect for making soup."

Upon hearing Xiao Mingzhu's words, Jiang Wanwan's mouth gaped open wide enough to fit an egg. She stared blankly at the man, her eyes filled with admiration.

"Well, alright, I didn't expect the young man to be such an expert." The employee smiled sheepishly, his eyes darting around, and quickly bent down to pack the middle chicken.

He thought the two young people didn't know anything and was about to sell the unwanted old hen when he was exposed.

Xiao Mingzhu put the packaged chicken into the shopping cart, and when he looked up, he saw Jiang Wanwan looking at him with an adoring expression, her eyes seemingly sparkling.

"Ah Xiao, how do you know so much?" She was completely taken aback by his knowledge and couldn't believe that Boss Xiao knew such down-to-earth things.

Xiao Mingzhu smiled but remained silent, though inwardly he scoffed at the idea.

Someone like him, who lives a life of constant danger, can tell a chicken's age and skeletal structure at a glance... In other words, he's even better at judging people than chickens.

A cold glint flashed in the man's eyes. He lowered his gaze and said calmly, "I don't know either. It just popped into my head automatically."

He hadn't forgotten that he was still "amnesiac," even though he had actually regained his memory last night.

Last night, he discovered some interesting things, so it wouldn't be bad to stay close to Jiang Wanwan for a while longer; there might even be some unexpected surprises.

Jiang Wanwan thought about it for a while, but still felt that something was wrong. She rolled her eyes.

Suddenly, a thought flashed through his mind, and he said to Xiao Mingzhu, "You...you wouldn't..."

Hearing Jiang Wanwan's suspicious tone, Xiao Mingzhu stiffened. "What's wrong?" He clenched his fingers tightly as he pushed the shopping cart.

Jiang Wanwan swallowed hard and asked incredulously, "You're not really a liar, are you?"

She recalled the scene when she asked the principal for information about Boss Xiao, and her doubts grew stronger.

There's no such thing as a "big boss Xiao," nor is there any ten million. He's probably just a conman who likes to show off, and his real identity might just be a small-time butcher...

Jiang Wanwan's gaze grew increasingly strange as she stared at the man, trying to find any clues on his face.

Xiao Mingzhu was so angry at Jiang Wanwan's words that he actually laughed. He had initially thought that she had finally become smart and realized that he had regained his memories.

"Heh." He chuckled coldly, not wanting to pay attention to the woman's nonsense.

Looking at the man's aloof back, Jiang Wanwan once again fell into self-doubt.

This person's demeanor doesn't seem like that of an ordinary person at all.

She stood there, conflicted for a while, her mind a jumbled mess.

"Forget it, whoever he is, it's none of my business sooner or later."

Anyway, once he regains his memory, I will definitely make him move out, and I will also settle accounts with him properly, listing all his expenses during this period and making him reimburse me!

Because it was Sunday, the supermarket was quite crowded, and the line to pay was very long.

There are two more people ahead of them, and Jiang Wanwan and the others will be there soon.

Then it suddenly occurred to her that they hadn't bought any corn. How could chicken soup be made without corn? It would be soulless!

So she hurriedly said to Xiao Mingzhu, "Xiao, go and get me some corn, I forgot."

Xiao Mingzhu stared at the woman for a few seconds, watching her blink and her determined look, and sighed inwardly.

In the end, she relented, turned around, left the vicinity of the checkout counter, and headed towards the vegetable section to find corn.

Time ticked by, and there was still one person left in line.

The sound of the product scanning reached Jiang Wanwan's ears, like a urging demonic voice, making her anxious and uneasy.

Suddenly, she remembered that her mother, Jiang, always did the same when she was a child, asking her to watch the cars while she rushed back to get something she had forgotten.

Jiang Wanwan was also tormented at the time, fearing that after the people in front of her finished paying, it would be her turn. She never expected that she would have to suffer this kind of torment when she grew up.

Jiang Wanwan kept turning her head to look, her longing expression successfully making Xiao Mingzhu, who had just arrived, laugh.

“I’m here.” He walked over from another entrance and put the corn into the shopping cart.

Just then, it was their turn to pay the bill. Seeing this, Jiang Wanwan finally breathed a sigh of relief and smiled sweetly at the man, "You came at just the right time."

After paying the bill, the two returned to their rented apartment.

Jiang Wanwan had originally said she would cook for herself tonight, but looking at the white chicken, her hand holding the knife trembled slightly.

She's fine with chopping vegetables, but she's a little scared when it comes to cutting raw meat.

After mentally preparing herself for a while, Jiang Wanwan finally called out to the man in the living room, "Ah Xiao—"

The clanging sound of chopping meat came from the kitchen. Jiang Wanwan sat on the sofa, eating snacks and watching TV happily.

When Jiang Wanwan went in, she found that the chicken pieces on the cutting board had been processed. Each piece was about the same size and arranged in the original structure. At first glance, it looked like a whole chicken.

Seeing Xiao Mingzhu's leisurely demeanor with a kitchen knife in his hand, Jiang Wanwan felt a chill run down her spine for no apparent reason, but soon she realized she was overthinking it.

"You still say you're not a butcher? How can you cut meat so skillfully?"

Jiang Wanwan crossed her arms and leaned against the kitchen door frame, joking with the man.

Xiao Mingzhu washed the kitchen knife and dried it, his movements unhurried and deliberate, exuding an untimely elegance.

"What's so difficult about that? If you want to learn, I'll teach you." A strange smile curved his lips as he looked at Jiang Wanwan.

Jiang Wanwan pouted and said in protest, "Let's forget it, I can't stand the feeling of being cut with a knife."

Xiao Mingzhu raised the corners of his eyes and opened and closed his lips as if he wanted to say "practice makes perfect," but in the end he chose to remain silent.
