Chapter 19: Lu Nanchen is a Very Competent Husband_1

On the side table, two tea cups were still placed, with soft steam still faintly visible.

"Dad, did someone come to our house just now?" Yu Ting tried to make conversation, asserting her presence.

"Mm, your brother came by just now. He left when he knew you were coming over," the father responded with a tiny grunt, his answer straightforward.

Yu Ting had two older brothers. One was her real brother, seven years elder. He was 27 this year. The novel hadn’t described him much - he seemed to work as a cop.

The other was their uncle’s son, who was 24.

She always used to bicker with him, as she was unruly and stubborn, refusing to listen to reason and would always oppose him. They never got along and found each other disagreeable.

All these embarrassing memories started to flood in.

Yu Ting: ...

Forget it, I’ll just eat my food.

...

The design of the Yu family house was three bedrooms and two living rooms, all with a Chinese stylistic design. While they were eating, Yu’s mother cheerfully proposed, "Since school’s still a few days away, it wouldn’t hurt to stay one night."

"Hahaha, that’s right, Nanchen, you stay here tonight and play chess with me."

Yu’s father also agreed to this proposal, his wide grin almost touching his temples.

Yu Ting, who was busy eating, instantly knew what her mother was up to from hearing these words.

She was already the least favored, and if the grandson came, she would be even more neglected due to the spoiling of the grandchildren.

She would have even less of a presence then!

"I still have a project to work on recently, the data and information are all on my computer at home, which I didn’t bring here." Lu Nanchen seriously considered Yu’s mother’s suggestion with undivided attention.

He felt the project was more important.

Both Yu’s father and mother exchanged a disappointed look, ready to persuade him.

Yu Ting quickly stopped her chopsticks, offered a smile and said, "That’s right, mom and dad, Nanchen has work to do. As his wife, I should support his career, let’s wait until he’s done with his work."

As she spoke, Yu Ting subconsciously hugged Lu Nanchen’s arm, leaning her head towards him slightly, her face adorned with a sincere and innocent smile.

This gesture left Lu Nanchen a little confused as he looked at her, smelling the feminine fragrance that filled his senses.

His wife in name seemed to have changed a lot from how she used to be.

Yu’s parents exchanged sharp glances.

Yu Ting continued to act innocent and smile.

"..."

"Alright then, Nanchen you focus on your work first." After a few minutes of standoff, Yu’s mother finally relented.

Lunch continued on.

About ten minutes later, they all sat and chatted for a while.

As before, the four of them sat on the sofa. Yu’s parents sat together, next to them Lu Nanchen, with Yu Ting on the outermost.

Yu’s parents centered their conversation around Lu Nanchen.

...

Seated beside them, their daughter Yu Ting rested her hands on her knees, her feet tapping on the wooden floor.

Her son-in-law was continuously being cared for and advised by her mother.

Yu Ting: ...

She felt like she and her husband were tied to Lu Nanchen as tools.

Lu Nanchen answered all the parents-in-laws’ questions throughout.

By the time it was around 4-5 PM, the parents-in-law finally agreed to let them leave.

They set off on their journey back to the city at around 4-5 PM, due to few delays on the way, by the time they reached home it was already past 7 PM.

Lu Nanchen stepped on the brake, bringing the car to a stop outside the villa.

The dim moonlight illuminated Lu Nanchen’s face, emphasizing his sharp features, his regal demeanor was hard to miss.

Although void of feelings, Lu Nanchen truly was a perfect and fit husband.
