"Don’t be scared to go alone. When you get in there, just answer whatever the doctor asks you. If it’s your first time at the gynecologist, don’t be shy. You need to allow the doctor to examine you properly so they can diagnose you accurately."
The almost-30-year-old woman advised Yu Ting based on her own experiences, giving her some simple pointers.
"If you’re still not reassured after listening to the doctor, you can have an ultrasound done."
"Mmhm."
Yu Ting replied with a smile, acknowledging the woman’s good intentions, "I was actually planning to follow the doctor’s advice and then have an ultrasound done."
"Mmhm."
"It’s been five months into your pregnancy, right?" she asked, noticing the woman’s quite large belly.
Yu Ting was curious. She had no knowledge in this area. In her past life, she had never had a boyfriend, let alone been pregnant. She was completely clueless.
The woman laughed before answering, "No, I’m just over three months pregnant. Does it look that big? I guess this baby must be a girl. When you’re pregnant with a girl, you tend to show more, while with boys - not so much, you hardly notice."
The woman’s face was beaming with happiness, and she was leaning her hand tenderly on her husband’s arm.
They were a loving couple.
"That sounds wonderful. Okay, got it."
Yu Ting replied with a smile, continuing to wait in line.
The old saying goes that you wait for two hours in line for a five-minute consultation. The queue was visibly getting smaller at a rapid pace. Soon, it was Yu Ting’s turn. Once the person in front of her came out of the room, Yu Ting went in.
As soon as she stepped through the door, she took off her sunglasses and masks.
Yu Ting sat down on the bench.
The female doctor inside asked, "What seems to be the problem?"
"I’ve been feeling drowsy lately, and I don’t have much of an appetite. Even when I have porridge, I can only eat a little. Some smells make me feel nauseous."
Yu Ting explained all her recent symptoms to the doctor.
The doctor continued to ask, "When was your last period?"
"About a month and a half ago."
Yu Ting answered truthfully. Because her period wasn’t that late, she initially thought it was just a delay. But now it seemed, she might really be pregnant...
"You’re probably pregnant. Have an ultrasound done and bring the results back to me."
The doctor said as she handed Yu Ting an ultrasound sheet.
After acknowledging with a nod, Yu Ting left the clinic with the ultrasound sheet and headed to the ultrasound room.
On her way, she called Lu Nanchen.
The call was quickly answered. Lu Nanchen had recently been worried about Yu Ting’s unusual behavior and thus he picked up her call immediately.
Yu Ting cut straight to the chase, "Hello? Nanchen, I’m at the hospital."
"What happened? Are you feeling unwell? Where are you? I’m coming over."
"Don’t worry, it’s nothing serious."
"It seems I might be pregnant..."
Yu Ting’s words left Lu Nanchen on the other end of the phone speechless for a long time.
"Is it real? What did the doctor say? Which hospital are you in? Which floor? The gynecology department?"
"At The First People’s Hospital. That’s it, I need to go now, they’re calling me in for the ultrasound." With that, Yu Ting quickly ended the call as the ultrasound technician called out the number 36, which was hers.
The whole process took about five to six minutes. After it was done, Yu Ting returned to the doctor with the ultrasound image.
