After a fierce fight, Rong Ruo and An Yi captured all those who had been following them, leaving them with no chance of survival.
Because this trip out of the palace was specifically for them.
Upon returning to the East Palace, Rong Xi changed his clothes and went to the dungeon where the prisoners were held.
When Rongruo saw His Highness enter, he quickly moved a stool and placed it in front of the prisoner so that the Crown Prince could sit down.
"How's the interrogation going? What about those who sent the messages?"
Rong Ruo leaned close to his ear and said, "Your Highness, those people confessed after only a few blows, but they're still being stubborn."
Rong Xi nodded: "Bring those people in and keep fighting. Let these people watch them die little by little."
"yes."
After those people were brought in, the guards began to torture them, making them watch as those arrested that day went from pain to despair, then to resentment, and finally to death. They tormented them, body and soul, bit by bit, until they were willing to confess.
Finally, under inhuman torture, two groups confessed, both of whom turned out to be high-ranking officials in the imperial court. Why were they so concerned about what they were doing? Had they also heard some rumors?
There was still one prisoner who wouldn't confess, stubbornly refusing to admit anything, so Rong Xi had to resort to other methods.
"Dispose of all the others who confess. As for this one, just put him in the reservoir. Anyway, those little creatures in the reservoir haven't been fed for many days."
Upon hearing the word "reservoir," Rong Ruo couldn't help but shudder. That reservoir was no place for a human being; he felt a pang of sympathy for the prisoner.
The last prisoner, who didn't confess, had a "whatever" attitude. Rongruo quietly gave him a thumbs up.
Rong Xi returned to his room, took another shower, and changed into clean clothes.
"Didn't you find out who the messenger was with when you interrogated him?"
Rong Ruo nodded: "No, he just said that he puts the message in a secret compartment of the pawnshop every day, and someone will pick it up. When I asked the pawnshop owner, he said that the secret compartments in their pawnshop are rented out on a short-term basis, and the person changes every month. As for the owner of that secret compartment, he also said that he is just an ordinary person."
"Then continue the investigation and find everyone behind this, leave no one alive. Also, keep a close eye on the man at the reservoir; make sure he doesn't die."
Rong Xi simply couldn't believe that an ordinary person could have such power that they could bribe the people in his household.
"Yes, Master."
Rong Xi waved his hand, signaling him to leave.
It was late at night, and Rong Xi lay in bed, repeatedly thinking about the day's events. He'd spent most of the night searching, and although he'd arrested some people and gotten some information out of them, it was all rather insignificant. Moreover, Rong Xi felt that these weren't the same people from that night, and he wasn't entirely satisfied.
Let's see if the thing in the reservoir can give us a surprise in the next two days.
Lost in thought, Rong Xi fell asleep.
The next morning, Rong Xi had just woken up when Rong Ruo rushed in.
"Your Highness, the man at the reservoir couldn't take it last night and confessed in the early hours of the morning."
Rong Xi wiped his face: "Oh, what do you mean?"
Rong Ruo excitedly approached Rong Xi: "Your Highness, you already know the answer, don't you?"
Rong Xi glanced at him: "I know what I'm talking about, but what I need is evidence, how they bribed them, and whether there are any of their people left in the manor."
Rong Ruo chuckled: "Your Highness, that person only said that it was ordered by the Third Prince. As for the rest, he only said he didn't know. He was probably the one who relayed the message and carried out the operation. They are not the same kind of people. He was probably afraid of being wiped out in one fell swoop."
Rong Xi scoffed, "He's quite the schemer."
"Your Highness, should we tell the Emperor about this?"
Rong Xi shook his head: "No need. What good would it do to tell Father? It would only add to his troubles. The Third Prince just wants to know where I'm going and who I'm seeing. If he has other ideas, then we don't need to show him any mercy."
Rong Ruo thought about it and agreed. His Majesty probably wouldn't concern himself with such trivial matters. Besides, if His Highness couldn't even handle a third prince, how could he possibly achieve great things in the future?
"Your Highness, what should we do next?"
Rong Xi's thoughts shifted slightly, and he gently tapped his fingers on the table.
"Everything will remain the same. Fill the positions that need to be filled in the manor, but have the steward keep a close eye on the candidates. As for my whereabouts, only you and the secret guards will know from now on. If the news leaks, I will hold you accountable."
Rongruo is wronged. Your Highness, you are so heartless! Why did you dump this burden on me? Couldn't you have dumped it on someone else?
Rongruo is so troubled!
