Yu Ting looked at the thick textbook in front of her and heaved a deep sigh. Both she and Lu Nanchen were mathematics teachers, but when Lu Nanchen substituted for her class, there wasn’t any mid-term exam. But now that it was her turn, there was.

Outraged, Yu Ting picked up a pen and started circling and highlighting on the page, beginning to take notes, her lips slightly moving as she recited the formulas and theorems to herself.
She was trying to familiarize herself with them.
She continued reading, completing the examples and their solutions, until she came to the exercise questions at the end.
Time to put theory into practice.
Yu Ting moved the textbook to one side and began to copy down the questions on the paper, before calculating the solutions in the empty space beneath.
Lu Nanchen sat quietly nearby, a book on the table before him synchronized with what Yu Ting was studying, along with a book given by Zuo Fugui.

The books given by Zuo Fugui were of various kinds, but romantic novels were the majority.
He believed these books were more useful than theoretical knowledge.
The corner of the novel’s cover was creased, showing that Lu Nanchen had flipped through it a few days ago.
Lu Nanchen sat beside her, tilting his head slightly to clearly see what Yu Ting was writing on the paper.
The woman’s fragrant hair was not far from him. Her handwriting was stiff, revealing she hadn’t written for days. She was now looking at the questions on her paper, her expression even more pained than when he had seen her discussing investments with someone at home a few days ago.
After pondering for a while, Yu Ting began to move, calculating row by row on the paper with a serious expression.
Looking at the woman’s beautiful and perfect side profile, Lu Nanchen felt a sense of satisfaction swelling in his heart. His probing gaze moved from her face to the paper next to her.
He had stepped into a whole new world.
How did the conclusion of this first step lead to the second step...
The formula was wrong.

Yu Ting, in her audacious manner, went ahead to change several formulas and three theorems without showing any signs of panic.

Picking up the pen from the table beside him, Lu Nanchen gently knocked on the side of Yu Ting’s head with the end of the pen cap and said in a somewhat helpless tone, "If you can’t remember certain things, just flip through the book more often."
Next, he unscrewed the pen cap, pulled a piece of paper from the table beside him to his front, rapidly revolved his fingers around the pen, adjusted the direction of the nib, and made a few quick strokes.
"You’ve used the wrong formula. It should be like this. Let me write it down for you."
Resting his elbow on the table, Lu Nanchen held the pen, moving back and forth between the two pieces of paper, circling the parts where Yu Ting went wrong on her paper, and re-writing the correct formulas on his.
The man was very close to Yu Ting, his clothes carrying the fresh scent of laundry. It encircled her.
Lu Nanchen’s face wore an intense expression, a stark contrast to the clean sheet of paper.
Yu Ting glanced at him a few times, allowing him to guide her as he carefully wrote out the formulas on the paper.
"This question is similar to the example above. You can apply that method here," said Lu Nanchen as he smoothly calculated on the paper.
Worried that Yu Ting might not understand a certain step, Lu Nanchen wrote each step meticulously.
The problem that troubled Yu Ting for five or six minutes was quickly resolved by Lu Nanchen, his handwriting strong and vigorous as he wrote down the correct solution.
"Of course, there are several ways to solve this question as well..."
Having said that, it was only then that Lu Nanchen took his eyes off the question and turned to look at the person sitting very close to him.
He then concluded in a serious tone, "I don’t demand much from you. You just need to know how to apply one method."
