Lu Nanchen hit the nail on the head with that statement, his eyes dark and piercing as he stares him down, walking towards him while waiting for a response.
Why did he come to this dismal, out-of-the-way place dressed so sharply?
Did the young lord come to survey the state of his subjects? 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"I came to oversee some construction work. It’s already getting late, I should head back," said the young man, trying to appear calm while his heart pounded in his chest at the sight of the apporaching Lu Nanchen.
The young man couldn’t withstand Lu Nanchen’s relentless advance. After stumbling back a couple of steps, he suddenly turned and bolted down the side road.
The young man’s action indicated guilt.
Lu Nanchen immediately gave chase. The wind lifted his hair from his face and whipped it back, altering his demeanor as he ran.
As he sprinted, the thorny bushes, shrubs, and branches lining the pathway at times grazed his bare feet. After a few minutes of running, his feet were streaked with superficial cuts.
The narrow pathway was now the running route of two grown men.
The young man was no match for Lu Nanchen’s speed and was soon caught from behind by his collar and halted.
Lu Nanchen gripped his collar tightly, exerting his strength to force the young man to meet his gaze. "Why run? What’s your purpose here, tell me the truth."
From the auction, to his visit to VG Company, and now this.
What was the real purpose?
"What other purpose could there be? Like I said, I’m here for some oversight work," the young man retorted, brows furrowed in apparent sincerity.
"If you’re just overseeing work, why run?" Lu Nanchen retorted skeptically, "You dress like that to supervise work? And your company only employs you?"
The young man choked on his words.

"When I saw you chasing me, I wanted to run," he finally admitted.
Lu Nanchen: ?
"Just come clean, don’t waste both our time," Lu Nanchen’s tone dropped further, indicating his disbelief of the young man’s half-hearted excuses.
The force of his grip intensified, causing the collar of the young man’s shirt to constrict around his neck.
The physically and emotionally overwhelmed young man: ...
"Okay fine, the reason I was here is actually..."
The young man held Lu Nanchen in a stalemate for several minutes before he finally began revealing the truth with a sigh of resignation.
As he started spilling the essential details, Lu Nanchen listened intently.
Just then, without warning, a sharp object hit Lu Nanchen on the back of his head, disabling his focus and slightly loosening his grip.
There were accomplices involved.
A small amount of blood could be felt on the spot that Lu Nanchen was struck when he touched it.
After throwing the stone, the accomplice quickly fled the scene, leaving the rest to the young man’s fate.
Seizing the opportunity, the young man broke free from Lu Nanchen’s grip and ran with all his might, as if his life depended on it.
Run faster, even faster.
The small hill was just ahead. Once he jumped down the other side, he would be safe.
With this in mind, the young man gathered all his strength and sprinted towards the hill, jumped off the small slope, and intended to escape through the mountain path.
However, he had clearly underestimated Lu Nanchen.
After shaking his head to clear his hazy vision, Lu Nanchen looked back and seeing no one, he darted forward, all the signs pointing to the boy’s deceit.
This was certainly fishy, with potentially serious implications even near his wife’s company.
Driven by this thought, Lu Nanchen ran even faster. The tree branches scraped his legs one after another. He followed the young man to the end of the side road, jumped down without hesitation, and within a few strides, was pulling the young man back in front of him with a forceful grip.
"Are you going to talk or not?"
